is there a way either in files/mod/sub mod, to make a campaign starting from before the Samnite/Etruscan wars? to start a Grand Campaign in DEI holding just central Italia?
-thanks in advance

for example: something like the "Ager Romanus - Italia Renascitur" mod optimized and adapted for a DEI campaign?
That would require redoing the startpos files and would require you to do it everytime we redo our startpos files. Its doable. But its alot of work as you would need to recreate the Samnites and Etruscans as factions. And I think we used one of them to create the Indian Empire (though Im not entirely sure about this)
Oh I see, thank you greatly for the quick response Flasheart07 and Dresden. Love the mod just wanted more early conflict challenge within Italia as the Romans. I will eagerly await 1.2 info if that is the case!![]()
I would actually love a rome total war game that started out that early, where you were still fighting the samnites, and even against the etruscans. There is a mod for rome II called samnites at war, and it looked pretty promising in that aspect, but I have not had a chance to play it.
As for DeI, I don't believe anyone on the team but me would be interested in pushing the start date back that far just so I, I mean everyone could experience the glory of early roman expansion.
And why wouldnt we want that IvanI rarely play as the puny Romans and wouldnt care if something changed in Italy

But how many years are we talking about? As I understood it when we discussed this in the developers forum, the date would only be changed to around 280 BC.
Yeah that would be a bit too far back. We would most likely have to change more than just Italy in terms of factions and units.
Definitely. Combat would be a lot more simple spear on spear combat.
It would still be interesting eventually to perhaps based on the hatg campaign map where the romans face early threats from the Etruscan league and samnites, ending perhaps with the roman consolidation of italia, the shift from hoplite warfare to manipular spear, then the adoption of some early sword units.
I've always been fascinated with the earliest challenges of the roman kingdom and republic and how they overcame them. Sadly it doesn't make for interesting video game play, or no one has considered doing it on a sufficient scale.
For 1.2 we have discussed (and you participated in that discussion) pushing the date back to 280 if I remember. This allows for the historical inclusion of the Etruscans to some degree and Pyrrhus.
I am correct working on a idea for a submod overhaul of Hannibal at Gate and the date are set back to year 340 BC at the Latin war.
Is 340 BC too early?![]()
