    Default Worst Desertion

I'm playing HRE on Vh/VH. Desertions never really bothered me, usually I only had single militia units out alone deserted and becomming rebels.

Well, I just got a kick in the butt. I sent my eastern army's cavalry forces back to retrain.

    This consisted of:
    1x 8 experience Imperial Knights
    3x 7/8 experience Teutonic Knights
    2x 9 experience Gothic Knights
    1x 7 experience Reiter.

They retrained all nicely, then I sent them back to the eastern front. Should've taken 2 turns to reach the front (gota love paved roads). After the first turn they deserted. Those 9 exp gothic knights are probably the strongest units on the damn map and they all turned rebel. This is a really harsh lesson to always put a general on my travelling units Took quite a few battles to build up all that experience.

aaah but it can be fun to try and deal with the problems that crop up without reloading other times i agree, multiple saves is helpful

that army might just give you a run for your money

I didn't even notice they rebelled. I got a message Captain Random turned rebel and I ignored it. Then I was wondering why my cavalry hadn't arrived with my main stack, then I went searching. Lo and Behold Captain Random is sitting there as a random stack with some monstrously powerful cavalry.

    Damnit

Yeah. I had similar problem once. Experienced reinforcements going rogue on their way to frontlines. Costly to eradicate... Thankfully I never seem to have lack of generals to move troops around.

Wasnt so much the army i lost it was the situation it left with me,

Crusade onroute to Jerusalem when i got excommunicated crusade disbands leaving the king of england in the middle of asia minor without an army! fortuantly i had a bit of money so i hired a mercenary army to escort him through turkish byzantine hungarian german and milanese territory back to marseille. I thought about conquering my way back but realised id never be able to support the upkeep for long plus id never be able to reenforce them if they got in trouble

I've had the same problem, it seems to happen more in the middle to the end of the game. I never see it happen in the begining of the game. Wierd bug.

    @yeoman
i had a full stack (no general) deserting in turn 20something, played as sicily. they where my first real army, waiting to be shipped to africa. it was a grim pleasure eliminating them to the last man as soon as i could. when the commander then announced that they had not been given any mercy since they deserved none, i nodded in front of my computer.

I have had 100% desertion from a full stack crusading army. It takes too long to sail from London to Jerusalem I'm afraid. Next time I'm going to march through bloody France and set sail from Toulouse.

I find it best to hold off joining a crusade until the last minute. Sure, it takes longer to get there, but you don't suffer the desertion.

You have to wonder why knights would desert you without a compelling reason. You'd abandoning your liege like that would result in the confiscation of all your property, so unless it was another faction that offered them greater rewards, it is absurd that they should just turn like that.

Not my worst but I've seen what happened to the Venetian AI on my vh/h English campaign. Two full stacks of silver chevron xbow/cav/spear militia rebeled in the same turn. Next turn, I sieged and took Milan and Genoa from them. ^^

Never had units desert on me yet...(much too afraid to)

newer ever join the crusade before your are ready to go towards target or else some will disband.
and use as much of your movement as you can towards the target or they quit fighting for you as well.
I think its rather amusing that you guys are getting into so much trouble.
I tried it once(lost 4 units huscarls) and decided never to try it again. And haven´t yet.
