    Default Unit Cards Cause Crash

    I've gotten this random CTD several times while testing the Beginning of the End Times mod. Everything works fine for awhile until I start viewing units. Once I do this, the buttons to exit out of the unit info panel will sometimes look like random snippets of the unit info image. Then the game CTDs soon after when I try to exit the scroll. This has happened a few times, and I was wondering if this was a known bug, and if there's a fix? Thanks!

    Several mods will do that after playing many turns without a reboot. Say you're playing a marathon run of ten hours on a Saturday, lots of mods will display random UI nonsense. That's why saving frequently is recommended. A save during the glitch is often corrupt.

    It's the M2TW memory leak bug.

    Save as soon as you notice it, quit (it often CTDs when you quit) and reload and it should be fine.

    I've never noticed this corrupt saves.

    As you say, "Save as soon as you notice it...", otherwise even the save is corrupted.

    Make a habit of saving before battles as that map coordinate may be fantastic for custom battles. Save at the end of turns.

    Since most players don't play long periods of time, they won't see it.

    On the first occasion I notice that I save and exit to desktop, then reload. Nothing else you can do, it's just a matter of (short) time until your game crashes otherwise. Quintus points to the correct cause.
    I have encountered corrupt saves done during prebattle but not with this - didn't really have many of those UI glitches.

    If his UI files are from CoW then he has a problem - they only provide valid SD files - the XML files are vanilla\non existent and converting back from SD format is painful. The additional TGA files (3 shared, 3 strategy) are fairly big - one having just a few faction symbols on a 512*512 file.

    Hmmm, I may try swapping in some working .sd and .tga files from one of my other mods to see if those work better. This issue is one I haven't encountered outside this mod, and it can be replicatable by clicking certain things at the campaign start...

    Edit: Specifically, when I right-click to get unit info on 5 units in a row it CTDs. No idea why this is, but it happens every time and doesn't appear on other mods.

    i don't know if this fix the problem,but i had the same problems in another mod,i was doing some text changes in the export_buildings text file,in the text folder.

    it seemed a had some words put in parts that schould have none,like here;

    when i started a new game i have not 1 ctd when i clicked on the pictures our the info buildings cards,units,maybe it was this that solved the problem,but i had the same time some updates from windows 10,so the update windows 10 can be the reason too,just let you know,you never knows

    edit:and i saved the export_buildings file with notepad ++

    5 units in a row - are those in random order or does it crash on a particular picture? If it's a particular then it could be the picture format (non RGB) or some strange formatting inth export_unit file as stevie indicates.
    The text formatting (if invisible) can maybe be fixed by opening the file with notepad, making a small edit and remove it (add a letter and remove) - then save.

    OK, this is really weird. It seems related to particular buildings being present in the settlement. Very strange...

    Edit: Fk it, I just deleted the UI folder and replaced the whole thing with my AOPK work. Now just gotta do the tedious bit and replace everything?

    Edit2: Removing all the unit cards/info images will prevent the crash, but having them causes it. Not sure why this is though...

    If a building tree doesn't have a name entry in the text file then crashes may occur if the building browser is open. Might be worth a follow up.

    Doesn't seem to have an effect. Still, I have no idea how now having unit cards or info images could fix it... They all appear to be exported correctly...

    The small unit\building pics will cause a crash if they are not of the same size due to them being displayed at the same time. That does not matter to the big (info) pics.
    A crash reason that applies to both is a wrong format - eg grayscale (Targa Type 11) or indexed (Targa Type 9). The correct format is RGB (Targa Type 10 or Type 2). You can see the format type in the browser folder preview if you select the picture.

    what i now see is that i had with the ctd's by clicking on some unit cards,sometimes after awhile sometimes sooner,and clicking some buildings info cards.i had big letters like i see here one page 1,like names with big letters,the game quotes where too in big letters,but now mine names letters are smaller and the words of quotes are smaller too and i have no ctd's more,maybe this have something too do with it,but i don't know how i changed that one

    Did you do anything with the data\fonts folder? Or changed the menu\menu.lnt file?

    it is very strange;i have two mods that are the same,the only difference is that they got other units in,in one mod i have small words\letters with quotes and character names,no cdt's.and in the other mod i have big letters\words with quotes and character names, and again no ctd here,i did not notice this untill today.so it got too be some words in the wrong place in the buildings text file,our it is windows 10 update that is helping me too have no ctd's.

    and yes Gigantus you where wright, the different text where becausce there where different font folders in the two mods.

    edit:i thought the font folder had something too do with the settlements on the battlefield but i was completly wrong.
