    Default Emergent vsc Existing

Gentleman, I am a fan of your work. From what I see you are doing a great job so far. I have a question though, say I play as Seljuks and time comes, Ottomans emerge. Would I gain the chance to join them / play them etc? If not how will we get to play with emergent? Perhaps different start dates like MTW 1?

Changing your playable faction is only possible through save file editing outside the game - it's not possible on the fly, although maybe someone could script it. I highly doubt that though. It was a pretty easy process in Empire TW (just copy-paste some info), don't know if it's the same deal in Attila. If not, you simply don't get to play as emergent factions, like you don't get to play factions like all the Roman splinter factions (Illyria, Gaul, Septimania etc.) in Attila grand campaign.

Different start dates require double the workload of making one campaign. It is possible, but it's not on the team's agenda right now. Maybe in the future, but I suspect by that time we will have news of Medieval 3.

Another option to make, as you mention it, the Ottomans be playable, is make them "same blood" as the Rum Seljuks, allowing you to invite them to join your empire, but what it will do is just transfer their characters to your court and add their armies to yours, you still would have the Seljuk symbol and colors - although the name of the empire can be changed when you confederate with another faction. Yet another option is to use Age of Charlemagne mechanic of renaming your faction when you complete certain missions or hold a certain amount of territories - that way you could become the Ottoman Empire (or Turkish Empire, or Seljuk Empire, whichever will be deemed appropriate) by conquering and completing missions.

But normally - no, emergent factions are not playable without extra work.

I was wondering this very option. It should be possible to make them same blood and let them confedera into "Ottoman Empire" (Turkish Empire or whatever)

As it historically is, the Ottoman EMPIRE wasn't an Empire on day one It started off as a Beylik and grew into the Ottoman Empire by conquering/joining together with other turkish beyliks.

IMO going for the confederate option is the easyest way of going in the current mod without altering too much. The only issue would be to allow Seljucs to change icon+colours into Ottoman icons and colours after confederating.

This is like having a pie and eating it too

Thanks for the reply mate. I remember the team saying that they will take a separate roster both for Ottomans and mamelukes both of which are emergent and I thought there might be a way of using those units in your play through.

    The AOR system fixes this.

Different start dates is probably the best bet.

Remember that the modding team are creating a map, events, and roster of units to span the period from 1212 to 1453, and potentially longer. So once that is all created it should be easy enough for anyone with modding experience to create a submod which moves the start date to somewhere in the 1300s, changes the startpos accordingly, and potentially changes the TPY as well if required.

There are certainly enough people trying to push for the Ottomans to be included in the 1212 start to develop a submod if they all join together and spend a bit of time in the workshop. And I for one would certainly play a 1300 era submod

Swarbs is pretty much right. When unit rosters are done and the base startpos with factions, emergents and characters is created, it shouldn't be that problematic to change ownership of regions to other factions. Although there probably would be need of new artwork if some new factions were introduced in a different starting date, and research into historically accurate characters would take a good while to complete... But that can be done in the future, when the base mode is in working order.

Only if swapping colours and icons is possible mid-game. I don't think it is - none of vanilla confederations had unique graphics, they just used the colours and symbols of the "parent" faction that did the confederation. This is a cool idea though - perhaps I could try and come up with possible confederations for many factions (like Polish duchies, factions in Spain, Turks, Roman Empire etc.)

Would it be possible to change the standard "Confederation" name? Like.. making the Ottoman Empire into "Beylik of Osman" or something and only unlocking "Ottoman Empire" after it confederates.

I think this would also be a viable option for other factions across. I'm not sure if the "Holy Roman Empire" was around at that time but it would certainly be realistic to have the germanic kingdoms mix into HRE like confederation (this last bit may be historically inaccurate! I'm not sure about the data in this)
