Default The Last Roman DLC Mod?

    Hey AE Team,

Great work, looking forward to play this mod as its the only reason im buying Attila.

I was wondering though if you are already planning to include a mini campaign based on the map of The Last Roman DLC.

That would be a good opportunity to remake CIG, HatG, or focus on Pyrrhus of Epirus, the Illyrian Wars, Illyrian Revolt and so on.

A Carthage campaign is the obvious choice but our main campaign is also at the height of the 2nd Punic war so we'd be having double. I think the Age of Charlemagne map would work best for a Caesar in Gaul type campaign, with the possibility to fulfil Caesars ambition and invade Britain being a nice addition.

What about using it for the domination of Sicily and the conquest of Iberian Spain while trying to attack Carthage? RTW mods have done this before,

The thing about the spain idea, the main campaign is already bloody fantastic spain wise. Its going to be so fun capturing all of spain as Rome. I think we'll be going the Punic for the last roman, first or second but its not really decided. I suggested we do a mini scripted campaign for the last Roman to showcase how AE campaigns work and to add a little narrative to the opening of the main campaign.

I think for last roman, the second Punic war is probably best, not the first, as the first one was mostly fought by the navy, no major land battles like cannae and zama, or at least not that I joke of, and finally, the units used by both Carthage and Rome in the 1st Punic war were different to the ones used in the 2nd Punic war. If 2 campaigns about the 2nd Punic war is a problem, a Pyrrhic campaign could be an option, like the Pyrrhus at the gates mod, although, the Roman units and Carthaginians didn't have the same units as the 2nd Punic war then. Maybe 2nd Punic war is the way tto go, who wouldn't love that type of scenario
as for age of Charlemagne, caesar sounds good, it is the only thing I can come up with for AOC.

Invasion of Britain was another idea, a little more confined and makes little use of the rest of the map I guess but more close and concentrate, good for 12 turns per year.

An invasion of Britain in my opinion and yyours is too confined, also, it will be quite hard, as you have a bunch of disorganised and not united tribes face the worlds strongest soldiers. It does sound fun, but not everybody would want it focused on Britain I think. Many people like starting off small, although other people don't mind. This is your mod, the decision is solely yours, I am just giving an opinion. Caesar campaign in the form of CIG can also eventually give the option of invading Britain. But you can also fight the Gauls. If Rome controlled most of the map, destroying the Romans would be too difficult as a Celtic tribe.

I had the same thoughts for the Second Punic War (218-201), as it coincides perfectly with the Second Illyrian Wars (220-219/218), while at the same time Rome was fighting the Celts in Cisalpine Gaul (Battle of Telamon in 225BC) north of River Po as well.

This period coincides also with the flourishing of Syracuse under Hiero and eventually the Siege of Syracuse (214-212, where Archimedes was killed).

Furthermore, lets not forget The First Macedonian War where Philip V of Macedon (persuaded by Demetrius Pharos, former king of Illyria defeated by Rome) is trying to conquer Illyria and get his hands on the Roman cities or allies of the Illyrian coast, with the goal of crossing the Adriatic to invade Italy.

Perhaps people with knowledge on Gaul and Hispania can help for more info for those regions.

So basically, a partial list of playable factions would include:

    1. Rome
    2. Carthage
    3. Ardiaean Kingdom
    4. Kingdom of Macedon
    5. Syracuse
    6. Cisalpine Gauls

This is all true, the macedon part would start overlapping into the main campaign though.

It's not really an either/or type thing here. We can do as many sub-campaigns with these maps as we want. Right now, the focus is Grand Campaign.

I will *probably* end up making the Last Roman map officially a Pyrrhic Wars scenario. A Caesar in Gaul and a Punic Wars/Second Punic War would come later.

There is a way to add in campaign buttons. So, they can all be included. I'd like to do it all - eventually.

You could do a Spartacus campaign. I remember a mod made a Spartacus overhaul for the original HatG campaign and it was a blast.

In my mind, there are a few campaigns that come up for TLR campaign that i can sum up in one sentence: any of the wars involving the Italian city states, kingdoms, confederations and greek city states in Italy. Hell, you could try the cimbrian wars.

For AoC, I would think probably the Imperial war with the Germanic tribes (VARUS! GIVE ME BACK MINE LEGIONS!!!), or the obvious Caesar in Gaul campaign (with playable Britannic and German tribes, would you please?). Another good one is the Celtic migrations into Iberia, Italy, Britannia and the Pannonia's!

    What do you guys think?

I think a Brittania campaign covering Hadrian’s expedition and the gradual build of Hadrian’s wall! Also would be good to recreate the IX Hispania that disappeared north of Hadrian’s wall.

I think, packing the campaigns in different files... using last roman or age of charlemagne we could have a lot of historical campaigns!!! At your choice!!!

    That would be great!!!

Anyone willing to share some knowledge on the files needed to edit to transfer the AE factions into the TLR campaign and the tools necessary to do that? I wouldn't want to start on my own and leave something out and then start from scratch.

Another possibility for the Last Roman would be to go from the end of the Samnite war to Phyrric war to the first Punic war. A kind of "Rise of Rome" scenario. Victory conditions being to capture all the regions you hold in the beginning of the Grand campaign.
