Thread: Third Age Total War for Mac: Now that Macs have M2?

You can try using a wrapper for GTA 4 instead of Sins. GTA is more similar, and popular enough to get a good porting, maybe that will help? I don't use Macs, just guessing. Sounds legit to me.

    Hi all,

I'm still pretty new to the Total War games. I read the TA Mod can be installed for Medieval 2: Total War game?
I recently bought this via Steam on my Mac and I am wondering on how to install this mod. Can anybody give me some heads up please?
I found a few 'How-To' threads on this and other fora but I can't really figure it out...

    Thanks in advance!

Hey, here's how I did it:

    1a) Download Wine from: http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/do...9tYm8vYnVpbGRz
1b) Double click the .dmg file and drag both icons into your App folder

    2) Download both parts of the TATW mod: http://www.moddb.com/mods/third-age-total-war/downloads

3a) After both download, double click on the part 1 exe file. Wine should open.
3b) Select the "run directly in..." option and continue
3c) A yellow window should open. You only have to change a few things before clicking install.

    ...

3c) (cont.): Under installation mode, select "execute file". Also select the check box next to "self contained"
3d) Click "install", name it TATW1 and save it to your desktop

    4) Do the same for part 2, naming it TATW2

    5) Double click on TATW1 in Desktop. Continue through the installation steps until it asks where to save the files. Select My Computer>Users>your user name>Desktop, and then make a new folder named TATW1 and save it there.

    6) Do the same for TATW2, saving the files in a folder called TATW2

    7) Drag the files from TATW2 over to TATW1. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DRAG ENTIRE FOLDERS OVER... macs replace the whole folder instead of the additional files within.

    8) Now move (or copy) the folder named Third_Age_3 (within "mods") to this location: Mac HD>users>your username>library>Application Support>Steam>Steamapps>Common>Medieval II Total War>Medieval2Data>mods

9)Open M2TW through Steam, Select the Medieval II Total War

10a) Go to the advanced tab
10b) Select "Advanced Options" and type the following in the box next to it: "--features.mod=mods/Third_Age_3"
BE CAREFUL NOT TO ALLOW THE 2 DASHES TO MERGE INTO 1 LONG DASH
    10c) Press Play

Okay, so I've followed all of the instructions for using the Sins wrapper, I've downloaded med 2 again, and tried to play the vanilla game, but it crashes at the game startup screen. I don't think I did anything wrong? Is it because my mac uses the Intel HD 3000 graphics? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay so Siege Battles are working but not on Minas Tirith, Edoras, and all this kind of map. I don't know if its a known problem but the dwarven axethrowers make the game crash when throwing

Hi guys i have a Mac and have already downloaded and installed third age total war through steam. It works pretty well and i have had only a few minor defects. I really want to play divide and conquer but i can't figure out how to get it to run. I installed it in the same folder as the third age total war mod but when i try to run it it crashes after the startup screen. If anybody knows how to install it on a mac or can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Drag the files from TATW2 over to TATW1.

After spending two days trying to get this mod to work, I finally did it by following d35966n's directions. You can copy and paste the folders on a Mac, you just need to merge them. The patch file 3.2 is two folders you can just copy and paste. The one thing I did different, and it just occurred to me after a day and a half, was I deleted the quotation marks for what is typed in the advance log. For the life of me I couldn't understand why this wasn't working and then I had an epiphany. Now it works and I've already played through a couple of the historic battles. On to the campaigns!!

Word of warning, it currently seems all cinematics and custom settlements are bugged, custom settlements crash the game and cinematics simply don't play.
Has anybody gotten the cinematics to work on a mac? Is there a certain program I need? It would be nice to watch the scenes as I pick up the missions in the Fellowship campaign.

Please tell me you've found a fix. I've been working on it for several hours straight, to no avail.

Technically it's using the windows version of m2, not feral's port, but it seems as close as we'll get to a fix. This should also work for MOS, DaC and any other submods people have been struggling with.

    Download link is here: http://portingteam.com/files/file/80...ire-rebellion/

When you run the wrapper, log into steam, redownload med 2 and copy/paste your third age folder into the wrapper by right clicking on the wrapper itself and clicking show package contents then finding the med 2 mods folder there.

Since this is the windows version, you need to rename the third age folder to one of the kingdoms expansions then select that to make it work. I rename 'british-isles' to 'british isles original' and 'third_age_3' to 'british-isles'. To play TATW, i simply select the kingdoms Britain campaign.

EDIT: Just to confirm I have tested MOS using this method and it works.

Hi there. So I've followed your instructions, but I've run into a rather dreadful problem. The start up screen, and every screen there-after is terribly distorted, and the menus are all broken. Did you run into a similar issue, and if yes, how did you fix it? And if no, may I inquire as to what your system specs are? That perhaps may help in pinpointing the problem.

Also, in case anyone is wondering, this is what my screen looks like:

Wow, you'll have to pardon my sheer incompetence, I am largely unfamiliar with this website. Here is the screenshot of the problem I am having: http://imgur.com/a/0kB0G

So can you make battles one the campaigns?

Oh yeah also, just want to add on, installing the files on top of one another should work. Just pick a folder, and install everything into that folder. However, I don't recommend this, cause you have to know exactly where the installer wants to install those files. But, as far as you sort of know how it works, you just need to use some logic, and maybe some trial and error. It works for me just fine like that. Still crashes on custom settlements though. And still cant run the game through wineskin.

Can you fight battles on the campaigns?

Yes, but custom settlements do not work, just crash on start of battle. If you are crashing on just any battle, check if the battles work in Vanilla. If they do, then try knocking down your graphic settings.

Any progress on how to fix this issue, or do we just give up and wait for feral?
