Post what features you wish to see in an expansion pack for Medieval 2 Total War and be realistic. Let’s hope CA/Sega sees this.
I’ll start.
1) When a faction leader dies, it would be nice to see a feature whereby you can physically fight the “battle for the throne” on the battlefield between the two sons of the former faction leader. The battle is between the heir and his brother, and each of them have their own army. In order for this battle to happen, there must be a certain criteria met, such as a low loyalty rating for one of the two sons. The winning son would inherit the throne. The losing son would disappear off the campaign map. Here’s how the dynamics of it would work:
Once the faction leader dies, the player gets to choose which family member he wants to control for the "battle of the throne" that will ensue. Each family member has his own army, and the units in this army compose of units that you’ve actually built within your empire, so if they die during the battle, they will of course disappear from the campaign map as well. The best thing for determining what kind/how many units each family member has under his command would be his traits/ancillaries/command rating/piety, etc. Before the player makes his decision for which family member he wishes to control, the game shows you a breakdown of units for both family members.
The player’s decision would obviously depend on each family member's traits. Ideally he’d want to pick the side of the family member which has more potential for development. For example, the weaker (lower command) family member ends up having 10 units of highly upgraded knights for example, but you don’t want him to inherit the throne since he is the weaker of the 2 family members, yet you don’t dare face him due to his arsenal of knights, which you would also hate to lose on the same token. In my opinion, this would add a whole new element of strategic decision making to the game.
Thanks for listening, now lets hear your ideas!
