Cumans were conquered and dispersed by the early 13th century with a small exception of a group that invaded Hungary and assimilated afterwards. Although Cumans were very able to keep their culture intact, it would probably be the next faction in it's part of the world to access gunpowder weapons after the Mongol Invasion. Although I would strongly recommend only gaining access to as a last researchable technology in tier 2 before moving on to tier 3 similar to the Latin Empire case.
