    Default Argh, a virus.

I seem to have gotten a virus, unfortunetly. It has infected Windows live messenger, it takes over and sends spam to all my contacts, I dont know if it does anything worse than just send them spam though. How can I get rid if it?

there was a post made about that virus here before. not sure what it was called. try an online scan from symantec.

also google for live messenger virus, cause im sure there was a tool to remove it somewhere.

might be it? either way look around cause its pretty common to get a virus through a microsoft product

Some might argue microsoft products are the virus.

What firewall/Antivirus are you running? You'll want to make sure all of your software is up to date.

Download Avast antivirus free edition, update and run it. Once that's done download an antispyware piece of software such as spycatcher (although this particular piece of software is quite aggressive) run that and bin anything found that looks suspicious.

... Erm... anyway you should just run a load of scans i'm sure the current software should be able to recognise this virus. I recommend avast antivirus (aforementioned), and spysweeper is the best anti-spyware program (you can get a 2 week trial). I also recommend downloading Ad-aware personal for it's fantastic anti ad-ware scan (do this first i say)

Im doing all the scans for viruses, adware, trojans etc that I can, but the bastard keeps coming back. About half the viruses in my vault must be that same virus, I keep finding it in the same place. There must be another program initializing the install, or maybe MSN itself is infect, I will delete MSN and reinstall it.

Start > Run. Type in 'msconfig' and go to the startup tab. Disable anything that looks suspicious or you just plain don't want to start when you boot your PC. Restart. Does the virus Show?

Also, what is the name of the virus that keeps popping up?

Thanks, but I think I got it deleted, there was this icon that showed up in tool bar just before the virus would hit, it was the visual basic sign, but then I found a visual basic program or rather a virus disguised as VB then deleted it, so I hope its gone. The program that keep getting caught was called "tel.exe", I had a heap of them, from months back as well though.

Cool, With that particular virus I think all you have to do is delete C:\system32\tell.exe.
