Damn, you must be fun at parties...I was expecting you to write something like that so I ESPECIALLY wrote at the bottom that those are not the sources, just curiosity pictures and you still had "fun" reply ; P Dunno if you noticed in my posts above but I stated that those bactrian coins are rather artistical vision rather then rock solid evidence and we are basically on the same side of the argument.

You have no idea what kind of irrational hatred I have for those lances on peoples back.

I genuinely have an emotional reaction to it.

To even imagine that someone at CA actually thought of it and the idea passed all those devs and entered the game makes me want to hurt people.

There are many, many...... many things (did I mention "many" already ?) in total war games , all of them, that come nowhere near to depicting reality. It might not be entirely realistic to carry a lance on your back while on horse, or on foot, you could probably pass the test when only carrying a short spear. I would like to depict light cavalry units carrying their spears or flags in a saddle pouch or holster of some sort, instead of on their backs, but that is not possible, for now.
We could ofc remove all spears from HA units but some of them having it adds a bit to their versatility.
I would absolutely prefer CA or any mod for that matter fixing the issue of cavalry never dismounting in R2 or Attila (they often did in Shogun 2, so go figure ) over fixing the matter of units being able to carry spears on their backs.
I hear you, and we might end up removing spears from HAs, but there are more pressing matters in total war

Hollywood Rome 2 is a total war game that exaggerates the Romans. Attila Total War exaggerates the Hollywood concept of barbarians burning down Roman civilization... Their sources for the units span a thousand years apart and sometimes the unit names are gross, stupid, and almost ignorant. As soon as I start to build a love for history, I start to dislike the little quirks and add-on the Creative Assembly team conjures making the game more distasteful for me to play without mods (which is why I am a developer now). Though working on a project that requires 3d objects made me appreciate what CA has accomplished. Their games might have been better if SEGA provided another year of funding.

Woah word warriors, lay down your arms. For this is a peaceful forum, and we benefit from posting pictures of illustrations, museum pieces, and Medieval art. We do not really benefit from the argument of what happened in the events of the past.

Deleted a bunch of posts related to the lance discussion. Please don't necro discussions like this again please. I don't care how anyone feels about it, it's tiring to recycle the same debates over and over again. We will try to adjust it at some point, until then deal with it.

Any news on my darling Komnenoi pocket empire? I stand for everyone that isn't that guy ^ by saying I really don't care if lances go on backs or not. Just looking forward to taking Alexios and David back to their grandfather's Constantinopolitan throne

In my opinion, If one of the "Empires" conquers certain provinces and unites all Greek factions it should be renamed to Byzantine Empire and should get access to all units like Varangians, Cataphracts, etc. Because it will be somewhat weird if Trebizond Conquers all the old Empire lands and won't move capital to Constantinople or the emperor won't call himself Emperor of Byzantine Empire instead of Emperor of forgotten province Trebizond.

Well i didn't read the deleted posts and idk what was going on here, i will just write my opinion and some facts. In later period, with the influence of Mongols, Georgian Nobles adopted bows as secondary weapon. They still preferred mounted shock combat, but against certain armies like the mobile Turks they started to use the bow. They didn't have lances attached on back, instead they were holding them for a while before breaking them after the charge. They didn't have bows attached on their backs either. Both would be quite impractical. It was attached to the horse.
I like the units with both lances and bows, but after switching the lance to bow, they should drop it, i guess it should just disappear. And the bow should go back in special sheath on the horse. Is this possible?
Also, can such units also have swords? I guess no.

Here is one good example, just change the ax with long lance.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Nice! If I'm not mistaken the high/late period units are shared among all Byzantine factions right?

Byzantine political theory is pretty consistent in that Constantinople 'Queen of Cities' was the heartland of the empire. Byzantium still existed so long as Constantinople stood as an Orthodox polity. I think it's an exception to what, would otherwise be your generally true, rule.
