how do i make the pope happy?

hi how can i make the pope like me.he hates me a the moment playing as england, got most of france he keeps telling me to leve them,then they attack me?any help would be nice

as soon as you start the game, send a diplomat to rome and set up to give him 100 per turn. Keep this up throughout the game and he'll love you.

Free money always improves relations. Afterall, we are talking about the catholic church here....lol

Marine hoplite is right. If you drop in favor, about 1000 per notch will make you his pet faction again.

Another thing to do (But it's kind of an exploit) is park a diplomat in rome (you should do that anyway) and every 3 or 4 turns give the pope map info as a gift. It'll improve relations even if it's info they already have.

1. yeah, regular subsidies are good. How do you think he pays for those gold robes?

2. Do what he says, go on Crusade, convert regions, etc. You'll get more details on these missions when they come up.

3. Don't attack non-excommunicated Catholic factions. Your rep will drop and you may also get excommed.

4. Give him land in awkward places you don't feel like defending yourself.

5. Get your own Pope elected. Your own is always very much better disposed toward you than the Pope of another faction.

6. Build a Cathedral or Huge Cathedral.

crusades! i am playing as england. i have some provinces in france. i want to attack the spanish, so i can have control of that area. at this moment in time, my pope reputation is about 4 crosses-not gr8. Spain gets excommunicated. i request a crusade against the province i most want. take it and bob's ur uncle! the pope loves me and i get the province i want.

Do the missions he sets you and go on crusades, thats all I do and I end up being his number one faction.

Seriously, building religious buildings (abbey, church, cathedral, etc), makes the papal states more friendly, giving money to him also works and keeping your provinces high on catholicism is nice too.
