Medieval 2 wont even install

My medieval 2 game wont install, whenever I try to I get an error message telling me to upgrade to or above Windows 98SE (I'm swedish) or Windows 2000, I have Windows 10. I am certain it's not a problem with Windows 10 or this computer, as I could run it just fine before, but then there was a small update, likely fixing a couple of bugs in the system or something, and I can't get it to start after that.

Thinking I could fix it by re-installing the game, I uninstalled the game, and when I tried to install it, the same error message popped up.

I really want help as the only Total war game that I can play now is Shogun 2, and I'm not a big fan of that one.

No idea what the problem might be - but you can circumvent the issue by converting to Steam.

Thank you for the tip, but I am unable to try, because I semm to have misplaced my manual somewhere. I will try it as soon as I can though.
