    Icon1 Blue/grey spikes on the battlefield

    Hi there

    As the title say i have a graphic problem with my medieval 2 total war version(gold edition with kingdoms on steam).
    This problem shows up when i usually have installed mods or an unclean medieval 2 folder with mod files/folders left because as far i can see after a lot of tests with a clean vanilla's install the problem doesen't shows up.
    Basically when i go for a normal or siege battle very often this Blue/Grey spikes appear on the battlefield,here a screen and a video of the problem:

    At the time of the screenshoot and the video i had windows 8.1 but now with windows 10 the problem is still the same.
    Here my specs =
    -Sapphire Radeon R7 265
    -RAM 8 gb
    -CPU AMD AM3+ FX-6300 6 core

    I really don't know what to do becasue i actually don't understand what is the problem that cause this bug,anyone that had my same problem?

    Is the video you posted showing a vanilla campaign, or a mod?

    Have you tried changing the in-game graphics settings? If yes, was there any change at all?

    The video was from an unclean vanilla with mods folders/files left and at that time i thought the bug was related to that fact,but actually it turn out that this bug shows up also in clean vanilla or mods.
    For the graphic im set on high and i actually don't know if changing them can help my situation cause i don't know what is creating this bug because it can appear in every kind of battle but not always and that's the strange thing that make me crazy because in this way i can't understand if this bug is related to some specific battlefield or unit or is totally random!
    And consider that the video was made before a formatting so we can exclude hidden files left in my pc.

    Have you got an error log? It might give us some clues. See this thread for how to configure error logging (it's very simple). Then you'll have to play for a bit until the error crops up, at which point something will hopefully be recorded in the log.

    It seems likely that the issue is related to a specific grass texture, which is why it wouldn't appear all the time, but only in battles of a certain climate and ground type, which differ all over the map. When you next load the game, on the main menu, can you go to Options -> Video Settings -> (tick Show Advanced Options) -> Grass Detail. What level is it set to? Changing this may have an effect, too. But let's start with the error log.

    Ty Frunk where can i find the error log?In the main directory?Also is that thread only for crashes?Because i don't have noone with this bug is only visual.
    I have grass detail on high,i will play next times with grass uncheck.

    ....aaaaaaaaand it turns out it was the grass.I made some custom battle in maps with a lot grass on low-medium-high and the bug shows up everytime exept with the grass option unchecked.Im so happy ty frunk for solving my problem here .
    Still there is something bothering me...i mean:i have a fresh steam clean install of medieval 2 and i miss grass textures...how can it be possible?I also do right now the cache integrity and steam didn't download anything...that's weird!

    Good work! Yeah, grass seemed the most likely culprit just from your video.

    That thread is for crashes, but error logging will record things that don't crash the game, too. You can normally find it in the Medieval 2 Total War/logs folder. It (the folder) gets automatically generated, once you load the game with the .cfg configured as outlined.

    Has the problem always occurred on your computer, with either W8.1 or W10? Has it ever worked with a different operating system (W7), or on a different PC you've used?

    You say you already checked your graphics driver. It may simply be the computer isn't capable of displaying it correctly, or W8.1 and/or W10 has screwed something up. If you manage to get an error log it may reveal something, hopefully.

    Yes on 8.1 or 10 is the same,i can't remember for win 7 but i tried the win 7 retrocompatibility and the bug still shows up so i think is that the system is not the problem.
    I have add the line in the cfg file for the last test but there is nothing exept for this system log:

    I wouldn't be concerned about all those warnings. It just means the game is looking for something, but doesn't necessarily need it.

    I've gone right through it and I'm afraid nothing is really jumping out at me. I'm at a loss as to what to do next, I'm sorry. I still think it's likely a graphics problem.

    I would suggest you take a look at something that changes the grass textures, like DAVIDE's mod here, but I believe the download links would be dead by now.

    No worries pal you already help me a lot and solved my problem and is not like i can't live without grass so we are fine

    Yeah atthias i have already my driver updated and on top of all now after deleting the folder and re-installing the game with a clean vanilla i started a quick battle and there we go again with these spikes!With a clean install!I really don't understand...
