    Default Some beginner questions

    Hi,

    1. Is there a "Britons" faction present in Roma Surrectum II? I quite frankly think there should be one, so I might be missing something(i.e. didn't install the mod properly)
    2. When I try to launch the game, no matter which option I choose the launcher just freezes for a moment and closes, and nothing else shows up. The thing is, I installed the mod directly into the Rome Total War folder (E:\Games\Rome - Total War is where I installed it).

    Thanks

I can only answer #1; and that's a no. The faction present in britannia is Belgae. These are the ancient belgians obviously and they have a foothold in present day England. As far as i'm concerned: yes I think there should be a "britons" faction indeed. Even if that means deleting for example the spartans. (which are awesome ofcourse, but perhaps as a swap faction, not when on a Roman campaign. The second question, you should install the mod in a copied map of your total war directory.

No - it's the 'Belgae' as noted above - very similar indeed as to culture and range of units.

Now then - why should there be a 'Britons' faction (given the number of factions available to RTW is very limited)?

What impact did the Britons have on the world at the time?

Roma Surrectum 2 is a "roman oriented" mod, reflecting ancient cultures and tribes that the romani encountered. Since sparta was a mere shadow of its former glory during the time of the roman republic and conquest of Greece, and only one city state, I would say the so called "britons" had a greater impact on roman history (boudicca, caesars invasion, hadrians wall etc) than the spartans.

It's a matter for debate actually, but I wanted to comment on the OP because I thought it was a right observation

At least it isn't another Baktrica thread. I've also seen Numidia pop up

To your second question: If you have Windows 8, or 8.1, you must delete Windows Update KB 3086255 which is blocking your game to start.
    Good luck.

Anyone else thinks that the Belgae are a bit overpowered? I planned to invade France after the Marian Reforms and fight against the Averni. But the Belgae tribe already conquered all of France long before the Marian reforms, leaving Averni with only one settlement.
Now before the second rebellion started I gave the Averni some of my rebelling settlements for free.

I would have to say that RSII is definitely NOT a strictly 'Roman' mod, although there is understandably a lot of emphasis on that most popular faction. RS1.6 WAS very Roman centered, but in building RSII, there was a monstrous amount of effort put into the units and history of all other factions.

As for the factions that were selected, our team had an overall guiding principle that RSII was to be 'as historical as possible', but also fun to play. So you could say that Sparta was added under the 'fun to play' part of our goals. The Britons were not a popular faction, nor was Numidia...so they were excluded. With only 20 faction slots, you have to make compromises, and sometimes the way we compromised isn't liked by others. We did, however, build RSII with a LOT of leeway towards adding what we called 'swap factions'. Using Sparta and the Free barbarians (the old Thrace faction), we were able to add Capua, Bosporan, Bithynia, Massalia, Syracuse and Galatia. In the future, I will likely add 'Athens' (already started on that), and really, almost any faction could be added that is within the bounds of our map....which includes the Britons and Numidia. It's just a matter of how many people want those factions.

#2. I know this may be a bit late but if you have still not got rtw running try this solution. First though I assume you are using the dvd disc version, RS II is broken in steam, . Copy your Rome etc directory from where you have it into a new folder in your c:/drive and rename it RSII mod or something you like, install RS 2.5 and 2.6 patch into that folder. Now use my solution. I used this on Win 7 successfully, not sure if it will work on Win 8/8.1 but no harm in trying, but this definitely does NOT work on Win 10 you need a different solution>> 1) go to desktop and click on start and type cmd in the search box 2) r/click on cmd choose "run as admin" click yes to agree to pc changes 3) a box will appear > type this exactly > sc config secdrv start= auto > press enter > 4) type this exactly > sc start secdrv > press enter, close and try your game
