Default How much video RAM is needed for DeI near max settings?

I've just upgraded my PC from an old Phenom IIx4 955 to a Core i5 6600, and I've noticed I can't really crank the graphic settings any higher than I could before, using the same AMD 7870HD video card (2GB). Any higher and I get some stoppages in battles. So I am guessing DeI needs a lot of video RAM for new textures?

    Settings for reference:

    Texture quality High

    Shadows MEDIUM
    Water LOW

    Sky Very high

    Trees Extreme

    Grass Extreme

    Depth of field low
    Particles LOW

    Terrain very high
    Buildings very high
    Unit details HIGH

    Unit size MEDIUM

Distortion effects on, SSAO on, Blood on, alpha veg off
Unlimited Video Memory : ON GEM ON

A lot of the settings IMO doesnt need to be set that high. The difference is quite small.

Tress and grass setting are one of the most performance costing ones, unit details and unit size add for much better game look so I would put more emphasis there.

Thanks for the thoughts. It's great to be back to DeI.

There is no problem with raw performance of CPU and video card, which is why I had some less important settings at Extreme. But going any higher in anything there is a slight pause every now and then, I guess because video RAM is full and something is being swapped over the slow PCI-e bus with system RAM. I can almost get by with large unit sizes at the above settings, but it must be just over video RAM budget in 40v40 battles. I shall try lowering tree and grass detail, as Kam suggested.

Anyway I can always finish my old campaign with medium unit sizes. Rome II with DeI and GEM certainly looks gorgeous.

Next time you buy a GPU, get one with 4gb vram That should be minimum for modern games nowadays!

I certainly shall get a 4GB card when I get one later.

I usually just crank up the Unit size and detail while environmental affects are minimized.

Rome II with DeI Mod does use at 1920*1080 at high settings a Vram of 2,8 GB.
So yes, it requires a 4G Card.

I agree with the 4gb card minimum, however I have experienced Rome 2 only viewing 3gb of my 4gb card and this has happened on multiple architectures. Not sure if there is a fix for this though.
