Default How to reskin a existing model??

    Hi everyone,

I've just reskinned a model of the brutii, saved it, compressed to dxt 5, allowed mipmaps and didn't check the swith red and alpha option. Now a have the file, a tga.dds file, but what do I have to do to replace the original model???

You have to edit the descr_model_battle.txt file in the RTW/Data folder. Go to the model entry you made the new skin for (letīs say the principes as an example), then look for the line with the bruti texture entry (texture romans_brutii, data/models_unit/textures/principes.TGA) and replace the bold part of that line with the name of the texture youīve made. Note that, unless you have unpacked and deleted the .pak files which contain the textures, you have to use a different name (i.e. if you just, for example downloaded a principes texture, and its name still is the normal one, the new texture wonīt show up!).

    Thank you, Ciaran S

But i've used vercingetorix's pak extractor, and now I don't have a textures map in the data\models_unit\ map, only in the data\packs\DATA\models_unit\ map? Do I have to put that textures map back into the original folder??

Yes, the textures you want to add have to be in the models_unit\textures folder. Or maybe not ( I donīt know, I donīt make experiments that are pointless - itīs just default that textures go there. It works for many a mod, and I like things to work, so I do them in the way I know that they work) but then you have to change the texture path to where the engine can actually find it. So, putting them into the texture folder as per default is the simplest solution.

Tip; when you open Descr_model_battle, press ctrl-f and a search box will come up, type in the name of the unit your looking for and it will jump to that unit.
