How bad is the mongol invasion?

Hey guys I'm playing as the turks and I basically own the whole middle east and north africa to tripoli, asia minor and constantinople. The mongol just decided to join the party east of yerevan so I sent my spy to take a peek. Well, to my surprise they are consisted of 1 1/2 stack, a full stack army lead by their khan consisted of mongol archers and mongol horseback archers and 2 unit of mongol heavy lancers. The other 1/2 stack with the same type of units. Now I'm playing at M/H, is there a different spawn rate for easier campaign map difficulty level? I've been reading this forum about how the mongols basically cut through cities and provinces like hot knife through butter and seriously I laughed when 1 1/2 stack is all I see.

I've made serious preparation for this event. I stopped expanding for maybe 15 turns and just pumping out dismounted sipahi lancers and janissary archers. I stockpiled 200,000+ florins and I have 3 full stack armies, 1 stack cavalry strike force of only qapakulus, sipahi lancers and sipahi archers, 2 stacks combined force built around janissary heavy infantry.

It seems though I'd just deal with the mongols quick and sent my armies to sack europe.

Meh, dunno why it is, but they may have split their armies. In my campaign, being a western nation, I only encountered them once or twice most of the times around the African coasts or at sea (one of their navies actually sailed all the way to Denmark )

At any rate, I think they destroyed the Egyptians, Turks, Byzantine and most of Venice, lucky me I only conquered Northern Europe, France and Spain

At any rate, 2 turns after their invasion started, here's what showed up at Jerusalem:

They don't all arrive at the same time, they start out with a few stacks, then they just keep coming.

They come in three waves with around 6 stacks in each wave, and can show up either near Baghdad, Yerevan, or up in the Russian Steppe. In my game as the turks, judicious use of Assassins and around 4 or 5 stacks of archers/horse archers wiped em out.

Guess I need 3-4 more stacks. Do you think its a good idea to temporarily switch all my border cities into fortresses/citadels?

Archers are your friend especialy Janisaries
when you are defending a city/castle Ballista/cannon towers are a must
Quick cavalary to chase routers and some decent Spearman

Well as the turks the only decent spearmen we got are the dismounted sipahis. Has anyone tried the saracen militias against them? I saved the game this morning (had to go to work) right after their first spawn near yerevan. I can't wait to get home, it's gonna be a long night!

the Sipahis will do the job (Saracen militia would be the second choice)

I've yet to see them ingame, but I was wondering..

Can they take control of a city? Or do they just sack them and move on?

And if they can take control of a city, are they able to build new units?

The 1 1/2 stacks are the scout party so to say, you will soon face 6 full stacks so be ready Good luck -Leon

I'm turtling as England, developing my economy, production, armies, etc so that I have 1 castle and the entire british isles are cities so that I can crusade, assassinate everyone and when the Mongols come I can whip the shiza out of 'em with my longbow ppl and superior infantry. We'll see.
