Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
    System Memory 1024.5
    Processor Speed 3199.3
    DirectX Version 9.oc

you should most def. lower those settings, not sure to what, but much lower,

the problem is also your video card, a 6600le, is well, just not very good at all

well...if you want to play it without lags AND wothout buying a new graphics card you should simply turn off the shadows

turn the shader version to 1, then put everything to medium, then lower the texture filtering down to x2. I found that the game runs great and looks good with these settings even with a few HUGE armys an the field (Ive had 2 full stacks to the comps 3).
And if the camp map is giving you problems... It shouldnt but if it is turn the campaign shadows off
    hope that helps out

Im only on a nVidia EN7100GS512 and its SWEEEET, no probs at all
OH almost forgot yes my unit size is set to huge

Great. I've done it and game runs spectacular; However, I sort of miss when soldiers turns red, dirty or burned when killed.

well, u can find out if u have agp chipset or pci-e by going to start menu -> run -> write dxdiag and push "enter" and go to display after that, u should find chipset :...

ok, ur slot is agp8x (nvidia 6600LE is agp8x version from my knowledge) so the best videocard u could buy would be a nvidia 7600gt at around 200 euros in nederlands i think
high-end video cards arent made for agp8x anymore

happened to me with rome way back when, and with medival, the auto detect never worked. Try setting resolution lower and lowering all the unneccesarry stuff and eliminate grass.

The game runs with the settings you told me But still...i think its better to buy new video card...how do i make sure i buy the right one? PCI or AGP?

3rd tab in dxdiag, not the 1st one, should offer more information on ur video card
and it's pci-e(xpress) or agp8x pci is absolete for video cards as well

has anyone tried the "clean boot" to see if there is a performance gain?

It's the high resolution you're running at thats draining the bulk of your performance. I realize with LCDs and widesceens you might be stuck that way but try some lower resolutions to see if they're still acceptable.
