Incest...Mission?!

I started a vh/vh russian campaign and i'm probably about 30 turns in and I just got a mission. Apparently Prince mikhail(44) wants to marry his neice princess ekaterina(18). I've tried but I can't get those two together..kinky russians. Anyone else have an incest mission? seems kinda pointless to me caus it doesn't work.

I married off two of my cousins in my English campaign. I felt kinda dirty doing it, but her charm was zero and she had "secret lover" retinue so I figured she'd be best used as a loyalty increaser

It might be sick nowadays, but please, this is the medieval age, and at the time, incest was rather common.
And you have to understand that the meaning of family nowadays does not apply for those days.
At the time, "family" was just a name and - above all - a simbol of power or lineage.

It did not matter if they were blood related, as long as he/she was entitled with another "family" name, he/she was of another family
In fact, pretty much of all Europe was ruled by one HUGE family. There were inter-country marriages, some of the women being related in blood to the men. And vice versa.

Thus the high rate of crazed or insane monarcs.
I'll tell you, Spain - Portugal and Portugal - Spain marriages between nobility was so very common, that Spain and Portugal nobility was pretty much one family with the same genetics. Just diferent last names.

(I'd like to think of Spanish as brothers, I kinda like their "woo-hoo" culture [Except certain... Behaviours, but I shouldn't whine. Here is the same. *Sighs.*], but alas, that's quite impossible. I never got so insulted as I was when I spent a week in Sierra Nevada. =p )

On the topic again... No, I have not met a incest mission yet, only to marry one Spanish bribed generals to one of my kings daugthers since he asked for it.

Quite the contrary. In times when the Roman Catholic Church had a much stronger grip on society's values, incest was very much frowned upon. It may have happened, but it wasn't encouraged in any way at all. If anything, the Medieval sense of the family was much stronger than our own, and kinship bonds were extremely closely held. It's true that there was a lot of inter-marriage, but only really across national borders. The people of the Middle Ages would not have approved of something like this - i.e. an Uncle wanting to marry a niece who had the same family name as well as blood.

I see your point, but to say that blood ties didn't matter at all in the Middle Ages is just wrong.

Let me explain my view.
I meant blood ties in a european view, not country one. If it did matter in the way I speak, maybe then the intra-country marriages would not have occured.

And I beliave such marriages happened between nobility of the same country, I read it in a book of some sorts.
Hmm... I can't remember, but I guess it was about a French noble asking the hand of a four years old nephew, and such request being accepted... Then when she got in the age (14 years.) to do the act (Sex was kinda like a stamp that said "aproved." If no sex ever occured, divorce could happen in certain circustances. It happened in my country history and I do beliave it probabbly happened somewhere else.) the man was too old for anything to happen.

I can't remember the tittle, but it was a book of a anthropological view of medieval times (My sister studies Anthropology, and she sometimes gives me a book to read a certain page about a funny fact that happened in history or about sociaty.) and that example was there.

Incest was a common practise back then because royalty aren't going to marry commoners, so they'd marry other royalty, or their relatives.

I can't get princesses to marry with other faction's generals. The charm is 0 and they sometimes acquire the "secret lover" trait, which makes their charm -1 .

I don't understand this since the unit card shows very pretty ladies , how can they not have charm?

Anyways, I married one of my princesses to one of her distant relatives just to see if marrying general's worked at all. It basically worked 100% if you marry them within your faction, but it is next to impossible to do so outside the faction.

Ya there are only so many familys that can claim nobilaty, why they get to and others don't is beond me, so eventualy you will end up seeing a prince marying one of his many relitives from France why not. They have diferant sir nams so that made it ok for them, asid from that they only shiard like a tenth of the blood relations like that, only rarely did you see them marying their sister or mother as that was generaly fround apon. Evin a President of the US maryed his cousen, it was Rosavelt and his wife was related to him by a marge a long time previous and they did not figure that out till after the marge.

Yes, same happened to me except one of my young family members, 19 years old, fell for a another one of my young family members, 22 years old. The 19 year old was an outstanding General, so I said, what the hell, and married him to the princess.

Kinda creepy, but they were what, like 7th cousins.
