    Default Regicide

Playing as England I got a message from the Scottish prince (57) asking me to assasinate his father (80-odd). If I succeded I would be given 5000 gold coins.
As I was at war with Scotland I thought I'd give it a try. So I trained an assasin in London and sent him north of the border. I searched around for the king who must have heard of his sons plea because he was hiding on the south coast of Ireland. Amazingly my brand new level 1 assasin killed king Malcolm in one try.
The Prince was so happy that he sent the 5000 florins out straight away, ceased hostilities with me and reset our relaions to perfect.

The poor bugger died 2 turns later

I'm only mentioning it because it happened in my first game but hasn't happened since - has anyone else been asked to do this?

Yup, fairly frequently. Haven't been able to pull it off yet though. He's usually difficult to kill so you were in luck. Unfortunately you have to actually assassinate him, not take him out on the battlefield. Learnt that the hard way!

Which, to be honest is quite odd, as I don't really see why killing him on the battlefield would be wrong, for his son. He gets the throne anyway...

Most likely because you would have to invade that factions territory to kill him. You may have done what the son wanted, but you've possibly started a war, and got an army inside his territory. I would'nt be pleased if that happened.

I think the point is that if anything goes wrong then the King wouldn't be implemented - you would be.

i've had a few of them... usually I start spamming assassins and make a good 20 attempts on the king's life, and I've never succeeded yet.

I always thought it was strange, the failure consequences for this mission is "this faction will be disappointed in you"

Honestly, why would the leader of a faction be disappointed that you failed to kill him?

There should be no consequences for not completing this mission.

I've never been able to pull it off either. Those kings are hard to kill.

Maybe they would be dissapointed since the heir I'm sure has a lot of say in diplomatic relations. The king may not know anything about what happened but the heir should be able to influence relations IMO.

Hah hah! Nice. And VERY lucky!

I've that kinda message too. The French prince wanted his old man dead, so I sent an assassin to take care o' him. But he probably died before I got to him (couldn't see or find him anymore), so the French prince called off the hit.
Ah well... didn't matter much anyway. Soon after I took care of the prince anyway with that same assassin!

I also find it strange that "the faction will be disappointed" if you fail the mission.
