I would start with the basic game and see if that works. I've seen some of his videos, and they definitely look like they are played on the original game (version 3.2 probably).

Moved thread from Hotseat section to here.

If they play with submods, experienced Let's Players as a rule say so (to avoid the questions that always arise hehe).
AFAIK it is vanilla TATW 3.2 that Apollo plays. It's not DaC for sure, and I'm confident it's not MOS either.

It allwo you to connect to other players so you may play multiplayer battles, though it requires that you communicate and set up the game so that you may battle eachother, a.k.a no server where you may just host/join a battle with a stranger.
Perhaps Steam changed something recently, but that's the only way I know of for teh last couple of years.

Blackforge's post inspired me to try online battles myself. After downloading and installing the Steam version of the game (I had the old Sega CD version), I copied and pasted the Third_Age_3 folder into the Medieval 2 mods folder in the Steam install. Then, per instructions found via google, I renamed the Third_Age_3 folder as "teutonic" and changed the teutonic folder to something else. Then go to Steam and start the Teutonic Kingdoms campaign, and TATW will come up.

Maybe because it was a Sunday evening, there were at least 2 or 3 TATW games setting up at any given time. The battles were quite epic, though one puttered out due to bad connection. I gather that most people use the teutonic campaign as the base for Third Age, so everyone is doing the same thing.

    Also:
You have TATW 3.0 + the patch 3.2 with no submods (assuming the host do not use submods)?

    Other suggestion:
You have Medieval 2 patched up to 1.05; or that the host still have 1.04 while you have 1.05?
Different versions of M2 may be the issue, to have teh same it is key to be able to play hotseats at least.

I think the patch is the issue, thank you for the help.

I'll have to find a player and see if we can create a game together or something. I just logged on, and still saw incompatible for a Third Age game. Very odd, not sure if its my version of Medieval 2 as people have stated the v.105

Vanilla is your best bet, as has been said in this thread. The online Third Age battles on my channel are also done on nilla 3.2 since that's what everyone has access to and has played at one point or another.
