    Default Iberian Assault Infantry

I had used to think that Iberian Assault Infantry were a unit from an ancient build as I had never been able to recruit them from Africa where I have my barracks. I found out that they are only recruitable in Iberia this has made myself think about something. In Iberia and other places where Carthage had taken control of outside of Africa they did not import Libyan soldiers to live there (to my knowledge), but Libyans who were native to Africa are recruitable in places as far away as Baktria so long as you have cultural influence. This is furthered in PoR where Libyans are a class of people in the Carthaginian society. That has given myself theiIdea of having Libyan units like Libyan Infantry and Libyan Hoplites Africa like how Iberian Infantry is only recruitable in Iberia. This leaves the issue of Carthage not having good mid-low tier Libyan units empire wide, this could be solved by having versions of them with the same purpose of giving mainline units to areas that would be realistic for Carthage to have taken such as South Gaul, Italy, Greece, Egypt, and other areas of the Mediterranean. "what about the areas that Carthage already conquered IRL such as Sicily and Sardinia-Corsica" you may ask. Then we already have good info as to what the people that Carthage recruited were like and would be easier to make the regional unique. Of course Carthaginian units would still be available empire wide. "What about areas that like Germany or Baktria that are very far away" May also be asked, this is indeed a very good question, I think that it would have to be Carthaginians either using their citizens in their army again or it may not be necessary as at that point in the game you already get a discount to mercenaries to be not that bad.

This is less on topic and is a question, are Campanian Cavalry intended to be in 1.1 or 1.2 or were they forgotten?

As far as I know, the Carthaginians actually decreased the number of levied lybians in favour of mercenaries even before the start of the game, due to several lost battles against Agrigent on Sicily.
Thatīs also the time when they started recruiting greek mercenaries, as at that time hoplites still defeated everything thrown in front of them.
It also might have been the reason they adopted the phalanx for themselves, but I donīt actually know if there is enough proof of them ever doing so.

    It certainly fits Iīd say^^

In between the first two punic wars, Carthage actually stopped levying Lybians competely, due to the threat a numerically superior and battle hardened subject people posed.
Instead, they started taxing and recruiting them as mercenaries.
These would have been the Lybians Hannibal took with him to Italy, so we know they were superbly trained.

I think for Carthage to function properly, the mercenary system would need an overhaul.
Or maybe they could use their own version of the AoR auxilliary recruitment as the romans do?

    Anyways, best regards

My idea is that provinces with empty merc pool should somehow attract mercenaries from at least neighbouring provinces. Like companies are flocking to places with the highest demand, where they can easily find employer. That's just a fantasy, but you never know what's possible via scripts.

Well we donīt actually know how they recruited their mercenaries exactly, but I think they just recruited whoever was available.
So IMO the fact that they mainly recruiting Spaniards and Celts as mercenaries coincides with the spatial proximity of their holdings.

Anyway, itīs you guys doing the work, so Iīll shut up now^^

Mercenaries are in the startpos. Faction mercenaries are found under the faction entry, province mercenaries are under individual province arrays.

You can simply clone an entry in the province mercenary pool and change the unit name.
