Danes, English, or Scots?

in that orderer as far as my preference goes, i don't care about heavy cavalry since i fight major battles with almost all of my faction members present.

i want to take one of these factions for the long haul. the english have those long range missiles, are they the only ones that have them? looks to me like that is their only advantage compared to the danes, aside from there starting territories.

the danish infantry, especially their heavy infantry, looked great on my first glance. i haven't looked at the english's but i'm assuming that they are inferior. i also noticed that the danish archers have a great defensive and melee rating compared to the english longbowmen.

i haven't mentioned the scots so far because i'm only considering them for sentimental value and the fact that you can conquer england right off with 3 or 4 well fought battles.

so which would you pick if they were your only choices?

btw, are faction special units restricted to that faction only? can you hire them as mercs or recruit them one you conquer that faction?

Play the English, its an awsome faction to take all of Europe with, Once you have control of the british isles just convert all ur castles to cities and the money will start flowing, giving you more than enough to fund plenty of armies to rampage through Europe. In my game, all of my Castles are south of the English Chanel

I'd go with the Danes. Their units are great, their position is quite good (not as good as England or Scotland, but a Danish reconquest of England will probably be one of your early goals anyway), and their faction color is a nicer shade of red than England's.

Ya the special units are only avalibal to the faction they are for. Some of them can come as mercs but not many, example: you won't find any Longbow men for higher in England unless you are English, with out moding of coruce. The English are in a good posision and have decent heavy infantry. After you have all of the isles to your slef no one will realy touch you there, thought I think the AI is capable. I have seen the English fariy armies across the chanel for crusades and the like. Thought the danes and the scots are not with out marit.

thanks for the quick responses guys. the english look like the best bet for a beginner like me. are the english the only ones with long range missiles? besides arty of course.

The x-bows of most factions have some good range on them, like Milan or Venice. The Spanish pack some puch at range with their musketiers in the later stage of the game. But the English take the cake on standard bow men when it comes to range and lethalaty as far as my experiances have teken me.
