Corpse Lake, a medium to large sized lake in the center of Great Wyk, named so for several varying rumors by the smallfolk, is the seat of the cadet branch of the Goodbrothers that rule the province, with their castle being on a the island in the center of the lake along with a small castle town. Two other towns lie on the western and eastern shores of the lake to provide access to the castle for those who do not sail up the larger of the two rivers that flow south from the lake. It is said on nights with a full moon, the dead arise from the depths of the lake or swamp and walk around.
While much of the province is swamp, there are some unique features. In the southern reaches of the province, a large forest dominates the landscape, leading to the rocky coastline of that section of Great Wyk. Some game, plenty of herbs and other plants, along with some trees good for shipbuilding can be found in the forest. Several small paths are used by smallfolk who live either on the coastline or the forest's edge to fish and bring their wares to one of the lake town's markets. The northern part of the province, where the swamp begins to change into hills and rocky terrain of the Hardstone hills, some mining and lumber operations are present, mining the limited ore of the hills and harvesting the wood of the occasional groves of tree for various purposes. Some small farms are present, although not as prevalent as the eastern reaches.
The western reaches of the province are the inverse of the eastern, this is where the swamp is at it's thickest. A small road, in disrepair with some sections consumed by the swamp leads from the western parts of Great Wyk up to the Hammerhorn in Hardstone Hills. However, the swamp here allows for a thriving resin industry, with merchants from the towns selling resin from the swamps across the islands and possibly beyond. The eastern reaches of Corpse Lake are where the clearing of the swamp has been the most successful. Small villages dot the foothills in the northern parts, farms dot the landscape with thralls working the fields, and several fishing villages are present as well. A few smaller lakes are present, made by a now dried up river that flowed from the Corpse Lake east. The majority of the smallfolk not in the towns reside in the eastern reaches |
