    Default New mod idea-WWI

    Ok i have no idea about how to make a mod and what are the limitations and other problems so ill just let this get out.

    I got this idea of a World War 1 mod for medieval total war. You see, in the begginging stages of WW1 they used cavalry, which can be replaced by the tank later on. Seeing the rate of fire with the Arquebusier unit i thought of this mod. Baisically, Tanks would be arttilery peices, just a little faster. Soldiers would be in squads of a smaller unit size. There could be arrtilery other than tanks, like the motars. What im really requesting is a mod with totally changed skins and the deletion of alot of units.

    If there are any questions, comments, or critisism please state. I could give more details if given some questions and changes.

    You'd need a darn good graphics processor to pull that one off.. My desktop crashed the first time the Monster Bombard fired.. thank god I have a brand new HP Pavilion Entertainment PC

    While what you say about unit diversity is true, WWI was generally a "boring" war since so much of it degenerated into trench warfare. I don't know how you could simulate that with the MTW:II engine and I'm not sure it would be much fun if you could.

    I believe someone else wanted to make a WWI mod as well. It was tried for RTW too. Of course, WWI mods always did and always will encounter the same problem - the Total War engine just isn't suitable for any wars after about 1853 (except maybe the Boer War). You can't simulate air battles and you certainly can't simulate the much more fluid types of battles that arise from the use of tanks, fast-reloading rifles, machine guns and so on. Even harder would be to simulate the (rather boring) trench warfare. Not only that, but you've got to completely redesign all the cities (sieges would be really stupid - imagine having to open holes in big walls, then storming through the city to take the square; it just wouldn't happen in WWI).

    Maybe in siege warfare its forts or no walls at all. That would be alot more challenging. For planes im not sure. Most likely a missile unit. Maybe like a suspended horse-archer unit? Soldiers could be like the regular musketiers and Arquebusiers but reduced in unit size.

    I always thought that the best way to simulate air warfare with the Total War engine was to have it similar to naval warfare in TW. You could build airports and air defences in your city, then purchase aircraft that would be stacked in another tab (like the "fleet" tab). Depending on how advanced these aircraft are there would be a range. If say you select a squadron of bombers and a town being held by the enemy was in your range you could attack it. A report would then come in saying what your bombers mangaed to destroy (could be enemy barracks and enemy soldiers but of course houses and civilian lives could be destroyed too making the moral in the city suffer) and it would report your bomber losses depending on the defences (AA guns) in the city and the fighter aircraft posted there that manged to scramble.

    You could build transport planes, recruit paratroopers, place them in the planes and drop them in the range of the transporter aircraft. Again depending on what defences there were (perhaps AA sites could be built how towers/forts are built) you would get a report on how many died and what planes/soldiers you lost in the drop.

    For cities you would simply remove the walls. I also thought about the formations for the soldiers. There could be two to switch between. Columns (the rectangle/square shape) for marching and then in a fight they would spread out into the circular formation peasents use.

    Well im thinking a little further ahead with the paratrooper stuff but my mind always wanders...

    Don't really need planes. This game is more Infantry and Cavalry oriented, so just add the infantry and cavalry. Make new custom maps that allow for trench warfare. Create new cities and models that reflect buildings of the time. and reskin/change the weapon reload time for the Infantry or cavalry. For the tank you could just use a cannon or something for a tank, or just leave the tanks out and reskin the cannons to howizters.

    Well, what westy said for air combat i think was a littile over the need. They could just be a unit like fleets that can attack other units and squadrons, just only with the auto-cal option.

    Also there were no recorded uses of paratroopers in WWI.
