Not following anything historical. This is my first AAR, and i was greatly inspired by Monoxism wonderful Sicilian AAR
It is the year of 1080, King Henrique of Burgundy won the lands of Lisbon & Pamplona, as a dowry for his wedding. His wife was Theresa, the daughter of King Afonso VI of León himself.

His small kingdom lies in the shadow of the spaniards. And on a dangerous border with the moors. Prince Affonso, the heir of Henrique's lands, was just recognized as an adult and received the control of a small band of militia soldiers, to improve his command skills while his father was busy with a trip to Rome.

But Affonso had other plans. He looked into the lands of the Moors, and greed was already mining the fragile peace between catholics and moors in Spain.

But before his conquest plans could be forged, his marriage was arranged by his mother. And his wife was a younger sister of his own mother, Teresa of Spain married with Prince Afonso on 22 of August, of 1082. Sealing the alliance between the infant portuguese crown, and the Spanish crown.

    A Reconquista - the Moorish Wars 1083-1092

The Portuguese army was nothing but a band of militia men, some unexperienced cavalry and crossbowmen. But Afonso was confident that his plan would get the moors by surprise. The Portuguese fleet, left Lisbon on early march, to reach the small channel that could provide the moors with the reinforcements they would need.

And on the sixth month of the year, Prince Afonso crossed the Tejo (Tagus) river, and entered the moorish lands. The war of Reconquista started.

Forcing his soldiers to march quickly into Moorish lands, a few weeks later he was on Córdoba. And the city was under siege. The battle had to be quick, to avoid any kind of retaliations from the Moors coming from Granada. It was God's Will that a portuguese spy could open the gates. Afonso was coming, the moors were soon to be dispatched.

The Battle of Córdoba - September, 1084

Portuguese knights watch the gates of Córdoba, where their first clash with the Moors was sure to begin.

Our Spy was succesfull, and the gates were open.

The Portuguese army marches through Córdoba streets, without finding any resistance. It was a weird thing, surely to be trap.

Finally, the enemy is at sight!
And the portuguese soldiers double their march, arrows crossed the skies and shields were lifted to protect the hardened soldiers. Despite a few casualties, the march kept, and then, finally the battle began.

The moorish archers try to hold their lines against the portuguese spearmen.

The battle soon began to shift to the Portuguese side, as they pushed the moors into the City center, only to be met by a fierce resistance led by the Moorish General himself and his own guard.

But everything changed when Prince Afonso himself came charging like a thunder and met the enemy general with steel.

the Portuguese Prince was covered in his enemy blood. And soon the Moorish were retreating, but there was nowhere to run.

The entire city paid the price in blood, as 3.000 people were executed. Now, the city of Córdoba was part of the Kingdom of Portugal, and soon the news reached Rome, were the King was quite pleased with his son actions. And the Pope himself said that Afonso was doing the God's Will.

Ok. I will update this very soon. I'm having some troubles with FRAPS, so, i will start using another program. Sorry for the bad english until now.

    A Reconquista - the Moorish Wars 1083-1092

It didn't take long after the fall of Córdoba, for the Moorish seek revenge for their fallen brothers. Bad news came from Rome, the Pope didn't accept the crusade to Granada, that was suggested by King Henrique himself.

And as the dawn of the year of 1085 began, the moorish came. With an army under the leadership of Moustafa al Mubi, cursed be his name.

And on the fields near Córdoba, the Portuguese army rushed to meet their foes.

The Battle of Andalusia - March, 1085

Prince Afonso had no time to gather another army, so he rushed with his crossbowmen, his knights and a few spearmen, and with the help of mercenary soldiers from Spain.

Afonso ordered his men to stand on a single line, with his crossbowmen on front, and his knight on the left flank.

the Portuguese army stands ready, watching as the moors form themselves.

Soon after the skirmish began with the crossbowmen killing several of Moustafa's archers, Prince Afonso led his infantry across the field. The Moorish were on high ground, but soon the Portuguese army was marching at double speed, trying to avoid the high casualties from the arrows.

The Moorish fool sent his own weak and outnumbered infantry to meet Afonso on the field, and the moors were sure to be doomed, as Afonso led his powerful bodyguards to charge the rear of the moorish army. And then, the muslim began to flee, but the Portuguese cavalry were on their back, killing and taking prisioners when they could.

The Portuguese knights pursue the fleeing force of Moustafa, by the end of the battle, their own commander surrended after a small fight near a hill. And he was put to the sword, and his head was sent to his Sultan, as a proof that the moors were soon going to leave Iberia, or they would die on their stand.

the Fall of Granada - April, 1087

The battle of Granada was a fast one. As soon as Afonso army broke through the gates, the Moorish surrended and gained free passage to Marrakesh. With this act of good will, Afonso expelled the Moors from Iberia, and finally he could smile, looking to the size of his father kingdom.

But the moorish were still living, and still a problem, as Admiral Manoel battled them on the straits, and destroyed 2 of their ships.

the Bitter Peace - December, 1092

It was a cold december morning, when the Moorish envoy approached the gates of Granada. He was received by Afonso during the breakfast, where the envoy of the Sultan was treated as a guest. He could even see the Church that was beeing built inside the castle.

The moorish offered a ceasefire, and offered the rights to trade with Portugal. Perhaps, this would be the time to strenght Portugal's borders ? And then, finish off the Moors later.

The ceasefire was signed by King Henrique and the moorish Sultan Miswar, on Granada, by the end of December.

This is the end of the First Part. The Moors were expelled from Iberia, but Spain is quite.. hostile right now. Relations dropping fast, today i'm going to play at least 10~20 years, and then, i'll update here. Hope you guys like my humble AAR.

    the Years of Peace, 1092-1107

After the war against the Moors, King Henrique decided to use his time to rebuild the kingdom, and to fill his vaults with gold from trade across the Mediterranean.

It was a peaceful time in Iberia, Ferram Barroso was accepted in the family after he married with Maria, a princess of Portugal. Ferram was a good man, a good commander and he was rich enough to be a good husband for the princess.

Good news from Rome! It was on the year of 1101 that Pero d'Allmeida was nominated Cardinal, wich surely would improve our relations with the Papal State.

Portugal became an trade hub for Muslim & Christians, and greedy eyes were set upon the lands of King Henrique. News arrived that one of the sons of the Sultam Miswar had been assassinated, tensions started to rise between Portugal and the Moors, but the muslim were too weak to try to attack the portuguese lands.

And it was on early 1107 that the Spanish attacked.
The port of Pamplona suffered heavy losses after it was sacked by the Spanish, King Henrique took this as a declaration of war.

He sent his own son to Pamplona, and Ferram Barroso was sent to Granada. Both, should raise armies big enough to take the war to the spanish.

    the Spanish War, 1107-1118

And so, yet again, Iberia is engulfed in the flames of war.

Prince Afonso left the gates of Pamplona at the head of a huge army, their destination was León. They should travel through the hills, on a slower pace, but they were sure to get the enemy where they would not expect it.

A few days later, Ferram Barroso left Granada with his army, his destination was Toledo, the heart of the enemy.

During their march, Admiral Manoel attacked the Spanish Fleet near the straits of Gibraltar, the battle sealed the fate of the enemy fleet, as 4 of their ships sunk, without any losses to the Portuguese.

On the year of 1110, Prince Afonso approached the city of León. His army marched unmatched as the spanish fled to their city, but their stone walls would prove to be less effective than they hoped for.

the Portuguese army approaches the city of León, to prepare the siege.

Ferram Barroso was delayed due to the bad roads on Toledo, and arrived at the outskirts of Toledo on early 1112. The Portuguese plans were delayed, both cities should be conquered on, not anytime sooner or later, 1113. Prince Afonso couldn't know that Ferram was delayed, and then, he decided to assault the city.

the Battle of León - March, 1113

the Portuguese Cavalry gets ready for the battle.

The plans of Prince Afonso were clear: the Infantry would storm the gate, that should be opened by our spy, then our cavalry would provide the shock force to push the enemies towards the city center. And then crush them all together. A bold and dangerous plan, but a plan that should work.

the Portuguese forms up, ready to charge through the city gates.

the Spaniards rush to meet their doom.

The clash of the infantry at the narrow León streets was a bloody one, as the spaniards met the hardened Almughavars on battle, they soon started to feel the effects of their lack of training. Dead bodies started to scatter on the ground. Seeing the balance of forces getting shifted towards the Portuguese side, the Spanish Prince Rodrigo, decided to charge the invaders with his own cavalry.

the Spanish Prince led his nobles on a fierce charge towards the Portuguese army.

the Portuguese knights arrives to help their infantry and the bloodshed is certain.

It was a bad move by the Spanish Prince, when he decided to retreat with his cavalry, he was killed by the spear of a young knight that joyfully took the sword of the spanish Prince as a reward for his kill.

It didn't take long before the Spaniards surrended. Their prince were lost, and thei were outnumbered and surrounded. The battle was at it's end.

Many good men died on the Battle of León, but the Portuguese could get their spoils, as the entire city was pillaged, women raped, men killed. By the end of the day, León was conquered, and their population would accept Portuguese rule or they would soon be put to the sword.

the Battle of Toledo - January, 1114

General Barroso decided to camp his army on a small hill near Toledo, the castle was well guarded and he was waiting for reinforcements from Pamplona. But the Spanish didn't wanted him to wait, as they rushed to meet him at the field.

When the portuguese scouts saw the enemy, Barroso had the time to bring a bold plan into action, his army would stand on a small forest, on the path of the Spanish army. He prepared his ambush with caution, he would use his fast Jinetes as a mobile skirmish force, to ensure that the Spanish would walk into his trap.

the Spanish army marches toward the Portuguese, little did they know, that their fate was already sealed.

the Portuguese crossbowmen awaits as their enemies march towards their doom.

the Portuguese Jinetes charge from the forest, attacking the surprised spanish.

Even before the lines could clash, the Spanish army were already running. Destroyed by the portuguese attacks, they started to run, all the way beeing chased by the portuguese cavalry.

the Spanish knights are chased by the Portuguese knights, the fields were filled with spanish bodies on that afternoon.

Ferram, really deserved his position as a General of the Portuguese Army.

And so the Spanish war ends. The Spanish is broken, their armies were scattered, and all is left is his king that now is sitting alone at his throne in Toledo. Ferram arrived with his army, but the Spanish lost their will to fight. And thus, Count Vasco of Toledo, one of King Afonso of Spain most trusted knight, chose to bow his head to the Portuguese General, and to kiss his sword. The Spanish King left Toledo to live on a monastery on Zaragoza. His kingdom was destroyed, his son killed and his house taken.

It was a bold move by King Henrique, he could destroy the entire Spanisha army on two single battles. First, he took Leon from the Spanish Prince, then General Barroso destroyed the Royal Army on a ambush near Toledo. And thus, Iberia is pacified. Zaragoza & Valencia fell to Portuguese hands soon enough, when they saw the size of the Portuguese army, they decided to kiss the sword of Prince Afonso, and sworn vassalage to Portugal.

    Iberia is now Portugal.

Iberia is pacified. The Moors are at bay. But things are far from settled. On the next update: Crusades, Betrayal & Glory.

Heh.. My problem is, right now my reputation is sinking. The Moors were neutral, and twice i attacked them without 'provocation', and sacked / exterminated everything. I keep getting Relations Worsened with everyone, and now i'm 'Very Untrustworthy' (SP ?). I was at 'Very Bad' with Spain.

But right now, as a little teaser of the next part: I have a Pope and like 6 Cardinals, i have lands on the Holy Lands, and the Moors are gone for good.

I found that the Moors were a bunch of wimps. They gave me Granada and Algeirs on two seperate occasions for peace, although Algeirs didnt come with a Garrison so I had to rush my army besieging Marrakesh over there, I suppose it was a good diversion by the Moors.
