Hey, I was just posting here to make a thread about our W.I.P Population mod. You don't need Ancient Empires to use it, which is why we are also posting it here.
Post follows:
Hey, Causeless here, just reporting that I have created my own W.I.P population mod after a few weeks of effort. This was created for intent to use within Ancient Empires, but we all wanted a more open mod that anybody could use, so we are releasing it ahead of AE as a mod that'll work with the vanilla game.
This mod was written and created independently from Populous and People of Rome, both of which are (currently unreleased) Rome 2 mods. This mod is for Attila, although theoretically it could be easily ported.
Please note. This mod is HEAVILY W.I.P. It's not really playable - it works on some level, but it's not balanced or fun (yet). I'm releasing this early in hopes that the community can balance it, or integrate it into their own mods. The Ancient Empires team is heavily in favour of open development, so we think it's better for the mod community as a whole to release even in this early state. Other modders are free to modify this script and/or integrate it into their own mods.

Planned features:
* Bugfixes
* Naval manpower
* Separate classes of population
* Polish
* More gameplay integration, like more complex growth etc
This will all come in the coming weeks as I work on the mod. I am freely accepting any community contributions.
Note: This script was taken out of our current in-development scripting toolkit, so there may be references in the script to other parts of the toolkit which aren't included. The full toolkit will be released some time later, probably alongside the release of Ancient Empires.

Update 20/01/2016:
* Lots of bugfixes and stability improvements!
* Pretty colours!
EDIT:
Please note that this mod is under development for AE. Progress is slow but not non-existent. For AE we'll have multiple cultures and classes each unit can fall into, as well as more in-depth UI modifications:
