Default Campaign Timelapse - A Roman Empire !?

    Hey guys,

I don't normally post my videos on forums or mod pages, but I felt like I had to do it with this one.
Some of you might have seen my Campaign AI in Action or Campaign Timelapses series. Basically videos were I let the Campaign AI do it things to demonstrate its strenghts and weaknesses.

With the recent Divide et Impera updates I thought it would be cool to make a video for this mod again. And something happened that I had never seen before... A Roman Empire.

Thanks for this mod. It's truly amazing.

I finished my Iceni campaign a few weeks ago.
I spent the first 90 years wrestling Gaul and nearer Germany from the various tribes.
When I attacked the Romans around 197 BC they had basically their entire empire sans Gaul.
They had all of Italy, most of Spain, all of Africa, all of Egypt, all of Syria, the entire Balkans and Greece, all of Asia (minor) and were slugging it out with tons of full stacks with the Parthians over Mesopotamia.
Honestly the only reason I was able to conquer the western half of the empire and win was because they were completely distracted.
By the way, full stacks of dual silver chevron armored legionaries and first cohorts are hard as hell to break. Was a brutal campaign and well worth the time. Was VH/N by the way.

Interesting to see how the Selecuids are still present. Especially as users reported them being wiped out everytime.

I often see what happened here between the Seleucids and Egypt - they end up with a pretty stable border, despite being at war the whole game. Every now and then, one of them will lose or gain a territory, but it takes a while to see anything happen. I don't really think that's a problem, just an observation. Also cool to see Parthia and the Iceni expand in that game.

I've been playing an Arverni campaign and have been surprised and impressed at how tough and resilient the Roman threat has been. Their armies are extraordinarily tough to break, and they seem to be attempting to expand in multiple directions.

I have had to use quite a bit of diplomacy to get the other Gaulic Celts to fight with me or confederate to face the Roman menace and their Sweboz allies. It's become a grand Celtic war, with me, Namnetes and the Nervii on one side and the Romans and Sweboz on the other! Now, just to make things more chaotic, the Iceni also decided to attack us all from the north as well!

Edit: after watching your video again, I noticed that Epirus had a collection of settlements in the Eastern Caucasus? Any idea how that happened? I've never really seen Epirus expand before.

Epirus have a tendency at least in my games to use their good relations with Macedon to take out Sparta and Athens. As you can see in the timelapse Macedon and Epirus dont attack each other and keep their initial starting provinces.

Yes, Epirus sided with the Macedonians during this entire campaign. For some reason they decided to sail to the east and capture a few settlements there. Pretty cool!

I will agree with the OP. It seems its no longer a genocide of nations in the first 50 years with regions changing hands like no tomorrow.

For the first time in Rome 2's History I pulled out of a battle when I saw that the victory would be too costly and the enemy would cut me down in the next turn. The minor factions are stopped in their tracks by major empires a lot faster and I no longer face a BOII super empire in central Europe. (what's with them anyway?).

Greece is still greek and sparta despite being at war with Epirus is still hanging on. You really work hard for your empire ... will share some screenshots. Great post1 !

One odd thing is, since 1.1 I have never had Rhodes or Knossos be passive. I ally with them early on as Rome, and any time I am at war with anything in Greece or Anatolia, and sometimes as far as cisalpine gaul, both start sending their stacks to support me. It's pretty neat, though, unfortunately the first stacks are generally comprised of almost nothing but militia hoplites. Very few Cretan archers or rhodian slingers to be found, despite where they are coming from.

They're almost always passive in my campaigns, for what it's worth. I guess their behavior might be different if you ally with them early on, but I tend to stop at trade agreements. They're usually content to stay on their islands without any player action. Also since they don't have their own versions of those units (do they?), they've still got to wait for level 3 buildings for the AOR Cretans and Rhodians, or spend money on the mercenary versions. The AI probably just goes for the basic skirmisher units instead.

I'm almost positive they have roster versions of them, because I've seen them being used without the mercenary or aor flag on the unit card. Of course, that means they'd likely require a barracks, and every once and a while one, or both of them won't build a barracks.

I know Rhodes has a roster version for Macedonian wars, and I thought we ported it over to grand campaign as well. Perhaps not.

Funny for me Syracuse captured Knossos and the other one was conquered by Carthage ... I really like sharing our stories. Seems no playthrough ever is the same!

    Carthage, expanding across the sea?!

Man I wish this would happen in mine.

The most I ever see them do is take Syracuse if I ignore Syracuse's plea for help, and take maybe one city in Iberia if the tuerdentani don't take it first.

Carthage seems to be more alive in the latest version. As Rome I didn't go to war with them and they decided to go after Spain succesfully. That's 60 turns into the game.

I also had a very long war with the alpine tribes which never was the case before. Damn those bloody Raeti warbands. They really made me work hard.

I have seen Carthage capture Apollonia, Sparta, Athens and Larissa once. Amazing campaign that was.
