Default Roman Auxilaries - When to introduce them?

I like to play my campaigns and form my armies in a semi historical way.

Im playing as Rome, and now control North Africa, Spain, Gaul, Germania Minor, Greece, Thrace, Pannonia, the Asia province and the Alpine provinces.

So far ive been running my armies pretty historically, and at the moment in the Marian period im running a Legionary core supported by varied AOR troops who supply cavalry/missile etc support.

Ive been holding off on using the Auxilary units that come with the level 3 Auxilary barracks, because i was under the impression that Rome didnt form the Auxilary cohorts until after Augustus became Emperor.

My Imperium is second to highest, but i cant get a civil war going, so i cant form an Empire and get an Emperor!!

...basically, when should i start using the Auxilaries?!

*shrugs* whenever you want? They are very good support infantry. Some like Baetican Auxiliaries I think actually are a bit better than legionaries. If you already control that much territory, than you're probably not that far off from a military victory. And if you consider your campaign done after that, than you probably don't have a lot of time left to use them.

As for the civil war, I finished one last week and didn't have a civil war. It seems that as long as you are unbiased as to what family leads your armies, cities and navies, the gravitas will stay spread out and civil wars are very unlikely. I think also the civil war event was changed a bit in DEI so it didn't just happen randomly ala vanilla.

    Thanks for the reply.

Youre probably right about using them before the campaign ends!

Time to reorganise my vast empire lol
