    Help!. I have limited Modding abilities and only know a tad bit of changing script lines

    sooo. All this talk about finding a .cfg file and blah blah blah. I finally found it
    I then found the line show_banners=0 under "video"

    But i looked into the game and they are still showing?
    I then tried show_banners=1
    Still no
    Then i added show_banners=0 under "game"
    no luck.

    Please someone help. All I want to do is remove those pesty Floating banners. Thanks

    After you make changes you need to save the file and mark it read only.

    Help!

    recently downloaded mongol invasion mod. In which the cfg. disables banners. which I love.
    It also affects my vanilla game. So I deleted the mongol invasion from my med 2 folder.
    But still I have no banners. I added show_banners = 0 under video.
    But to no avail. show_banners=true as well. No avail.

    I did check the read only box, but still no.

    It should be: show_banners = 1!

    I have a problem, I want to change the armoured sergeants ability from schiltrom to shield_wall in the EDU. I just read this and it said I need a file, but it is a bit confusing, What exactly do I need to do to make sure my changes take place?

    EDIT:
    Please add this in. I use Steam for M2:TW, so it did not work for me adding the medieval.exe @mod.cfg thing, and I had to use C:\Users\user\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 4700 @mod.cfg.
    I guess you could use just Steam.exe, but it doesn't matter.

    The file is in your main M2TW folder. It's called medieval2.preference.cfg.

    Aye, that's where I've been looking...I don't seem to have the file though. I have a "Advice", "Keys", & "Player" file...none of which contain any of the information pertaining too the files listed in the OP. Hence my confusion...

    If you're running Vista or Windows 7 it will likely be in the virtual store.

    If you have the files "Advice", "Keys", & "Player" then you are in the "preferences" folder:
    C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\preferences

    The .cfg is in the main m2 folder;

    C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War

    Is it possible to enable saving battle replays in historical battles?

    Not exactly what you're looking for (I guess, you seek for a solution through the .cfg), but here's an alternative method for campaign battles, maybe this can also work for historical ones:

    I'm having the same problem some people had during the early life of this thread : I can't produce the error log I know the .cfg switching works cause I've tested it with other options. However, I've copied-pasted the line given in the first post in my .cfg file, and it doesn't work. I see no log in the logs folder. I tried to change a few things here and there but nothing works. So my question is : how do you get your log file to appear? And also, can you see it as soon as the game starts or do you have to quit the game to make it appear? Thxs in advance

    Never mind I did it by myself.

    In case others are interested, the problem was that both instructions were on the same line.
    So the correct input is :
    [log]
    to = logs\system.log.txt
    level = * trace

    I fired up medieval II again now on my new computer but all it says in my preference file is
    [video]
    widescreen=0
    [game]
    allusers=1
    Where do i find all the other commands( I have windows 7, so that might be the issue)

    Okay, ideally you need to get a new config file from somewhere, I think there is one on the disk. Copy it over into the main medieval directory then set it as 'read only' by right clicking on the file, clicking on properties in the drop down menu, checking the 'read only' box and then clicking apply. Don't worry about windows 7, the config file works fine, I have windows 7 and have done a lot of modding with no problems. However, if you unpack the game, apply patch 1.3 first as unpacking with 1.3 causes problems as it doesn't unpack properly (at least it didn't for me).

    The config file is already in Program Files/SEGA/medieval II total war folder, if you make any changes to it make sure you set it is 'read only' by right clicking on the file, clicking on properties in the drop down menu, checking the 'read only' box and then clicking apply.

    If you are getting into modding I would use a mod switch as detailed here:

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=75819

    This separates your modded files from the main directory so that if something goes wrong you don't have to reinstall the game.

    Problems with Hotseat.. Help if someone knows how to ...

    Ok, i'm playing in hotseat mode with 3 factions in Broken Crescent 1.05 --> Broken Crescent Kingdoms submod..
    All is ok, in my config file hotseat.autoresolve_battle=0.. my faction Kingdom of Jerusalem is sieging Antioch (owned by Rebels) and i decide to wait to build some siege equipment.. when i choose end turn, all other factions (controlled by AI) make their move.. then is Rebel Turn : the army besieged sallies but i can't fight the battle (my KoJ Army attacked by AI Rebs army) because it is autoresolved .. i'd like to play also in battles where the player controlled factions are attacked by an enemy army at the end of the turn..
    I remember that in a multiplayer SS 6.1 campaign i had a config file that allowed that.. but i can't find that config file on my pc...
    I greatly appreciate if someone can suggest the right solution to my problem...
    Thanks, jackal263

    This is a modding trick that u are asking and has nothing to do with .cfg file.
    For this u have to mod the core text files of the game to increase and decrease the smoke that pops out of cannons and guns etc.
