Five years ago today, George Harrison, one of the most successful musicians to date, passed away. Due to smoking for most of his life, mostly right up until the early 90's, he passed away due to cancer that he had been fighting for 3 years, in 2001.
Best known as the lead guitarist of The Beatles, George had a rollercoaster ride of a solo career. Climbing to great heights in the early 70's, he soon had a hard time reaching those heights. In the mid-late 80's however, Harrison experienced a revival, with the extremely popular Cloud Nine album. Also, he teamed up with lifelong friends Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Bob Dylan to form the supergroup, The Traveling Wilburys.
Sadly though, his second, and last Tour was his Live in Japan tour, conducted in 1992.
It's a sad day, he was an amazing man and musician.
Below is a couple of movies (Via youtube) that I enjoy watching:
All Things Must Pass (Acoustic 1997)
My Sweet Lord (Concert for Bangladesh)
Cheer Down (Live in Japan)
Eric Clapton has said: "I always knew he was an excellent Guitar player, but when I played his songs at the tribute concert, I gained a much greater respect for him" ...Clapton was a lifelong friend....
All things must pass, george![]()
