First some history.
The year is 1252
The nobility of Sicily is now divided by four major houses. The de Scylazo, the Canimara, the Savelli, and the reigning house, the De Palma, a legacy of the Rogers along with three others. There are also direct descendants of Roger, through his son Deo, but for some reason, they have been passed over. My most notable generals were Corrado de Scylazo (ten star), who fell in the valiant (and bloody difficult) siege of Djion, and Alberto (the starting general, also ten stars and served as regent for a time). Now Corrados son, Giacinto, has been instrumental in conquering Provence, and launching an expedition into the north.
My king is the young Tizrano de Palma, married in by my daughter. The rightful heir to the throne, Deo and his young son, govern in Naples.
The Savellis reign in Aragon, and the Canimaras rule in Durazzo and Ragusa.
My campaign is going well. I have formed a duchy in Zaragoza and Valencia and the Portugeuse have just finished steamrolling the Spanish. Bordeoux, Marseilles, Djion and Toulouse belong to me and my war with the French is entering a climax. Milan has been lost to rebels and reconquered by the Holy Roman Empire (neutral to me since turn 1)
The pope had launched a crusade against Toulousse and Gelasius the Chivalrous (also known as Gelasius the Crusader) was quick to aquiesce. Djion was passed to me after a war against the Venetians and Milanese alliance, which ended in the Venetian nobility being exiled in Zagreb and the Milanese utterly destroyed. The French have two stacks under Paris, in dangerous proximity to Djion, both under the command of captains (their nobility has been ravaged of late).
My finest army ever mustered, a two stack dream team made up of Chivalric Knights, Muslim Archers, Norman Knights, and Dismounted Norman Knights, is marching north towards the crisis area.......It is the eve of a battle on a scale never before seen and then........
Regicide!!!!
I got a message from the heir of the HRE.
Prince Lothar of the HRE would like to remind you that his Emperor, Emperor Wenzel, gibbers like a rock ape,. Furthermore, we would like you to have the honors of "Taking care of him" so that the rightful ruler of the empire can sit on the throne.
If I get this done for them they will ally with me and pay me 5000 florins.
I've got a man for the job. Nene Odescalchi. A man with a catamite, an equisite blade, and a poisoning set.
As I said earlier, my relations with the HRE are stellar. We having had so much as a skirmish for almost 200 years, and the only periods where trust was scant was during transgressions, moving up around Bologna.
I'd wager that the relations improve exponentially so that the abyssmal hit after the two turns sieging wherever Wenzel is, will go away. Other wise, Regicide is basically a paycheck for a long and bloody war with the very person you put in power, which wouldnt make sense, unless theyre planning on the player having ten ten eye assassins.
I'm not going to take the war course without consideration. The HRE isnt was it used to be but still have friends and two stacks wandering in the alps, along with a full stack in Bologna The Danes have taken all of Germany from them.
The contender to challenge my expansion after the French is Poland.
Thoughts, contributions, anecdotes, and questions are welcome.
