Was that a 1v1 Custom Battle test? They're not very valid as tests go, all sorts of strange things going on that aren't the same with 3v3 or 5v5.

New unit to add to Hemithorakitai for "cheap but effective": Libyan Spearmen. They're a similar kind of unit, multi-role light spearmen.
Also, regular Hoplitai are tanks. Unless they're getting mauled by units with AP weapons, they can survive a ridiculously long time under pressure.
The Libyan spearmen are great. Usually I like heavier units with lots of armor, but the Libyan spearmen are quite versatile and I actually like how they wear the kottybos stomach-band scale mail armor. Offers them some protection in addition to their shields and helmets, but not too burdensome so that they can run around the field effortlessly to address cavalry threats. Ideally a heavy spearman unit that has good stamina would be preferable, though.
The Libyan spearmen need Montefortino helmets. Everyone needs Montefortino helmets.
Agreed, with some minor reservation regarding collision (breastplates stick in chest when marching, swords poke through tighs etc) . The Umbro-Picenians and the Baktrian hoplites hit the jackpot too.
Weird how my list has changed somewhat. Thanks for ressing the thread.
How much armor do those Oscans get for chest hair?
On-topic: I'm really liking Scythian Foot Archers for my Pontos campaign. Anatolian Archers just replenish too slowly, and actually have a lower damage. The Scythians can be bought three at a time from Pantikapaion and Chersonesos. I never leave home without a flanking force of Scythian Riders and a skirmish line of Scythian Archers.
The new Maiotian units were quite the nice surprise as emergency mercenary units. The are now members of the royal force. It's a shame I can't recruit the cavalry in cities. What javelins are they using to get a 20 missile attack?
Some kind of barbed javelin native to the region, I believe.
Peltenai are an all time fave but I have a sweet spot for the Getikoi Stratiotai
When it comes to mercs though, those Cretan Peltasts are rock hard (except they can´t skirmish in 2.3, which is weird, I recall them being able to previously, perhaps I´m mistaken)
In terms of cavalry, Boioi Bodyguards and Thessalian Heavy Cavalry are firmly imprinted in my mind as uber dangerous
Kretikoi Peltastai are not skirmishers, they're heavy infantry. Just like Peltastai Makedones or Peltastai Logades.
My favorite unit is the epeiros hypaspistai. Best looking unit in the mod... and also badass in the stats too. Their shields and armour look amazing. So sad that now with the reforms im running out of them... the thorakitai arent that thrilling!
But also im fighting hayastan in that epeiros campaign, and damn... the dranik gund and the armenian cataphracts look freaking awesome. (specially the dranik gund keeping their shields on their backs while firing and then grabing it to use on melee).
Then, as throngs of his enemies bore down upon him and one of his followers said, "They are making at thee, O King," "Who else, pray," said Antigonus, "should be their mark? But Demetrius will come to my aid." This was his hope to the last, and to the last he kept watching eagerly for his son; then a whole cloud of javelins were let fly at him and he fell.

I'll have to agree that the Epeiros hypaspistai look the best out of the bunch, especially with all those flashy, vibrant colors, like something straight out of an ancient Macedonian tomb painting depicting soldiers. I'll have to disagree, however, about the thorakitai, which is basically the most badass heavy infantry unit the Greeks have at their disposal, and one of the few sporting both iron chain mail armor and iron/bronze muscled breastplates/cuirasses. I love the mounted Hellenistic Kataphractoi for the same reason, with their mixture of heavy armors, including laminar plate armor covering their limbs (i.e. the Greek cheires, Latin manica), suits of chain mail, muscled breastplates, iron or bronze greaves, an assortment of awesome-looking helmets including ones with giant plumes and iron masks.
^ The new Oscan hoplites look great, but something is a bit off about them: do they really only have two face models? It seems like there are only two types of faces you use for the entire unit. Looks weird to me; like a bunch of clones or twin brothers walking around.![]()

What has been seen cannot be unseen.
It's almost as if someone watched Goodfellas one too many times and extrapolated the general look of a bunch of Guido Wop Sicilian gangsters by applying it to the various native peoples of the Italian peninsula during Antiquity.
In that case, I vote that all of them should look like Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro instead.
Now that's an attack of the clones that I can get behind!
Thanks for clearing that one up.![]()

Remember Rome 1, Roma? There's clones for ya!
(I loved every second of that wretched game).
Don't you talk bad about the Tony Shalhoub fandom of the modeler
That's easily 3-4 points of armor from the chest hair alone.
THORAKITAI! Kataphraktoi = <3 I also really love the late Hellenistic Cav. Nabataean Royal Guard, Thracian settlers, Lybian Infantry well pretty much everything out of Carthage, Armenian Royal Guard and Catas. God and the Celtiberians... frack you have to many amazing units to choose from
and btw EB team: For the love of Dusharâ pls give me my Nabataean Hetairoi finally. I hope they are still a unit on the list. This is pretty much the only unit missing for me to give the Nabatu a try in the campaign. No pressure tho....pllllleeeeaaaaseeee!!!

Cladivetai. They look straight coming from Lucan's poem. Great job.
"[...]Ligurian tribes, now shorn, in ancient days
First of the long-haired nations, on whose necks
Once flowed the auburn locks in pride supreme."
