    MOS v1.6.2-1a.rar Mega

    MOS v1.6.2-1b.rar Mega

Links for the bugfixer files. This is a one file download that allows you to install
all 3 bugfixer files in one go. Installer provided by Mike Golf

MediaFire link for MOS bugfixer package (3 in 1 installer)

MOS 1.6.2 is a full install and for those who use a non Steam version it should be installed as follows:

    1. Download the exe and the two bin files to your desktop or other known location on your system.
    2. Run the EXE file (MOS v1.6.2.exe) You do not have to perform any actions on the other two files.
    3. Follow the prompts provided in the installer

Make sure that you install MOS 1.62 in the SEGA folder

(as shown in the default path). If you renamed the SEGA folder then use the one you renamed it to. MOS 1.62 must not be installed in the Third_Age_3 folder, nor in the Medieval II Total War folder.
    4. Install the three Bug Fixer files. The easiest method is to use the "All In One installer" created by Mike Golf (See the "DOWNLOAD LINKS FOR MOS 1.62 FILES" section)
If you want to install the files separately and don't know how to do that, look
    HERE
    for instructions.
    5. Finally be sure to run the "Cleaner.bat" file located in your installation folder before attempting to run the mod.
    6. Optional: Download the shortcut file if MOS has not been previously installed or if you wish to use the latest shortcut.
If MOS is not installed in the default file folder you will have to edit the shortcut and the Third_Age_3 bat files as well as the TATW.cfg file to show the correct path.

Those who use a Steam version and those for whom the above instructions didn't result in a successful install, should consult the guide provided by Elvenkind.
It has instructions for installing MOS 1.62 for Steam as well as non Steam users.

INSTALLATION THREAD WITH PICTURES BY ELVENKIND
Just remember to finish with installing the bugfixer files and running the "Cleaner.bat" one more time

    * These two mods are not compatible, they must not be installed both at the same time.

    Battle crashes in MOS

For battle crashes in MOS, you can try this:

    1. Disable daylight saving settings, if you have Windows 7, 8 or Vista, go to Control Panel, Clock, Date and Time, Change the settings for date and time, Change time zone, uncheck "Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Savings time".

If you have Windows XP, simply double click the “clock” time display in the lower right of the windows task bar. In the “Date and Time Properties” dialog box click on the “Time Zone” tab. Below the map uncheck the box labeled “Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving time.”

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Before playing:

    - It is recommended to use the cleaner.bat before playing.
    - If you want custom battle heroes, you should use the CG-launcher to make this available or to turn it off.
    - If you want to use the "Arnor from the start" function for Eriador properly, use the FAR launcher.

    Known Bugs

    Known Bugs
    - Fellowship campaign is not playable with MOS.
    - When playing a (custom) battle where Ents, Wolves or Spiders are present, the game may crash. The cause of this is not known
For more information on this, visit this THREAD

    - Slow turn times
Move/reinstall your whole Medieval II TW folder (plus your mods) anywhere else on your PC.
Just make sure it is outside of your Program Files or Program Files(x86) folder

    - Advisor can't be activated.
Somebody reported that the advisor appears when you double click a settlement and then click the "locate position of settlement" button. I tried this myself and the advisor indeed popped up. You should not however click the "show me how" button when the settlement is still selected as for some mysterious reason this triggers a battle for this settlement, regardless if it is being besieged or not.

    Default Installation and Download

    .
Before installing MOS, make sure you have a working, clean install of TATW ready. If necessary, you can download the TATW installer files HERE

InstallationThis is one of Gigantus' 'click through' installations, it comes in two parts due to the file size restriction of the installer application.

    • Run one installer at a time, start with 'part 1 of 2'
    • As long as your registry is fine the installer will find the correct installation path. If not, simply follow the instruction displayed in the installer.
    • Some files of the TATW 3.2 installation are read-only for unknown reasons and will cause a warning to be displayed, simply click 'Yes' and proceed.

    • At the end of each installation a file verification will take place, allow it to finish, check for error messages (see picture in spoiler), close it and finalize the installation.
    • Steam users: no need to do anything extra - simply start the mod with it's desktop shortcut once you have run both installers.
    • If MOS 1.7 doesn't start as expected, try this FIX first.

    Spoiler for verification picture

    DownloadTorrent Download - click here
This download contains both parts. The original files are hosted by myself and the torrent file is hosted here at TWC, making it a totally safe download.

    MOS_Creatures_Fix:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Dear MOS 1.7 players,

After some intensive work, Im happy to announce that a MOS_Creatures_Fix patch is now available.

This fix should dramatically reduce, if not totally eliminate the crashes that a lot of people experience when the following units are present in a battle:
Ents, Wolves, Spiders, The Balrog, Sauron.

Some other fixes have been implemented also, you can have look at it all by clicking on the link in the last line of this post. Although that is the description of what is in the original TATW creatures fix, much of it will probably work for MOS too. I can already state while doing some testing for this fix in custom battle, I got a single Sauron unit instead of three Saurons as it used to be. I think it was like that, it's been years since I last saw Sauron(s) in MOS. The same goes for the Balrog, from what I noticed during a few test battles that too seems to have turned into a single unit.

    Install instructions:

    1) Download the patch from this LINK. Alternatively, you can download it from MEGA HERE.
    2) Optional: Make a backup of the 'Animations' folder and 'descr_mount.txt' file. They are both located in the 'Data' folder. If something goes wrong overwrite the folders with the backup ones.
    3) Unzip the patch file in your main MOS folder, accept overwrite files when asked. If you are not asked to overwrite files, you have unzipped the patch in the wrong folder.
    4) Start the mod, play with some creatures. It should not be necessary to run the 'Cleaner.bat' file, but it shouldn't do any harm either.

    Credits:

Louis Lux : for his instructions on how to get this done and his invaluable assistance in solving the unexpected problems that manifested themselves during the making of this fix.
Veteraan : for testing the fix and making the the actual patch file (a rather minor job).
This fix would not have been possible without the work and assistance from Jojo00182 and the rest of the Call of Warhammer: Beginning of the end of times team

This fix is based on the earlier work done HERE

The MOS_Creatures_Fix is most likely not save game compatible. If you want to finish a current campaign, you should wait with applying the patch until that campaign is concluded.

Third Age and MoS were installed over a fresh install of Medieval II Kingdoms, and the Cleaner.bat don't seem to find any old junk to clean away. The installation destination is the steam/steamapp/common/Medieval II one. I chose "move and overwrite" for all conflicts when transfering MoS files to the Third Age folder. Do I miss something obvious, or are run files from the core game itself missing? The Medieval II folder is almost empty, apart from mods, uninstall.exe and a data folder with models_missiles. Could the Third Age installer somehow have deleted the core game files?

Whether or not TA/MoS has anything to do with it or not, my reinstallation of Medieval II Kingdoms on steam yield no different result for its folder... How very odd. Never seen that before. Anyone else who encountered this problem?
Don't know what's wrong exactly. The MOS install files need to be extracted in the parent folder of the "Third_Age_3" folder, usually that is the "mods" folder. Another way is to extract the files somewhere else and copy the content form the Third_Age_3 folder. It then can be pasted into the TATW "Third_Age_3" folder.

The patch is a separate file from the MOS install files.

I'm am soooooo tired of fighting stack, after stack, after stack, after stack, after stack, after stack, after stack, of Mordor/Harad/Rune armies. Is there a way to make them similar to the good factions as far as growth-rate, economy ect..?

Just once I'd like to see at least Mordor, and Harad out of the picture, and maybe some in-fighting between good factions without having to wait till turn 900...and the grind that is defeating these races.

Also, would like to know how to remove the size/growth restrictions of ALL cities.

    Thank you!

Default Re: MOS, the ultimate TATW experience. Updated OP and submod links added: 2015-April-15th

There are muliple ways you can change the balance. Can give some general tips, while I may not give MOS examples (mine will be from DCI).
    Notes:
    - Backup files before editing them.
    - Always use Notepad++ to edit, it is a freeware and otherwise MOS will likely crash. https://notepad-plus-plus.org/
    - Aaaaaaaalways backup files before editing them.
    - Mordor = england, and Harad = spain.
    - Did I tell you to back up?

So, then we can get going!

You can lower the Kings Purse for factions, in descr_strat.txt in .../data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign
    Example:
    Code:
    ;#################################################################
    ;########################## MORDOR ############################# 15600
    ;#################################################################
    faction england, balanced smith
    ai_label evil
    denari 12000
    denari_kings_purse 2000
This will decrease the extra income they get every turn. if this is a large sum, it may be very effective to decrease the faction's power, perhaps all you need to do to see an effect.
2000 as in DCI is a low number because our game makes economy hard and avoid stack spams almost alltogether, while TATW which is a bit medium have 4200. What is in MOS I do not know, nor what may be a good number.

In campaign_script.txt, same folder, there are some changes you may do to money scripts and likewise, but I would not mess with that (especially in MOS that is the Byzantium of scripts, haha) unless other solutions seriously fail.
Instead, a usually very effective way is to increase the costs of units, while you decrease the speed by which new units become avilable.

In the data-folder you have export_descr_unit.txt (often called EDU).
The units are sorted by faction, and each have a line for cost. Ex:
    Code:
    (...)
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 664, 266, 300, 275, 664, 2, 450
    armour_ug_levels 3, 4
    armour_ug_models rhun_elite, rhun_elite_upg
    (...)
These are the numbers in the example:
Number of turns to build = 1. Cost of unit to construct = 664 gold. Cost of upkeep = 266 gold.
The following numbers are of little importance, but if you care to, the first three are for: Cost of upgrading weapons, Cost of upgrading armour and Cost for custom battles.
The first number is generally not meaningful to edit, then it's better to solve that in the buildings...

In export_descr_buildings.txt you find the recruitment entries for the units.
Here you see and can edit replenishment (how many turns it takes before a new unit becomes avilable, after you recruited one and/or the pool is no longer filled), and see and edit the pool (how many units may be stacked if they are not recruited):
    Code:
    recruit_pool "Orc Band" 1 0.11 2 0 requires factions { england, } and region_religion catholic 33 and hidden_resource mountains
The replenishment operates between 0.00 to 1.0 normally, where 1.0 = a new unit every turn.
In the example 0.11 = a new unit every 9,09 turn; as you can calulate by simply divide 1 with 0.11.
If I want to se less Orc Bands in DCI, I can decrease 0.11, say 0.05, and they will only be half as common.
Combined with increased cost this should be the most effective way to prevent spamming (you can' spam if you have less money and no units to recruit!), but it will be a big job. As a rule, every unit have two to three entries, for different kind of terrain.
Example, the poor Snaga Skirmishers from OotMM:
    Code:
                    recruit_pool "Snaga Skirmishers" 1 0.16 2 0 requires factions { hre, } and region_religion catholic 25 and hidden_resource mountains
                    recruit_pool "Snaga Skirmishers" 1 0.13 1 0 requires factions { hre, } and region_religion catholic 25 and hidden_resource grasland
                    recruit_pool "Snaga Skirmishers" 1 0.10 1 0 requires factions { hre, } and region_religion catholic 25 and hidden_resource forest or hidden_resource desert
However this is only for the first level of barrack in city settlements! There are four more barrack buildings, each with another three entries for the Snaga Skirmishers! 3 x 5 = 15 entries for a single unit.
And still, that is only for cities, there are four other barrack buildings for castles! So you may edit 27 numbers for the skirmishers alone.
Then there are all other infantry units in the barracks. And wargs in the stables, and archers in the missile buildings. And trolls in the troll building. And siege units in the siege buildings. You do not have to edit more units than you want to, but you do have great freedom to tweak the game here to fit your taste, at any level of settlement.
Yes it takes time (as game balance is a topic I myself is devoted to; players rarely know the mountains modders climb to make the games they play haha), but the balance is AO for a fun experience, so it will be worth it. And it is fun to see effects of your work in camapaigns; you can make a minimod of it and share with others as well.

Perhaps you want to increase the attack and defences of the units, if you are making them more costly and rare? Here's a tutorial to the EDU:
    http://medieval2.heavengames.com/m2t...de/index.shtml

Concerning upgrading settlements, that's likely handled through 'hidden resources' (or HR in short; HRs mena they have no model on the map) in descr_regions.txt, which you find in .../data/world/maps/base
A region look like this. In TATW settlements that can become bigger have this HR, on the resource-line:
    Code:
    Lossarnach_Province
        Lossarnach
        sicily
        Bandit_Rebels
        110 120 130
        forest, roads, big_city, towers, gondor_core
        5

MOS presumably have more HRs, hopefully named in a sensible manner. Add the HR or HRs to all regions, save and then delete map.rwm (same folder) for the change to apply to new campaigns.
Won't recommend it though, as I am very sure the balance will blow up in your face when you get cities and castles everywhere, spitting cash and troops.

    Good luck!

Wee! My little Gondor "Marka" barded horses submod is one of the recommended submods for MOS!

(Check the same link in the signature of my post, too).

Come on, guys, let's get thread #3 over a million views this time.

Eh. If a settlement really, really bugs me and its growth isn't to my liking, like the incredibly slow growth rate of East or West Osgiliath inhibiting the rebuilding of it to the restored model (i.e. upgrade from fortress to citadel and large city to huge city), then I just "add_population" using the "~" shell command. I wouldn't recommend cheating at all, though, in any way shape or form. It's a nasty habit. But come on! Bounds of reason! If it's like turn 300 and Osgiliath is still a ruin and it's been besieged like 20 times by Mordor, it gets old pretty quick. Gotta spice things up.

    Thank you, Ngugi and Roma_Victrix!

I usually spend the first week of any campaign that I intend to run, adjusting MANY of the EDU costs and EDB lines. So, I am familiar with the monumental task ahead.

I probably will not blanket all cities/towns with the unlimited growth potential, as that would give the AI even more to work with. However, I would like to tweak the faction that I'm playing to avoid the slow growth nightmare.

The only drawback to this task is that I may be so tired of looking and testing, that I don't want too look at the game for another 10 years, by the time I'm finished.

    *This may be a bit off topic;

Do you know if anybody has removed (modded), the merchant/products requirement from the vanilla MTW game? (Like TATW/MOS has.) I find this one of the BEST improvements of the game as the Merchant fights were sooo annoying. I find myself longing to play the vanilla game, but that aspect...along with assassins, (which I can remove from TATW), take so much of the FUN out of the game, I cannot bring myself to try...although I have attempted it at times.

Got a weird bug after doing clean install for new Aprils patch.

Got everything disabled as usual etc etc etc etc done this stuff dozens of times.

Log into game straight after clean install and culture strings are bugged.

Proly just something in the 1.7 patch from April 15?

Not a big deal since most of us know this stuff like priest knows bible but still, looking at it hurts my eyes.

Well, the patch is new, but the content of it isn't. I simply combined patch 01-04 and patch 05 into one patch the MOS 1.7 all inclusive patch. I will add a remark to the Install instructions that this is the case though.

As for your weird bug, it is known and not MOS specific. Luckily one of our esteemed modding colleagues has posted a solution to this in the previous MOS thread once:

    1. Cut 'localized.pak' out of medieval II total war/packs and drop it on the desktop or something.
    2. Then try to play the game - it'll crash but generate the .bin files correctly in the process.
    3. Then paste localized.pak back in it's correct folder and start up the game again. The game will play again and all the description errors are fixed.
Using the cleaner WILL un-do this. If you use the cleaner you will have to re-do this every time.
Remember what is said about the cleaner. Good luck!

Hi all! I got a couple of problems/questions with my TATW MOS
    1. The "Immortal heroes" script don't seem to work on Haldir
    2. When battling on or outside Helms Deep I can't play with reinforcements on either side because they will spawn up in the mountain and are stuck there. (If enemy attacks with 2 armies I can't win because I can't reach the second army)
    3. How do you get to recruit ents? I got Fangorn area but the villages don't uppgrade and don't seem to find out how to get the ents.
Do any of you know the answers of these questions or a way to fix it?

I think I can answer #3 Once you own the fangorn towns (there are two I think), you must give them autonomy. (I believe they will ask for it eventually), then ever so often they will lend you some Ent troops. They do not stay forever if I remember correctly, and I think its rather random when they will offer them too you. So...theres that.

Well, I did it...and it worked. Mordor is out of the picture by turn 40-50. Unfortunately this means that Gondor is the NEW Mordor, and if I attack any friendlies, I'm going to be fighting the whole of Middle-earth.

I may do it anyway just for kicks. I weakened Harad too. I'm thinking I should have left them alone, or given them or their units some sort of boost, to help keep Gondor in check.

    Haha!
Oh, my poor Denethor, power corrupts
Denethor was tainted with mere politics: hence his failure, and his mistrust of Faramir. It had become for him a prime motive to preserve the polity of Gondor, as it was, against another potentate, who had made himself stronger and was to be feared and opposed for that reason rather than because he was ruthless and wicked. Denethor despised lesser men, and one may be sure did not distinguish between orcs and the allies of Mordor.
If he had survived as victor, even without use of the Ring, he would have taken a long stride towards becoming himself a tyrant, and the terms and treatment he accorded to the deluded peoples of east and south would have been cruel and vengeful. He had become a 'political' leader: sc. Gondor against the rest.

1: was technically not a question but a bug report.
Until Hero of the West return, MOS has no scripter avilable to solve it; and it can not be solved in campaigns that already started anyhow.

2: Turn on time limits when battle at Helm's Deep is afoot then.
The map it's not supposed to be accessable from more than one side, due to the geography of the place, and therefore is not constructed to handle more than one attacker. I'm surprised the DaC map (that MOS uses) allow reinforcment armies; at any rate, MOS has no mapper avilable.

Really cool mod. I am having an issue though. Its taking the AI around 30-45 sec to complete their turn. Any fix for this?

this is due the many scripts MOS uses and due the fact that MTW2 can use only one core
    try this
    run the task manger
IMPORTANT then check if there twice if is anything related to steam running if yes close all steam things running in the task manger
then move the steam folder out of program files or program files [x86]
NOTE that this does not for all people sadly
if you use a disc version try this
move the stega folder out of program files or program files [x86]
