Icon3 A Question About Unit Size

After yet another seige where my 5 units of longbowmen w/ flaming arrows failed to take out even a single siege tower, a thought occurred to me: Does the computer adjust for unit sizes when calculating siege damage?

What I mean is this. I play with medium unit sizes since my comp is over 4 years old and I'd rather have a nice graphical experience with fewer units than a massive battle with lousy eyecandy. Thus, I am firing fewer arrows at the siege tower than a gamer using large or huge unit sizes. In my mind, the computer should adjust for this by giving the siege towers less "hit points". Does anyone know if this is in fact the case? I'm not sure what code I'd look at (as I'm new to the TW genre) and I can't perform an experiment myself without suffering pretty serious lag. If one of you would like to investigate this for me, I'd be really appreciative.

the AI towers are made from asbestos. I've never burned one either. And half of my stacks are usually archers.

Aye, it's AI cheating. Their towers are made by out of asbestos and steel, and yours are made out cardboard soaked in ethanol. Worrying about unit size and siege tower hitpoints is pretty moot until this is fixed.

Honestly siege towers probably shouldn't catch fire from arrows on either side.

And should have archers and ballistas on them, and be preloaded with troops to run out en masse as soon as it hits the wall.

And the defenders should be able to throw small fire pots that would catch the tower on fire.

Someone's been watching a lot of Kingdom of Heaven...

I set them on fire all the time. Usually when I'm playing as the Turks since I always have plenty of Janissary Archers defending my cities.

It was in kingdom of heaven. But it also is historical.

Even Alexnder had archers and ballistas in his towers. Hell, he had towers for nothing but.
Firepots were probably invented about the day after the oil lamp was.
Preloading the tower with troops is just common sense.

I know, just screwing around. At any rate, I don't find it very difficult to light up seige towers...

Also, this may be the wrong thread - but is there some kind of bug with Turkish generals? They don't ever seem to give any speaches...

    Here is a tower-related/Weather question.
Based on a few other seiges, it seems like towers were less likely to catch fire in rain/wind. I assumed this had to do with arrows being less effective in these conditions. (I assume this still applys in M:II as it did in previous TW games)

So when assaulting a major city recently with towers and rams, I attacked in a heavy rainstorm despite the fact that a prefer fighting in nice weather during the daytime. I thought "no way they will light me up"....

yeah...well...3rd #$%^ing flaming arrow FROM A TOWER hits one of my towers it burns to the ground. 3 more towers roll forward with 2 rams.... All but ONE of my towers was sent up in flames as well as one of my rams. it was like a monsoon out there and this stuff lit up like it was raining oil or something.

I mean, I still took the city...but c'mon. I agree these things would never catch on fire from a few flaming arrows anyway, let alone in pouring rain.
You shouldnt even be able to use flamming ammo when its raining. ugh.

Why not? Fuel will burn in any weather. You dip the arrows in some kind of accelerator and they will burn in anything. However, rain would make it really hard to light something else on fire with them, that I agree.

Fair point about the "fuel". But yeah, a big old wet wooden contraption should not be flammable.

and you know what just occurred to me? Whatever happened to flaming oil etc. pouring from above the gates???

they traded the oil for the asbestos

    Nice!

Yeah, boiling oil was a very common medieval tactic, blows my mind why they left that out. Was one of the best ways in real life of dealing with rams.

Well in that case I will be contacting the EPA and their insurance companies. Also lets be honest, how dissapointing is it that there are no farm animals we can set on fire at a whim anymore?
Definitely missed the opportunity for some comedy there. But there are enough other laughable things in this build of the game. See above...and pretty much every other post on any forum...

In Vanilla build of RTW. Don't you remember the "flaming pigs"??? Hilarious. Totally ineffective at doing anything on the battlefield except making me laugh.

I was a history major in college so I am all about historical accuracy and stuff, but a little kitsch is good too

OHH YEAHHHH. I forgot about them.

I thought you meant you could have your archers light up a herd of cattle or something
