Placeholder generic AOR
A lot of us moving from EB or RTR into MTW2 might miss the presence of AOR units, or perhaps feel frustrated at the ability to recruit ethnic units off the bat from a foreign province. While it would take a full blown mod (Like MTR, M-A, ecetera.) to really do AOR and recruiting justice, I think we could develop a rudimentary version for people to use in the mean time.
What I had in mind was using at first the mercenary skins of units when applicable, and later on having them skinned to be neutral-looking. The premise is pretty much like any AOR was in RTW - You conquer the levant or Asia minor and are able to recruit Turkocopiles, you conquer france or england and you can recruit generic armored spearmen/mercenary spearmen, and you conquer italian cities and you can recruit generic pavise crossbowmen. Either their stats would be below their comparable faction-unit (AOR Armored sergeants might have less moral or less defense than an Armored Sergeant of France or England, for instance) or would be pretty much the same. That's simple enough. What would be more ambitious is to have the AOR replace the first few tiers of a barracks, then lump in the missing ones at the next tier.
For instance, for the Moors in France, Tier 1 might be sergeant spearmen/spear militia with french appearance, tier 2 might be armored sergeants, then tier 3 would be moorish spear militia, and the units of a moorish tier 3 barracks. The french-units could dissapear (Forcing people to choose between using local soldiers of a low/medium status or going with their nation's own and reaching your top tier stuff), or could remain. The only issue I think is that it'd be a bit complex to do that, I believe. I'm not sure you can make it so they can recruit their ethnic units off the bat in spain or africa, but cannot in France [They'd end up having to reach tier 3 for their units in spain, unless you made it so they could recruit their ethnic units as normal in tier 1 and 2 if they were on a province with a hidden 'moor' resource]
I Think I'll give this a try myself when the patch comes out, but probably just for factions of my choosing (Moors and Turks, and maybe a few things for the Europeans [Like recruiting turcopiles in the middle east]) but it's worth suggesting for others as well. I also don't know how to skin, and skinning would help tremendously in providing an AOR-Skin of a unit.
