how to make money

I was wondering how to make money, because after a while, when i get a reasonable big army, all my money goes to armyupkeep, even though i have around 15-20 regions and ports, markets, shipwarft , etc etc.. in every one of them + trade agreements with 4-5 factions.
I've seen screenshots here with people that have +100k florins in their
treasury.. how the ******* do they do it?
Do i just have to conquer more regions?
I usually play with medium/medium difficulty
I am thankful for any advice.

go for sea trade, this is imo the key. therefore, cut the number of castles, especially on the coast. take those islands and equip them with al the sea-trade structures you can.

build cheaper troops. build troops just to dispand them after battle if you are not going to use them for at least 4 turns. rely on militia that you can put into towns for free upkeep between battles. every once and then, go raiding your neighbours, but go with a cheap army.

in sum: no lazy soldiers and a lot of sea trade will do.
