Default Hammerhorn Castle, Seat of House Goodbrother

The Annals of House Goodbrother Unlike the many Ironborn houses that claim ancestry from one of the 16 children of the Grey King, House Goodbrother's ancestry is one of uniqueness among the Iron Islands. They claim to be descended from the Grey King's loyal eldest brother; perhaps it is the loyal brother that they take their name Goodbrother from. The Goodbrothers have ruled Great Wyk, the largest of the Iron Island's rocks, for many generations. Their family is one of many cadet branches; a few existing on their home of Great Wyk and at least one located on the neighboring Old Wyk. Their sons and kings have been notable raiders and capable reavers.

Their coat of arms is a gold-ornate black warhorn against a red background. Their primary residence is Hammerhorn Castle, which resides upon the Hardstone Hills, a known place for rich ore mining. Their title, since the establishment of their house, has been known as the King of Hammers, although, at times, they have always been known as the King of Horns.

Harl Goodbrother is the grandson of the late Wulfgar Greyhair, the Second of His Name, and son of the late Ulf Goodbrother, who died in a seastorm on the way back from the Reach. Harl was the oldest of four children, two of which were boys, Gormond and Veron, and the remainder was a girl, Gwynesse. As a child and young adult, he was viewed a handsome young man who fought alongside his grandfather and father many times during their reaving along the western side of Westeros. Eventually, Harl made a name of own his when the time came to perform his own reavings, bringing home mounds of gold and many captured women. Times were good Harl before the crown was set upon his head. For some believe that when the time came for Harl to take the throne of his grandfather's kingdom, everything changed... for the worst.

Harl ascended the throne of Greyhair at the age of 31, becoming Harl, the Fifth of His Name. It did not take long for some undesired, if one could say such words, to appear. One evening, Harl would venture for the chambers of what he called 'his most prized salt wife' only to find her praying to the Seven in her bedchamber. Outraged, Harl would bludgeon her to death with the figurine she was praying to. Another incident occurred when a new salt wife of Harls desired him to be gentle to her. Enraged, the King would strangle her to death, out of spite to what she asked for. His anger and violent reactions became legendary not only on Great Wyk and within the halls of Hammerhorn, but also among his crew. No one dared slack off nor sleep on the job for fear of Harl's harsh punishments. It was his temper and reactions that earned Harl the nickname, 'the Heartless.' He was even called the Sealskinner King and viewed by outside islands as the Demon of Great Wyk. The only ones spared his violent tempers were his children, under the guardianship of his true wife, Gwin Sparr (WIP). She was a stern woman, a trait rubbed off onto their only daughter. Her personality was able to placate and match that of King Harl, ensuring that his immediate family was untouched.

Despite his violence and heartless manner, King Harl is a journeyman reaver and noteworthy seafarer. He had seen the shores of the barren North, the river-filled Riverlands, the rich hills of the Westerlands and the vibrant green fields of the Reach. He savored the wine brought home, the various weapons of iron and Andal craftsmanship and prized his salt wives taken (despite many of them having short lives).

    Members of the Goodbrother Household
    Siblings of King Harl V
    - Gormond Goodbrother, Age 44, Sea Captain of the Great Wyk Navy
    - Veron the Saltspeaker, Age 43, Drowned Priest of Hammerhorn
    - Gwynesse Goodbrother, Age 39, Widowed and Lady of Hammerhorn

    Wives of King Harl V
    - Lady Gwin of House Sparr, Age 41, true wife of King Harl
    - Janei of the Westerlands, Age 26, salt wife of King Harl
    - Maege of the Rivers, Age 28, salt wife of King Harl
    - Daella the Green Lady, Age 21, salt wife of King Harl

    Sons of King Harl V
    - Torwyn Goodbrother (Age 26, Married to Kaila Merlyn (Age 21)) (7 points: +2 Naval Battles, +2 Pillager, +2 Duel, +1 Survival)
Torwyn Goodbrother is the eldest son of King Harl the Heartless and heir to the Goodbrother throne. He is capable reaver and known for being ambitious. Once the boy was handsome, for Ironborn standards, till Greyscale scarred his face badly and left him a disfigured heir. Despite his scarred face, Torwyn is a rather strong Ironborn and known for his crew of the Maidensbane. He has been quietly mocked as the Prince of Bastards due to his womanizing actions. It has become a common sight to see at least one servant with child in Hammerhorn. It is unknown where the bastards go however, although a few have been kept by Torwyn and watched over by his childless uncles.

    - Harrald 'Black Harry' Goodbrother (Age 24, Unmarried) (6 points: +2 Naval Battles, +2 Assassin, +2 Survival)
Harrald Goodbrother is the secondborn son of Heartless Harl who has been seen as a younger version of the ruthless King. Some view him as a demonspawn; as a child, Black Harry would torture rodents and kill them for fun within the corridors of the Hammerhorn, thus earning him the nickname, Harrald the Black or Black Harry. The second son of Harl is a cruel and cunning man, taking delight in tormenting his foes. He has a couple salt wives which were taken by the crew of his ship, Iron Scourge. Harrald is believed to be a true lunatic compared to his father, who is seen as a madman due to his overly violent temper.

    - Dagmer Goodbrother (Age 22, Unmarried) (Saltborn) (6 points: +2 Pathfinder, +2 Rearguard, +2 Survival)
The youngest son of King Harl, named Dagmer, is the saltborn son of a late salt wife, who died giving birth to him. Unlike his more cunning and ambitious brothers, Dagmer is a slow and thick-headed male. Noted for his piety and loyalty for the Drowned God, young Dagmer was crippled badly by a fallen sea rock. The rock mangled one of his legs, that eventually healed, but made the Ironborn have a limp. Sometimes he is forced to use a cane to help himself walk. Some believe it was the actions of Dagmer that crippled his younger brother, but others believed that the youngest of King Harl is cursed by Drowned God or the Storm God. Despite his injuries, Dagmer spends much time with his uncle Veron and learns the ways of the Drowned faith from him. Dagmer has no ship of his own, but still attends reavings with his father and older brothers.

Eiric Greyjoy's longship Lion's Bane sailed into the harbor at Hammerhorn and the massive Lord Eiric jumped onto the salt crusted docks. His friend and adviser Bjorn was with him and a number of his household guard bearing the sigil of the golden kraken. Eiric's sword hung at his side but his more customary weapons, those he actually did battle with, were left behind. Shield and axe were his preferred implements. He reached the end of the dock and called over the dockmaster. "Send word that Lord Greyjoy has arrived for an audience."

The dockmaster had the word sent to the harbor's guard captain. From there, word went to Hammerhorn Castle, which was further inland, to the captain of the guard there. And finally, to the ears of King Harl. It took some time for a reply to finally reach the dockmaster and the Greyjoy visitors, yet the news was worth waiting as the Goodbrother King allowed the request for an audience and granted guest rights to Lord Greyjoy. An entourage of mounted housecarls escorted Greyjoy and his company to the Hardstone Hills and the Hammerhorn Castle, the seat of the kingdom that encompassed the whole of Great Wyk. It would take half a day before Eiric was finally at the doors to the throne room. Yet as the doors opened, an axe was seen being thrown and landing on the edge of opening door. The next moment, a thrall ran past the company and scurried off somewhere. The booming voice of Heartless Harl could be heard...

BLASTED THRALL!! I DEMANDED FOR VINTAGE FROM THE ARBOR, NOT THIS DONKEY PISS FROM THE RIVERLANDS!!! NEXT TIME, IT WILL BE YOUR HEAD!!

The guards kept the Greyjoy party outside of the throne room, allowing the seething Harl to relax before they nodded to Eiric to enter. The large and bearded Harl Goodbrother sits upon his throne; his crown set upon a table beside an upturned goblet. His face was slightly pink now, but once was a brilliant and vicious red. His temper was legendary among the Ironborn, but his violence was even more dreaded than his anger. The Ironborn's eyes turned to see Eiric Greyjoy enter his hall immediately.'

Seems we must wait for the better vintage to arrive, Lord Greyjoy. I wanted the best from cellars for my Kraken guests; that savory Arbor Gold... but the thrall grabbed a sour vintage from Oldstones. Blasted maggots...

Eiric and Bjorn drew closer, and Greyjoy gave a thunderous laugh. "I once had a serving wench whipped, one lash for every drop she spilt of my favorite wine. I had my dumbest sworn man try to work out how many drops was in a horn, she died in the process. I daresay one glass of fine drink is worth more than the lowest thrall." He continued forward, accepting a cup and calling for ale. "Stores running low then, Harl?" He spoke to the man as an equal, although Eiric took no kingly title for himself.

Harl eyes the thrall with a deadly look as the proper wine is brought out and poured. The dark eyes of the Goodbrother King stay upon the thrall as he sips the mug before nodding curtly for the servant to leave. Once the servant had scurried off, his dark gaze turned back to Lord Greyjoy who called him by his name. Any other man would have had his tongue cut out, but Greyjoy was an honored guest. Even if he wasn't a king, Harl still called the Lords of Pyke, the Kraken Kings.

Stores are hardly running low, Eiric. Still gained plenty from our recent hauls against fishing boats north and south of the Ironman's Bay. Yet my vassals and I still yearn to one day reave... I have been tempted to strike at the Riverlands once more or go North and take what hardy women and precious goods the Northerners have to offer.

"My son would reave north, and I've given my blessing." He replied. "We can supply six ships and their crews. I've come with an offer for you and House Goodbrother. Why not combine our forces and raid from north to south? Bear Island makes for a good start, and end in the Riverlands for a short sail home with the boats brimming with treasure." Eiric would not join them. He was bored of the routine reaving, he had his fill, but his son was ready to make a name for himself. Surely House Goodbrother would want a share, and their combined strength would open up more opportunities.

King Harl strokes his beard attentively, pondering upon the proposition made Lord Greyjoy. Strength in numbers would surely ensure greater loot and more opportunities compared to fighting alone. However, Harl would need to speak with his vassals about this. He looks over to a nearby guard who bows and walks off to attend some matters, allowing Harl to turn his gaze back to Eiric.

Allow me to call my vassals and let them learn your proposal, Lord Greyjoy. I know they would want to know the intended targets and what their share would be.

Eiric smiled broadly, he enjoyed the reaver's bargaining. "Provide six ships and their crews, and I'll split the haul with Goodbrother equally with my own, exactly half. If your vassals intend to join you may pay them by splitting your share amount them however you wish."

(by which I mean six ships and 600 men)

Sargon arrives after being summoned. Castle Pebbleton, being only a short distance from Hammerhorn itself, meant he had arrived within hours of being requested. Entering the castle on horseback with a small band of retainers, he makes for the keep proper to meet with the King of Great Wyk.

    [OOC: it.]

As Sargon entered the hall, he saw King Harl conversing with another, who upon closer inspection appeared to be none other than King Eiric Greyjoy of Pyke.

"Kings." said Sargon flatly in greeting.

The King admits his vassal and the father-in-law to his eldest son, Torwyn. Still present was Lord Greyjoy, who had come knocking with a proposal. Once Sargon entered the keep, Harl would speak bluntly.

Lord Greyjoy offers aid and a proposal; six ships, 600 men and his sons in a reaving from Bear Island all the way to the Riverlands. Our might joined together in bringing terror to the Greenlanders and extracting women and goods to refill our coffers and beds. Exactly half the loot is split between us. What say you, Sargon?

"I say my sons left near a week ago headed for Bear Isle," said Sargon, "They believe the North's fleets so weak that they can land upon the island and methodically plunder it with impunity. If you wish to sail north and use Bear Isle as a base for further attacks along their coast, you should find my sails there."

Harl nodded to his vassal, not at all surprised that Merlyn was already performing his own raiding actions. It seemed Bear Isle would be fully plundered by the time they arrived, but there were still plenty of other targets. He turns his gaze to Lord Greyjoy.

We will aim to join Merlyn's ships at Sea Dragon Point, just southwest of Bear Isle. Should give his sons plenty of time to thoroughly plunder the isle before moving onto the next target. We will move south along the Stony Shore and aim for Cape Kraken and Flint's Finger. Plundering all along those shores for anything of value from the Northerners. Does this meet with your approval?

ooc: I'm bored so I want to do a longer post Eiric was growing tired with the equivocacy he had found in Goodbrother's halls. He was an amicable man, jovial, and a hell of a drinking partner, but in matters of war he was short tempered, passionate, and quick to anger. "What have the men of Goodbrother to say? His men? We would stain the snow red with Northmen blood, steal their women and children as thralls and saltwives, find their hoards and take them for our own! Who among you has so much gold and silver that you need no more!" He stalked from one side of the hall to the other. "Would the Drowned God's will be that I stood behind a ship's wheel than on a chair, even one as mighty as the Seastone Chair, I would take my axe and shield and sail north and educate the northern whelps on a Kraken's axe. Salt and fire!" His beard was wagging as he gave a deep laugh "And will nobody sail north with my son to engage in this merriment? To bring our houses closer together?"

Harl listens to the words of Lord Greyjoy. The Heartless King had kept his tongue bit tightly through the whole ordeal as the Kraken King was a respectable and powerful individual among the Ironborn nobility. As the echoing of Eiric's passionate speech died down within the halls of Hammerhorn, Harl would slowly rise from his throne and look to Lord Greyjoy with a grim determination upon his face.

I shall have the banners raised and the masts readied, Lord Greyjoy. My sons, Torwyn and Harrald, shall lead the Goodbrother fleets and raiders northward to join our Merlyn comrades and begin raiding all across the western shores of the North. The Winter Kings shall cower before our black masts and our fearsome raiders. All shall be either thrall or salt wife. Their fields shall burn, their homes will be ruined and all shall run at the sight of our fleets on the horizon.

Eiric raised his axe in triumph "And we shall water the northern snow with the blood of our enemies!" He roared. he almost wished he was sailing north now, but this was the autumn of his life, and such voyaging had been left to his son. He had merely been here to make the appeal, and soon he would return to Pyke. "My son sails soon." He warned. "Have the ships gather at Pyke, and soon the Northmen shall know our wrath."
