My rig:
1. Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition
2. CPU: Intel Core i5 4690k OC:ed to 4,2 Ghz. I could go to 4,7 Ghz, but I like things quiet.
3. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970, the EVGA SSC (supersuperclocked) version.
4. Memory: Kingston HyperX at 2133 Mhz.
5. Samsung SSD EVO 120 GB as my system drive and 2 TB of storage upon that.
My problem: I can max out the game easily - as I can do with almost every game I throw at the system - but not with large or huge unit scale. As soon as I use that scale of units, things gets really choppy. I've paid 14K+ and my system can max out Battlefield 3, 4 and Hardline. Heck, it's near maxing out Crysis 3. If Empire Total war were not so laggy and I'd not get so frustrated about it, I'd get at least minimum 100 fps on ultra settings - minimum. Rome II is a different matter, but even at max settings, that game looks horrible anyway, so I don't even open the game anymore.
It seems to me that something is horribly wrong here. This game was made in 2005. And yes, I've seen the argument where people say: - whoa broh, only because it's an old game doesn't mean it's not demanding.
Yeah, if you're on a laptop with integrated graphics and a CPU core clock at 2,5 Ghz and 2 GB of RAM, I would understand that argument. I honestly wonder if they used NASA:s computers to make this game? 2 000-troop battles with this system? Are you kidding me? With huge unit scale, the fps can drop down to less than 30. What the?
I know the game is more CPU dependent - almost only CPU dependent - but lets face it, my i5 just shreds any CPU that existed in 2005. So I better get a call to NASA to max out the game with large - or huge - unitscale, right?
Does anyone know a way to get rid of the lag, or should I - after upgrading my system so many times I can't even remember anymore - just give up on the game? I think it's the best Total War game so far, but if I can't find a solution on this, I just give up. Why does every Total War game have these issues? Seriously. One begins to wonder wether the programmers and artists actually gets paid, because the quality of the game's performance is just horrible. Pathetic, is how I would really put it.
