Default Failed 12.12.06 mrjesushat for Civitate (Nihil)

Fellow Patrician Nihil has asked the CdeC for a vote to be taken on mrjesushat. Nihil is interested in patronising him, and as always it is our duty to discuss and approve/disapprove of him.

There was nothing particularly unusual about this, apart from the fact that mrjesushat had only joined the previous day! From the very start of his posting career, it was obvious that he was a prime example of an upper echelon poster, and he has continued to produce quality ever since.

Like most of our members in the "mature" age bracket, mrjesushat exhibits none of the behavioural issues that can sometimes occur with the younger guys. I enjoy seeing fellow old guys like him around. I believe these are the kind of members we should be welcoming to the civitate community and encouraging to remain members of the forum for a long time to come, personifying as he does the attributes of civility and intelligence.

    Mrjesushat's paragraph:

He would seek, as ever he has in the past, to deepen debate, enhance the quest for eternal truth, and enliven the boards with wit and winks. Winks are an empty promise, of course, since we cannot express such a thing in writing, and the smilie winks are really kind of obnoxious. But Mrjesushat would hope that all those who read his posts would imagine him winking. In fact, many of his posts are written with only one eye open.

It is the sincere hope of Mrjesushat that his comments, though sometimes pointed, will be taken in the lightest of senses. Further, he extends the olive branch to all those who might have once crossed brain-blades with him. Mrjesushat loves debate, he loves children, and he loves liberty. He also loves spinach.

Personally, i've been watching this guy since Prarara first proposed him. He is intelligent, mature, and has a sharp wit. I think he would make a fine civitate.

    Opinions? Let it commence!

Personally, I think not; he is at times highly abrasive, a poor poster, skirting the edge of the rules. Look at these (all on the first page of a search of his posts):

    Not civitate material I find.

I don't find anything wrong with the first and third links you've given, Ozy. The second one, although sarcasm, is not favourable, and can easily be taken the wrong way.

I'll dig up some more stuff later, the bell for my next class rings within the minute.

Can we ask when said caution was given, please, at least in approximate terms?

    That's the forum default...
So that's two days ago. If that is when it was given, hell, that's a serious black mark. Any way we can check that Spiff?

I wouldn't say a serious black mark - its a mere caution and of course may well be explained by mitigating factors. Worth considering though, but i wouldn't say this caution alone essentially ruins his chances.

In any case it was this post:

Personally, based on my experiences with him, he is not mature at all. He has a caustic and overbearing sense of sarcasm, which has been displayed in numerous instances and doesn't seem to understand or care that sarcasm doesn't convey on an internet form in the best of ways.

I can't see him being a civitate with the way we carries himself, to be honest. Arrogance to the amount that he portrays is something that should not be welcome amongst our ranks, especially with bills on the floor which open up the curia to everyone.

Maybe he'll improve over time, but I can't say that I would support him right now.

So we know what it originally said? That can be helpful. If not its not too much of a problem, it just fits in with what seems to be the prevalent view of him.

No the comment was edited out, but we can trust the moderators discretion enough for the purposes of this vote that the caution was justified, in that it did was not severe enough to deserve a full warning.

He has been a part of the community for some time so he should know the way things works by now. I vote no.

I have to abstain after I saw more of his posts, perhaps once he matures a bit he could become a Civitate material but not just yet.

I vote yes, he's a very good poster when he wants to be, and shows a heck lot more than potential. He can have an abrasive personality, but all the more reason to vote him in I say.

I would vote in favour still though. He is mature, though some of us don't always see it. His sarcasm is not always the most pleasant of things, but I really don't see his sarcasm as rude when he uses it.

Also, he is actually participating in things like debates, unlike myself as of late....

G_S, is potential enough? Is being a good poster sometimes, when he wants to be, rather than always, when he should be, enough? Personally, I think not.

No, but he showed a lot more than potential.

I think he's consistently shown a great level of intellect. Just because you don't personally like his personality does not mean we should discount him as a civitate.

I agree, let's discuss this some more and have us a revote.
