Squalor - It's just not fun.

It could be a late game breaker. You can build every single building, but in the end you must let them revolt. You cant raise troops to lower the population. Squalor will always outgrow your best anti-squalor buildings. It's just not fun. I realize it's pretty much a population cap for the game, but give me a check box to stagnate population growth sheesh.

It was much worse in RTW. Squalor hardly a problem for me in this game so far.

Squalor is capped at 80 %
you can have a Metropolis with 50k population with a 1 unit garrison and high taxes without problem

Mr Squalor does not grow over 80%
So with the help of Mr.Religion ,Mr. puplic order and all their friends the bad uncle unrest will not show up

He can't, he's just spouting off in the defense of the game as usual.

Squalor is still a bit of an issue but it's certainly not what it was. I tend to just use the "add_population -10000" cheat and pretend I "cleaned up" the city with a bit of fire and steel.

Don't you get to the point where happiness will reduce the population growth anyway? In RTW, when squalor got in the 90%, the population growth typically went in the negative. It almost took care of itself...... that and training tons of peasants.

True, in RTW squalor was a pain in the.....
+ the AI wasnt able to handle it

Ok I just read on another forum "I had a city with 40.000 citizens (-0.5% growth), one governor ( a newbie) and 6 militia units. Loyalty was 110% and I had all the law giving buildings. This was on Medium difficulty though, I think that the harder difficulties make Squalor more potent."

I dont think 1 garrison and High Taxes would go over to well in this city...

Garrison would not lower unrest at this city size any more until its a full stack
A governor helps of course and at higher difficulty squalor dosnt go up(capped at 80%)
but puplic unrest will increase
Maybe your problem is the heretics or witches they can easily bring a castle to revolt if you let em roam

Well in defense of wurfspiess right now I am in control of the whole middle east. I have 45k+ pop. in jerusalem and antioch and on each I only have the free militia garrison and no revolt. It is way easier to keep people happy in this game. I will post the screenshot when I get home.
