    Icon5 Bare Geomod Question

I can get "regular" GeoMod to work. I had difficulty discovering how, until I realize that, in the launcher, I have to go from GeoMod to MTW2 files and select the expansion I want to launch it in.However, I installed Bare GeoMod. When I try to launch it, it launches Medieval II. The Medieval II loading screen comes up, then closes down, and shuts down the program . I am rather poor with technology, so I apologize if the answer is really obvious.I do request aid.

Have you made any changes to bare geomod, and which version are you using?

Firstly, I have not made any changes to Bare Geomod, at least not any that I know of.In addition, I should have specified the version I downloaded! My "regular" Geomod is Geomod 0.6.18 EN which can be found here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...7#post3894857I downloaded Bare Geomod version 2.02 which can be found here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...13#post7203913

In addition to the other info, I suppose it is also important to say that I play Medieval II on Steam.

Ok, just to verify, your trying to launch Bare_Geomod(not open it with Geomod) you have steam loaded and use the executable.bat in the mods/Bare_Geomod folder?
If this is all correct, go to your "medieval ii total war/logs" folder and open the M2TW.system.log.txt
It should be fairly small, so you can just post it here. Please put it in a 'spoiler' wrap :
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Click 'go advanced' highlight the log text and select the 'Wrap {spoiler} tags around selected text' it's the red box with an ! in it. Use 'Preview Post' to check if the log is properly in the spoiler
Sorry if you already know all that, but I see you've only got 7 posts, so I assume you are not familiar with this forum

Well, let me say one more thing first: I launched the "Bare Geomod" shortcut on my desktop (launching the .bat does the same thing as clicking the shortcut). When I do that, it launches Medieval II: Total War, which immediately crashes. If you know what I mean by what I just wrote, is the log still wanted?

The manual I wrote for Geomod will come handy, it also describes how to correctly open a mod to work with it: select the mod's main folder, eg mods\Bare_Geomod

When Bare Geomod opens it will use the default splash screen, at this stage you cannot determine if it is the vanilla version or Bare Geomod. If you like to know it at that stage then you will have to add a suitable splash.tga file to BG's data\menu folder.
Once the menu is available you will see the "Bare Geomod" labeling.

Bare Geomod has been steam compatible for a while now and should start by simply clicking\running it from the desktop shortcut. I have seen reports in the technical workshop that Steam sometimes (operating system dependent) requires the editing of a launch command - I can't recall the details and it may only concern RTW.

When you install Bare Geomod the install path has to end in the Medieval II Total War folder, nowhere else. This will result in the correct directory (...\Medieval II Total War\mods\Bare_Geomod). I did a test installation right now and it installs and runs as it is suppose to on my disk installation.

Edit: An immediate crash often indicates a wrong installation - please right click BG's desktop short cut, choose properties and then copy the 'Target' entry here.

I do not get to the menu, though. Bare Geomod Crashes immediately after it shows the splash-screen. My Bare Geomod is installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\Bare_Geomod, so it should be installed properly. I will post the logs in just a minute... perhaps that will help?

This is the Target entry: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\Bare_Geomod\Executable.bat"

That is the correct installation path.
If you start the mod with the desktop shortcut or BAT file then you will find the log in the medieval ii total war\logs folder. Should the folder not exist then start BG once more, sometimes the log doesn't get generated.
The log should have a substantial size, please compress it before uploading (7Zip is freeware)

Just to confirm that it is not a general error: can you start other mods?

Alright... I will have to get back to you tomorrow on this. My apologies, but the problem -may- be something on my end. I will attempt to rectify it. If it is to no avail, I shall return. Thank you for your time.

    M2TW.system.log.txt

So, I reinstalled Medieval II... I can get other mods, such as the "Deus lo Vult" mod to work. I still, however, cannot get Geomod to work. Above is a copy of what my log says in entirety. Most important, methinks, are the last lines, as they refer to errors with Bare Geomod that I know not how to correct.

    12:39:38.022 [script.err] [error] Script Error in mods/Bare_Geomod/data/export_descr_unit.txt, at line 9887, column 1

I am a bit puzzled - the game is looking for an entry in the modeldb file. The model it is looking for should be a default\vanilla one and thus available from the pack files.
Here is the relevant EDU entry:
    Code:
    type ME Archer Militia
    dictionary ME_Archer_Militia ; Archer Militia
    category infantry
    class            missile
    voice_type Light
    banner faction main_missile
    banner holy crusade
    soldier ME_Archer_Militia, 48, 0, 0.8
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, can_withdraw, free_upkeep_unit

    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 5, 1, arrow, 120, 30, missile, missile_mechanical, piercing, none, 25, 1
    ;stat_pri_ex 0, 0, 0
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 2, 1, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_simple, piercing, knife, 25, 1.8
    ;stat_sec_ex 0, 0, 0
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 0, 1, 0, flesh
    ;stat_armour_ex 0, 4, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, flesh
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 0
    stat_ground 1, 1, 0, -1
    stat_mental 3, normal, untrained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 220, 100, 65, 50, 220, 4, 50
    armour_ug_levels 0, 1
    armour_ug_models ME_Archer_Militia, ME_Archer_Militia_ug1
    ownership egypt
    ;unit_info 2, 5, 1
    Two possibilities:
    1. The marked entries have custom models that are not supported by the modeldb file - check that entry in export_descr_units.
    2. The modeldb file is custom and does not contain that model - do you have a modeldb file either in Bare Geomod or the main game?
Main game - medieval ii total war\data\unit_models\battle_models.modeldb
Bare Geomod - medieval ii total war\mods\Bare_Geomod\data\unit_models\battle_models.modeldb

Note: some mods install files into the main directory which then override the default files in the packs. I am suspecting this to be the case and think you will find a modeldb file in the main game. If you have not edited BG's EDU file then just temporarily remove that modeldb file and try Bare Geomod again - it should work now.
One of your other mods should now crash with a similar message - simply copy that modeldb file then into the mod's directory.

This is very odd. I think the "ME" in the archer's name you mentioned refers to "Middle Earth." I will delete the relevant data folders in an attempt to purge my folders of the content. This is odd that it kept that, as I even uninstalled and re-installed the game! I shall return.

Fixed! I simply purged the strange third age stuff from my folders. Thank you for your help and you time!

One is glad to be of service

Rule of thumb: mods should only install stuff into their dedicated folder (where no other mod will be affected) and NOT into the main directory. There are rare exceptions but they usually state clearly why.

This is the default entry in BG's CFG file:

    disable_arrow_markers = 0

If set to zero then the green arrows will show, in this case the mod's entry will override the main game's CFG file entry. Simply set BG's value to 1, that will remove the arrows in BG as well.
