Why do people keep saying "Tom Cruise is gay?"

Or if not saying it, hinting at it with jokes. I see it all the time, its become a popular subject for tv comedians. How did this rumour start and is there ANY evidence to support it? All I've seen is evidence to the contrary. For instance, his recent marriage and sexual intercourse with a real girl seems like pretty strong evidence to dispell this rumour...but no, it persists...

So I want to know, what is up with this undying cliche?

but again, the evidence of a wife and baby is pretty strong compared to these claims of .....asexuality or gayness. Where is the proof to support it? There is proof for eccentricity, sure, but none for gayness or asexuality as far as I know.

I want to see Tom Cruise go back to being a straight, eccentric and rich a-hole with the crazy space religion. But calling him gay is a step too far.

Besides, I don't get whats the big deal about associating someone with homosexuality . Is it meant to be an insult or something?

I wouldn't care who was trying to insult me if I was with Katie Holmes who in addition to not being a man is a total babe.

I don't see what your argument is. Throughout history plenty of homosexuals have married and had children. I believe even Tchaikovsky was involved in a few long term relationships with women.

You are asserting a claim without any basis. What is your reason for slandering Tom Cruise based on his sexuality? I'm not attacking you, im generally curious to know if hardcore evidence exists out there for the foundation of this rumour.

edit: generally people refer to Top Gun or tom jumping on Oprahs couch as strong evidence of his homosexuality, but I just dont see it. Maybe Top Gun is a bit homo erotic but I mean, that can hardly be called convincing evidence. Hey, Colin Pharel played a gay guy too. Why no rumours about him?

Presumably it is because of the lack of emotion in his face whenever we see him kissing or hugging a woman both on screen and off it. Of course there is also no hardcore evidence to suggest that he is heterosexual.

Uhm...the sextape he made with his then-g/f Nicole Narain is pretty hardcore evidence that he is heterosexual.

As for Tom Cruise, what's the point in nitpicking about a joke? I mean, before Katie Holmes he was married to the Kidman and all their kids were adopted, so you had good groundwork for rumors, plus the idea itself that the superstar/actionhero/ladiesman is actually gay is amusing. He does pretty gay things from time to time though and "Top Gun" is probably the gayest mainstream movie of all time, though of course Tom Cruise is not solely to blame for that.

Tom Cruise goes to every length to prove he is NOT gay that it is just too hard for people to not say/hint that he is.

If enough people say a lie enough times inevitably people begin to believe it is true. I'm not sure if this is the case here (he could be "in the closet" ...Southpark episode...sigh) but the more people say it, the easier it is to believe.

I think its a fabrication of the media, perpetuated by comics because it always gets a cheap laugh.

Its even spread so far that I hear people hinting at how John Travolta is gay. This has to end already! Until someone makes a public statement that they had a homosexual affair with either john travolta or tom cruise, I will not laugh at or acknowledge anymore gay jokes for either of them.

He's rich, good-looking and a famous actor. Theres the reason people keep up the whole gay thing- spite. He's boinking Katie Holmes, surely even gay men would find her attractive

I agree man, TC is basically one of these media targets that never gets left alone. I'll say he's had a few bad movies, but really, people are basically just jealous of what he's achieved. And they're probably scared of the whole evolution from clams thing. And baffled by how the crying mechanism as a result works.

Where did the whole idea that he is gay even originate from? South Park?

But then again, the sexuality of celebrities are always questioned, not because there is a real reason for doing so, but because it's entertaining to the public and it brings in revenue for those who use it.

The main myth I hear is that Tom and the scientologists controlling him kidnapped, duped and brainwashed Katie Holmes into marriage to make it look like Tom isnt gay.
