    Default Try this test out...

Set up a custom battle with one unit of armoured sergeants on each side (France vs England), both with full level-9 experience so they don't rout easily.

Fight the battle on the grassy plain battlefield so that neither side has any advantage.

Try this battle several times on 'easy' and several times on 'very hard'. Try different combinations of tactics such as guard mode, charging at the enemy unit... Whatever you want.

Now, do you find that you lose every single time regardless of the difficulty level or what you do on the battlefield?

I tried this about fifteen times using different combinations and I lost every single time.

...And in every battle but one it was my general who got killed!

    Needs patching?

You ask for steak, I bring you fish. You say that you think steak is better than fish. I say that fish is much more popular than steak so obviously it's better. You say that no matter how good the fish is it can't be better at being steak than the actual steak we used to serve. I say that's just your perception and you're entitled to it but you should accept that fish is the future and that's good. You begin to say something but I stab you in the eye with a fork and run into the kitchen.

Perhaps not. However, I simply wanted to test the difference between 'easy' and 'very hard' so I ensured that both units were identical, on a flat battlefield and that they engaged each other head-on. The only variables were:

    • Difficulty setting
    • Guard mode/normal mode
    • Charge the enemy/let them charge you
I don't see why I lost to the AI every time if the conditions were equal. It makes no sense.

i noticed this too, but during gameplay, where my heavy infantry would get beat up by units they definitely shouldn't be getting beaten by. (Archers, light infantry, pikemen, etc. ) Something is either wrong or is drastically changed from RTW. It should be alot easier for, say, dismounted fuedal knights to take out town militia. But its a pain, and I loose alot of guys. Not cool CA, not cool. I suspect that this is related to the animation system or the unit cohesion thing.

I've tested regular spear militia on Easy and the Very Hard. It seems to make no difference, the outcome is rather random

Town militia for one seem to enjoy a very robust morale. I have attacked them from all sides with experienced heavies and the buggers just won't break! I mean I normally defeat them but holy cow I get beat up something fierce.
