    Default "I saw the Light"

I’ve wandered so aimless, life filled with sin
I wouldn’t let my dear Savior in
Then Jesus came like a stranger in the night
Praise the Lord, I saw the light

I saw the light, I saw the light
No more darkness, no more night
Now I’m so happy, no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord, I saw the light

I’ve walked in darkness, clouds covered me
I had no idea where the way out could be
Then came the sunrise and rolled back the night
Praise the Lord, I saw the light

Just like a blind man I wandered alone
Worries and fear I claimed for my own
Then like a blind man who God gave back his sight
Praise the Lord, I saw the light

When death takes me down and I breath here no more
My anthem will sound on that eternal shore
When I join with the angels in heaven on high
Singing “Praise the Lord, I saw the light”
For people of faith only please, this is not realy a debate, don't make it one.

When did you "see the light" and decide to REALY accept the current faith you posses?

For me, I had been baptised Catholic, raised protestant (Desciples of Christ) and I had been very indefferent to it all. Church was a chore, something unpleasant that I'd have to sit through every sunday...I mean christ I even had to go on christmas eve! I should have been at home enjoying my break right? The nerve.

Well, needless to say there was a change between myself now and myself then. Did I see Jesus? nope. Did I talk to a burning bush? nope. Did I have any supernatural experiance? not at all. My religious awakening happened suddenly, and it happend over a long drawn out period as well. I can't tell you exactly when I became a true beleiver in God, but I can tell you that there is a huge difference between me before and after this transformation. The craziest part about my "conversion" was the fact that I had been a closet athiest.

"For each one of us, as for Lazarus, it was really a veni foras - come out - which got us moving. How sad it is to see those who are still dead and do not know the power of God's mercy! Renew your holy joy, for opposite the man who is decomposing without Christ, there is another who has risen with him. (The Forge, 476)

I was brought up in a strict Catholic household. My mother is Venezuelan and my father is American. They were brought together through the Work of God, a prelature of the Church. My parents and the community hoped I would pursue a life of commitment to Christ through the priesthood, but I wasn't sure I wanted that. I ended up leaving the community.

For a while I wandered from Church to Church like Moses in the desert. During one of my visits home, the Prelate sent word that he wanted to meet with me. For us, the Prelate is a great man of God, so when he ask me to do missionary work to find myself, I just shrugged my shoulders and went.

It was in the midst of all that misery in Africa that my life changed. I was looking for understanding and purpose and it dawned on me that I was going about it all wrong. Life wasn't just about me, but rather about serving God. Something changed in me right away, but the change continues to manifest itself gradually. Looking back, I am different person that I was before.

I was raised a strict protestant in a very evangelical village in England (They actually made a concious effort to convert my Muslim father).

Now every few hours i see the light and how simple and safe things can be. Then a few hours later i see another light, then another and another.

It always comes back eventually, always at weird moments such as realising the complexity of our fingers. But oft to disappear as quickly as it came...

Rez, I noticed that you mentioned that your father is muslim but you were raised strict protestant. Was your mother protestant? Hope you don't mind me asking these questions.

I can't say I ever had a "I saw the light" moment in my life. My religious beliefs have formed over time and are a compilation of various different beliefs.

Like Cicero said... "Nature herself has imprinted on the minds of all the idea of God."

I don't think I saw the light but I dare to say God loves me and protects me which is very encouragous if I can say like that. Grew up catholic but always think of Church as of "Persona Politica" never as herd of beliefers. What more can I say?, if you follow Ten Commandments your life is getting better.

I saw the light when I finally realized the full circle of existence, when I traced the patterns and cycles of society and nature and gathered piece by piece of selective information, when I understood what it meant for one to be all, and for all to be one, and finally, when I placed all the pieces of the puzzle together and found a perfect match; historically, psychologically, politically, philosophically, emotionally, and logically. It's there alright. My own kind of faith... faith in the all.

I saw the light when I realized that the faithful have to rationalize their faith on the metalevel. This means that they don't really believe in any god, because gods are per se totally inaccessible, but only believe in faith itself, which as a feeling is real. They mistake faith with god. With that I came to the same conclusion than the first open Atheists did hundreds of years ago.

I had long strived to understand god belief, but after long talks with believers I finally found out one day that they don't believe at all. They themselves seem to be ignorant of that pretension though.

    This thread is another example.

I have yet to see "the light" and am moving further and further away from ever doing so.

I have yet to "see the light"; my religous life is going through a difficult time and it is unlikely that it will end anytime soon.

Are you referring to Christian Faith or faith in anything? just curious - being Christian myself. If Christian ~ not sure i am suppose to do this ~ i am curious on your thoughts on my thread "and your response would be?".

The song from the OP refers to seeing the light when you meet God, yes God who was written about in the Bible.

I was raised in a christian home, but was never forced to do anything "christian"

Then I started to talk to God, and everything becomes more clear to me (I saw the light). It was voluntary I guess. It started with me realising how much happier I was with God, and realising how good He is, that I wanted to know him more. So I cant really say WHEN I first knew God, cause its gradual. Though I do remember the first time I saw physically that God existed, when my youth group was praying and God showed up with us and we all started shaking and we fell on the ground, and the best part is that it was a GOOD feeling and I knew it was God, cause only God is so good.

Now the problem I see is that religion doesnt usually make God out to be who he is. the Gospel means GOOD NEWS, and the good news is that God is good in every way.
