Default Requested Features for M2TW Expansion

Post what features you wish to see in an expansion pack for Medieval 2 Total War and be realistic. Let’s hope CA/Sega sees this.

    I’ll start.

    1) When a faction leader dies, it would be nice to see a feature whereby you can physically fight the “battle for the throne” on the battlefield between the two sons of the former faction leader. The battle is between the heir and his brother, and each of them have their own army. In order for this battle to happen, there must be a certain criteria met, such as a low loyalty rating for one of the two sons. The winning son would inherit the throne. The losing son would disappear off the campaign map. Here’s how the dynamics of it would work:

Once the faction leader dies, the player gets to choose which family member he wants to control for the "battle of the throne" that will ensue. Each family member has his own army, and the units in this army compose of units that you’ve actually built within your empire, so if they die during the battle, they will of course disappear from the campaign map as well. The best thing for determining what kind/how many units each family member has under his command would be his traits/ancillaries/command rating/piety, etc. Before the player makes his decision for which family member he wishes to control, the game shows you a breakdown of units for both family members.

The player’s decision would obviously depend on each family member's traits. Ideally he’d want to pick the side of the family member which has more potential for development. For example, the weaker (lower command) family member ends up having 10 units of highly upgraded knights for example, but you don’t want him to inherit the throne since he is the weaker of the 2 family members, yet you don’t dare face him due to his arsenal of knights, which you would also hate to lose on the same token. In my opinion, this would add a whole new element of strategic decision making to the game.

Thanks for listening, now lets hear your ideas!

The feature to kill your own figurines with assassins. (I can see myself creating emissaries just to train my assassins, hahah )

The ability to choose a faction heir.

Im not going to stick this as this seem to be a bif of a fantasy wish list. Especially with your suggestion to have the 2 possible heirs fight each other in a battle.

A few new diplomacy options. "Get off my land" would be a good start.

    Assassinate own units/agents.

Spy that can frame others like in the original MTW.

Titles. The governor/lord shouldn't have to stay in town to actually manage things. At worst, there should be a slight penalty for not being present within the walls.

Along with that last idea, diplomats could take away titles again.

To be able to "hire" lords à là BI for use of governors/commanders without actually being in the family tree. To avoid spamming, CA could always set a limit available at any time like they did for merchants.

Reintegrating "massive" civil wars would be a huge plus. At the moment, I could have a 2 Authority king and not be afraid of rebellion. This stat should really influence public order across the kingdom/empire and loyalty of generals. I shouldn't expect a 1-3 pt authority faction leader getting good support from his entourage. Just having a chain of rebellions when a weak kings gets to power would be good - or the faction has been spanked repeatedly in a few turns. CA could keep such a feature for hard and/or very hard difficulties so to avoid civil war haters from stopping to play. (ouf, long suggestion)

Merchants being a bit more useful (though this should be patched instead of waiting for an expansion).

A few new units would be nice on top of that.

I can't count how many times I've wished for this feature, I can't believe they haven't already put this in their games.

I don't believe this feature was present in RTW was it?

It's not such a fantasy. CA could give the player a choice on who he wants side with (the rebels or the imperialists as seen in MTW) and the other side would just go rebel. Problem solved.

Of course, adding the ability to assassinate your own units (except your actual king, as you are playing as the king you cant necessarily assassinate yourself...) would make this more interesting.

Both of those wouldn't be that difficult to implement tbh.

I agree with Aristocrat, there's even something in the game where a faction leader's son revolts against the heir if he has low loyalty or something. I don't think it'd be that difficult.

If you don't like the idea, remove it from the list, but I think we should have a stickied thread with suggestions for features in an expansion pack.

    1) ... naval battles!
    2) Non-Viking Invasion expansion
    3) Attrition represented officially (not through a script)
    4) Choose faction heir
    5) more strat map features that are carried over to the battle map (lakes, villages, road traffic, devastation represented, and forts that are left unmanned become static objects\ruins)
    6) Make country-side effects e.g. pillage provinces, supply (lower attrition), trade block, preach religion, assimilate province, assimilate population.
    7) Assassinate own faction characters.
    8) AOR (area of recruitment) system for each faction.
    9) Option to assimilate existing buildings rather than destroy or upgrade.
    10) Genetics introduced in the trait system
    11) Unit aging (not only characters)
    12) Slave faction settlements surrender while under siege and join your faction (depends on culture). Also slave armies could temporarily align to a faction if there are two warring factions nearby. This could be similar to mercenary armies and may require tribute or diplomatic arrangements such as protectorate agreement for the province.
    13) Advanced protectorate system, not restricted to single faction but apply to the individual province.

I'd like to see CA return to the region style strategic maps and movement of STW and MTW1. The AI can't manuever competently on the RTW maps, never garrisons his cities adequately, and so on. At least with the region style games the AI could keep up to some extent.

    1. Better moddability.
    2. Better AI (campaign and battle map).
    3. Ability to assassinate your own family members (and own agents).
    4. Ability to choose Faction Heir (or a system of primogeniture that actually works).
    5. Ability to tell AI factions to get the hell out of my lands.
    6. Better diplomacy.
    7. Titles.
    8. 'Recruitable' lords.
    9. Civil wars
    10. More historical accuracy.

Have 'stolen' some suggestions from the previous posters, but I guess the more times they are mentioned the better.

The Byzantines need a complete overhaul. Orthodox Bishops should function as Catholic Cardinals and elect the Patriarch of Constantinople. This would not be entirely historically accurate but somehow the Patriarch of Constantinople needs to be in the game. Allowing the player to assign the title to one of the Bishops would work just as well. I really miss the ability to assign titles.

Something that I really miss from MTW and that they could add is the option of winning by achievements. It did add flavour and atmosphere to the game. Its silly that every nation has to capture 45 provinces as if they have the same motives and standards etc. That way every nation used to have its own strategy.U didn t have just to build a warmachine.I am not sure if it can be achieved but it would worth a try!

Also done in each patch/expansion, goes without saying.

Essential for modders who choose to base their mod on other eras

This is currently a feature not used. (it was left in the code brought over from BI, like phalanx, swimming, ect)

This is not in SEGAs interest, although they try their best to make it accurate for the period, the company needs profit therefore SEGA sacrifice historical accuracy for gameplay for the mainstream players. Most gamers don’t like too much reading, waiting for things to happen, micro-management, ect so we will never see the depth of historical accuracy we desire…

I'd like the feature to be able to annex small parts of provinces into some of your own.

For Example: "Revan Region" is governed by the city of Revan. Outside the city are several resources such as silver. If I send a military expedition into the province I should be able to move the faction borders up to around that silver if I want, so I can get it without taking the city. This makes sense because the way it is now that one city controls everything and everyone in the province, even if it's surronded on all sides by armies and literally trapped. You should also be able to gain a slight tax bonus, agricultural bonus, and population bonus by doing this.
This is similar to my idea (assimilate province/population) and I like how you’ve expanded on that idea. I fully endorse everything you have written.

    1. Boiling Oil (RTW had it, so why not?)
    2. View settlements on the battle map (RTW had it, so why not?)
    3. Naval Battles. (I thought the naval battles in Imperial Glory were pretty cool)
    4. Saracens
    5. Same old: More factions, more regions, more settlements, correct names.

    Here are some more,

*Add ability to View Terrain -- ability to actually view the battlefield your army is sitting on.
*Add ability to choose which reinforcements arrive on the field first
*Add ability to choose a Time Period before beginning campaign
*Add ability to see the range of missile weapons -- example: pressing down 'M' to show range of missiles for selected unit.
*Add ability to bribe merchants -- could add an interesting twist
*Add music on/off Shortcut like in Rome (Ctrl M)
*When finishing a Short Campaign make the victory conditions that of a long campaign if the player chooses to continue playing
*Consider adding a "Break alliance with this faction" demand -- example: "Demand the English break their alliance with the HRE, or else!”
*Add reward/penalty for spreading religion in different lands
*Add ability to marry princesses to other family members besides Kings and Heirs
*Add ability to marry princesses to your own family members -- as in MTW1
*Add ability to free prisoners after offering a ransom that was turned down by the AI. -- example: offer a ransom to the English, but the English refuse. Instead of having to kill the prisoners, give the player the option to release them out of goodwill (could increase relations).
*Add a message pop-up about princesses coming of age
*Add a message pop-up if any one of your agents gains or loses a rank
*Add a message pop-up if one of your priests turns heretic
*Add an icon that indicates when character has the plague
*Remove the gun-tower upgrade before the invention of gunpowder

Guys, if you agree plz express so SEGA can see what the priorities are

I pretty much agree, but I know for a fact there is a pop-up if a priest goes Heretic, or at least if it happens when he's trying to denounce a heretic.

It doesn't happen when he goes heretic after end turn, for example.
