    Default Marching Animations help

I like all the new animations except when Roman sword infantry march at the ready even when the enemy is no where in sight. Its not realistic. Can someone please link the guide to change this back. I only want my infantry to march at the ready when the enemy is close enough to engage.

March at the ready means slightly hunched forward, shields raised, and swords out and ready. It looks cool but looks very unrealistic when my troops march this way when the enemy is not close by.

They won't march at ready when enemy is near. Either legionares will always walk in formation or they will just casually run towards enemy lines in untrained rabble, since there is no "ready and also moving" stance in game, since unit can be moving or ready, but not both.

I don't understand. In the Vanilla game the legions would march regularly and when the enemy was close enough to engage they would switch to the ready stance.

No they don't. They would switch to that stance only if standing still, but they would aproach enemies without formation.

And foreign unites also do it in DeI, take a look at hoplites who always march in phalanx.

First - the battle size of the map means they are about to engage anyway. No army is in marching order when about to engage unless they are caught on a road or something. Its not a perfect solution - I realize its not popular to have the animations always there, but its a compromise. Our choices are -

Formation animations as they are now, no formation ability clicks
No formation animations, formation ability clicks
Formation animations, formation ability clicks, AI doesnt use it

Typically many of my battles has my army traversing terrain which can take 5 to 10 minutes so they are not engaging quickly. You say no army is in marching order yet roman spear infantry march normally and switch to at the ready when close. Also foreign armies do not march at the ready unless they get close. Only roman sword infantry march this way at all times. Im no modder so I may not understand it the way you do but it appears that this is only affecting Roman sword infantry.

I meant historically, armies marched differently than they were in battle order. You said it wasn't realistic, I was simply saying that being within 5 minutes of engaging an enemy, they wouldn't necessarily be in marching order.

As far as the technicalities go, this was our choice given the limitations of the game. We may refine these further as we go. It also affects hoplites.

Its not ideal, and hopefully we can further refine it a bit.

So after some more time playing I feel like I want to try out the old animations. I read in a separate thread that I would need to go into land_units tables but not much other info was given. Can someone provide me with more info on how to do this?

What folder do I go to? Change what to what?

Change the man_animation column entry for Roman units in the land_units table.
Idk how much experience you have with modding. But due to your questions, I assume that you dont know much (about history, dont much about).
What you need to do is this:
Install the PackFileManager, PFM, and open up the first part of DeI.
There you find the man_animation in the land_units table and change it whatever it is in vanilla.
Så basically when you open up the .pack file of Divide et Impera you will in the right side see a bunch of stuff. Expand the one that says "db" and find the land_units table. Here you find the different units you want to mod. Under the unit info, find the man_animations.
To know what to change it to. Open up the data_rome_2.pack file and find the same unit.
If you have any questions just PM.
