Default A new one for ya Zhuge_Liang

This was originally posted this a week ago:

First, thank you for Troy TW. I've been playing it for a few weeks and it's great. I've had the usual issues but I have dealt with those, i.e., shipwright CTD.

    * I've read all the pages of tech. posts and this is a new one...I think anyway.

    My situation:
    1) I had a clean RTW install, BI, and the 1.6 patch plus Troy Gold and THe hot fix. Except for the occasional hiccup, ones noted in the forum, it has run well for weeks.
    2) Installed the newer elite Spartan (the one Zhuge_Liang created a while ago.
    3) The game played well for several game-turns.
    4) in the middle of a battle with the Lycians (i think?) the game CTD. No new Spartan units were involved as I am playing as the Trojans. The first thing I did was replace the new spartan units with the older ones (i backed up my files.)

5)After the first crash that's all it would do was CTD. I NOticed that trying to load any game save or trying to start a new campaign would cause a CTD everytime.
*** More importantly, no BI based game, as several are installed on my PC, would play a campaign, just CTD.

    6) I spent many hours on Saturday trying to find the source. I have some basic experience with modding/skinning. IN the end I had to do a complete manual uninstall. After trying a ****-load of other things that's all that worked. I finally got RTW_BI's campaign to not CTD. THen I got TRoy to work.

    7) At this point I had a fresh install of: RTW + BI + 1.6patch + TRoy gold + Fix + new spartan unit.

    8) As I have about 600 gig in HD space I also created whole back up copies of RTW 1.1, RTW - BI, RTW -BI+ 1.6, and and a copy of TRoy before the spartan unit.

    9) After placing my old save folder in the new TTW the game functioned perfectly and I got to pick up where I left off. Which I'm sure you know is a great relief.

10)***After many hrs of play today (sunday) and many successful "endturns" something went wrong.
a)I hit end turn and I was attacked.
    b) I saved the game at the pre-battle scene. Then I started the battle.Once again I was in a battle, no spartan units were involved. It was just Trojan and Thracian units.
c)After a victory the game just CTD while switching scenes.
    d) now I'm back to where I left off on saturday. JUst like in #5 above the Troy saves and a new campaign cause a CTD. THe BI related game copies I mentioned are also CTD when I try a new campaign. RTW without BI will allow a campaign however.

***I'd rather not uninstall everything again. Does anyone have any ideas or have any suggestions based on what I've mentioned to you? Perhaps there is one file I can delete and recreate in the registry. I feel perhaps it is something base as only a manual uninstall involving deleting files in the registry actually made it possible for RTW_BI's campaign to work again (or anything BI related).

I'm affraid i don't know what is causing this. Do you use the mod switcher?

I have played many turns with the new spartan unit installed and never came across this problem, though with other mods and units i remember somthing similar. I can remember an old EB unit caused this problem for me once but i never fixed it, it just went away on its own after a few restarts of my computer.

In short - i have no idea what is causing this problem. It may sound stupid, but perhaps just try to restart your computer a few times and then try again and maybe run ccleaner.

If you think it is a problem with the spartan unit then delete your current version of RTW & BI, copy over your backups and reinstall troy but not the spartan. Your save games should still work with the old spartan unit.

If somebody else knows what is wrong please enlighten us.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Nope, no mod switcher.

I'm really not even sure it has anything to do with the new spartan unit. When I tried to fix this problem originally I factored out the new unit but I still had problems. I will however avoid the new unit for a while and see what happens.

Should I run the advanced option in CCLeaner?

A standard clean out of the files and registry should be enough. Sorry i can't be of more help.
