    Default Reducing Political Influence

Hi, I've been having a bit of trouble with political influence as the Julii - I've managed to stray into the 50s% and I'm finding it quite difficult to reduce it - definitely don't want it going higher! Any recommendations? Thanks!

I'm no expert, but some of the basics involve using other family generals to win battles/capture cities and leave "your family" out of it until their influence is reduced. Watch out especially for family members with high gravitas and ambition -- you'll want to keep them out of current events (weather its better to be stationed as patrol garrisons or out of the field completely, I'm not sure).

I haven't seen many ancillaries in DeI, but the original TTT mod had plenty of negative groupies and/or items you could assign to your generals to bring down their influence (or gravitas).

You can also choose poorly during events that might hurt your influence, as well as allow adoptions that you would otherwise never go for. In my recent game one was going to cost me my entire treasury, so hell with it, I gave the son up and lost a ton of influence with the Suebian council (who really cares, the system is so flawed to begin with, calling this a game feature by CA in the first place was a joke).

Replace generals of your family with a couple more from theirs, unless you're still within your army limit in which case just recruit more from thier side.

Two ancillaries you can give these new buffer characters right out the gate usually is the Aged Retainer I think and also the Noble Steed. Both ramp up gravitas pretty quickly. Stick em in an army or in a city it doesn't much matter. Within about I think 20-25 turns even without battles, and with the right character traits selected when your generals level up, you should be well on your way to balancing the scales.

The 50s% are a good place to be. Staying there should be okay. Also, it'll be harder to change the political situation the longer the campaign goes - the political system doesn't work very well. There's an explanation for it that I can't quite remember... something about influence being generated by gravitas-per-turn; total gravitas doesn't matter.

I noticed that spreading a lot of rumours about political opponents kills your influence along with their gravitas. I have no idea why, but it does.

You can have your family memeber assassinated, cheap and reduces influence like crazy.

Spread rumors on the lowest gravitas enemy statesman

Yep, spreading rumors actually does the opposite of what you think it does. It's the easiest way to reduce your own party's influence.
