Default COnfused on area of recruitment

Let me start with saying I've never been a fan of it. BUt nevertheless I have to work with it.

I conquered Belgium and the region directly to its right. Germania Minor(the region) is there I built a recruitment area. ONline pictures shows it shares the recruitment with Germany and Gaul. I built a lv 3 city, lv 2 barracks, lv 3 auxiliary barracks.

I can recruit the sarmatian cataphracts, but I can't recruit the belgae heavy cavalry?

Went online, searched a bit more and now I am confused.

First the royal academy website says it needs lv 4 cities, yet the picture that shows areas of recruitment says region E is available at all reforms with tier 3. Tier 3 what I do not know, the royal academy sometimes says the requirement is a lv X auxiliary barracks, sometimes it says is the city that needs to be upgraded. So, I upgraded both, but I still can't recruit them.

Originally I just recruit legionary cavalry because is not a headache trying to get them. Wanted to for the first time to enjoy the area of recruitment, but I just can't seem to get it right.

    Any help would be appreciated.

The honga site is VERY out of date. It might have been adjusted. You can get the belgian cav in belgum, however.

I went from a picture here in the forums. That shows germania minor can be a recruitment zone for both gaul and germany. Didn't want to make two recruitment centers right next to one another. Seemed a waste but I guess I'll just give up on the area of recruitment. Nice idea but just overly complicated.

Still wished it was "conquer region", "unit available for recruitment now...anywhere"

    Thanks for your reply.

    Cheers

That image is probably out of date, but its for auxiliary not AOR troops. Before Marian, Rome's Auxiliary troops are pulled from AOR versions of surrounding regions. After Marian, there are a huge number of custom ones.

All pre-Marian auxiliary are recruited from tier 2 barracks. Marian is recruited from tier 3. Imperial is recruited from tier 4. These buildings are all reform locked.

The image is out of date then. On New Carthage, or Carthago Nova (RTW 1 name though) I built lv 3 auxilia barracks, lv 3 city and I can't recruit North Iberian cavalry. I can recruit some lusitanian cavalry that have the heavy cavalry icon but are actually missile cavalry. Not sure why they have the very heavy cavalry icon (square).

I'll just stick with legionary cavalry and normal legions. As I said, the system is a great idea but...yeah. Thank you so much for your replies.

    Cheers.

Eh, you are cheating yourself of a lot of variety. Africa doesn't have a lot of good options, but try thrace or greece or germania or syria. You will see a lot of interesting units.

Yes, I know I am. Thank you for your reply. I tried getting into it because I like the AOR for the letters.

Gaul, has one, Iberia has one. But the broken down numbers just feels like I have to build barracks everywhere to take advantage of it.

I'd much rather it be on single building that trains the necessary troops.

In the end, yes I am loosing out of variety but I just feel is overly complicated.
Again, thank you for your reply.

Its really not. I usually make 3-4 regional military centers. For example spain, gaul, thrace, sicily. Spain gives me baelaric slingers and those medium infantry (fast movement, good armor), gaul has the best medium cavs in the game and decent infantry, thrace has horsearchers, skirmishers, and high offense units, sicily gives javcav, crossbows, cretean archers.

All you have to do is build one building. Take a look at my saved games for some examples and see if you like the auxillia:

As requested, here is Rome off to a good start. Yet instead of going after Carthage, I was led into a long war against the greeks that resulted in the subjugation of greece, thrace, and so on. The new look roman army is sporting skirmishers, horsebows, and slingers to compliment your peerless legions. Even on VH, I doubt any army can withstand you.
