    "We vow in Salt"

History of House Blacktyde House Blacktyde of Blacktyde is a noble house from Blacktyde Castle on the island of Blacktyde, located north of Orkmont and Harlaw. They blazon their arms with vairy green and black.
Over the years, the Blacktydes ruled souvereign over their small island, sometimes as lords upon their own right, sometimes under an overlord - yet it did not matter most of the times, as they ruled within their own grasp and declared themselves independent successfully several times as well, when the opportunity was right. The Blacktydes are feared for the ammount of men they are able to amass on open field as one of the larger independent lordships, while their fleet ranged up from 60 - 80 ships during the ancient days.

    Characters:

King Barnabas Blacktyde, King Reaver of Tides and Cliffs

    Age: 41
Biography: Being since a young man King of Tides and Cliffs upon the small island of Blacktyde, Barnabas had to fight many threats during his early life, when a raid of his father Artos Blacktyde upon the coasts of Essos failed and it was on terms of the 21 year old heir to guide his remaining crew home, when both Artos and Barnabas elder brother Rolf died in battle.
While not being the most feared King Reaver among the Ironmen, 'The Devilfish' made himself a name by decimateing the Dornishmen by a large portion of war ships after a failed raid, claiming even one for his own. Since this day the Broken Spear still serves as his flagship, as the self-proclaimed King liked the taste of its bittersweet name in reminding of this one memorable battle. Since then Barnabas sailed across the shores of eastern Westeros, when he felt that raiding the North or the Riverlands wouldn't be worth it, as other Ironborn contested him. At the same time, he kept a neutral peace with other kingdoms oddly enough, as Blacktyde was smart enough to not underestimate the shemeing of the Greenlanders. During the past he even attacked Saltpans with his fleet, as he signed a contract with a Stormlord to gain bounty for the head of the reigning Lord, since they were at this time in war with the local Riverlanders of this region. Even some campaigns lead him on land to cover his raids as the act of mere bandits, while his ships were hidden within the neighboured kingdom for a small sum of payment towards the neutral, benefitting faction.
Though he reigns with an iron fist and is famous for takeing Saltwifes even nowadays, Blacktyde has some of his contacts in cities as Oldtown and Lannisport to increase the wealth of his family seat. Apart from regular seal skins, Iron and looted weapons and armour, he rarely even sold captured nobles and even noblewomen from the Riverlands to the Lannisters for a smaller sum than the prize they would demand for freeing said person for their brave act of obtaining them - of course those days were sadly over and the current Lannisters would mayhaps regret those actions of their previous ruler - nontheless Barnabas kept always to the ancient codex of his ancestors to remind himself, that a Blacktyde is as much worth as he vowed his words to the Sea.
As well he keeps his alliances to the other Petty Kingdoms, as his wife is a Hoare woman (in agreement with Oz) and one of his sisters is married to the current ruler of Saltcliff (requested by Vernon). Furthermore, he achieved an agreement with the 'Eaglesworn' company from Qohor to aid them within their battles, if they haven't left their seat on Blacktyde to sail on their own employments.

Trivia upon 'The Codex': The Blacktyde Codex keeps to an ancient, but forgotten pact of Haeggon II. Blacktyde during the Ancient days, when he and his host got trapped upon the main land by a smart move of the current Lord Mallister at this time, resulting in the loss of his entire fleet, while the soldiers were on land, but they were able to flee from the area of the Trident and came to the Westerlands under Lannister's rule. The tales at this points are speculateing under whom King Haeggon got donated a new fleet to sail home with the remnants of his host for the promise, that House Blacktyde shall never reave the Westerlander's coasts, as long as House Lannister keeps his promise to do the same, but some sources even claim that the event happened during the times of Lann the Clever, thus causeing a lot of Ironborn on Blacktyde, among them some Blacktyde family members to doubt the truth of the story, since none of the Westerlanders have tracked records over such an event either.
By logic it should be assumed, that the Codex was broken already several times by both sides, since raids among the Westerlander shores by House Blacktyde definitly happened in the past as much as the Westerlander Houses retributeing the same favor. Nontheless the majority of the Blacktyde Kings kept the Codex as a memory of times, where the Ironborn even had allies in need during the past and as a testament of the King Reavers of Blacktyde being reliable on whom they attack and whom they spare. Since multiple versions of the Codex exist, as the Drowned Men had to re-new it over times, some even included the Reach and other regions into it, leaveing also to the speculation that Haeggon might have even asked a Gardener or a Hightower for this single favor.
But no matter the myths, the majority of House Blacktyde still believes within the Codex and the old values of honor within the Ironborn.

Colmar Blacktyde, Captain of the Moray

    Age: 49
Biography: A wise King Reaver is nothing without the guidance of an experienced family member, who wouldn't betray his overlord that easily. Colmar Blacktyde, brother of King Artos II. Blacktyde and uncle of the current King Reaver of Tides and Cliffs is such a man, as he acts as Barnabas personal fleet admiral upon their expeditions and upcomeing battles. Mainly due to his experience the Moray, his black-tinted long boat, was able to sacrifice a good ammount of pirate hunters during the past to the Drowned God by sending them to the bottom of the sea. Unlike Barnabas he often sailed even after Artos' death to the shores of Essos, when he was not in charge of overseeing the regular duties on Blacktyde in absence of his nephew, some actually saying that he only sails there in remembrance and respect of his elder brother.
Like Barnabas Colmar does honor The Codex and executes his reaveing only on villages, which are not under the protection of it. As an experienced fighter, he even dares a remaining Lord to fight in a duel till the death for the freedom of his people (similiar to a trial of combat), as he is a man, who does also believe in fate. That he is still liveing had proven already that he is at least a favorite champion of the Drowned God, when it comes to dealing with nasty Greenlanders.
Though he has no ambitions on the Cliff Throne himself, he always keeps an eye on his nephew's children and his own ones, as he has to debate several times with his first mate Hargon Stormreef about their loyality upon the Codex and in general their understanding as Ironborn. And though he shows everyone outside his confidence into the future, he's on the inside a doubtful and worried man, when it comes to the future of his people and the leadership of those, who will follow Barnabas. Especially those, who seem unworthy in eyes of the Codex...

    Traits:

    Pathfinder +1
    Naval +3
    Duel +2

    Mortimer Blacktyde, Drowned Priest

    Age: 38
Biography: While Colmar and Barnabas do the majority of the fights, it is mainly Mortimer, the younger brother of Barnabas, who takes care of their family's back. Being ascended to a Drowned Priest, as he was the secondborn in the family and spent thus his time during his youth in presence of these holy men, he serves the Drowned God as faithfully as he serves the interests of his family, thus being the spiritual head of Blacktyde.
Many warriors do respect Mortimer also due to him participateing within the raids and major battles as a supporter of the backlines to prevent the men from routing on a retreat.
But as much is known upon this man, many claim that he still has secrets to behold like many Drowned Priests...

    Traits:

    Charisma +3

    "Fear the Reaper"

    Ralf Harlaw

    Name: Ralf Harlaw
Titles: King of Reapers, Lord of Harlaw Hall and High Lord of Harlaw, Lord Reaver of Harlaw
    Nicknames: Ironwolf, Half-Hand
    Age: 51
    Traits:
    +3 Battles
    +3 Naval Battles
    +3 Fear(Charisma)
    +3 Wealth
    Family:
    Numerous Salt Wives
    Arya Harlaw - Rock Wife
    Harras Harlaw - Son
    Hotho Harlaw - Son
    Rickard Harlaw - Son
    Asha Harlaw - Daughter

Bio: Ralf Harlaw was the first born son of King Stygg Harlaw, the fool. Stygg had a rather tenuous hold over his vassals. Nonetheless, Ralf grew up as any Ironborn would, fighting and reaving. On his first raid, he was badly wounded, and was lost in the Northern Wilderness. As the tales go, he met a Dire Wolf, and succeeded in bludgeoning it to death with his steel clad fist, earning him the name Ironwolf. He also lost several fingers in the same encounter, which bequeathed the name Half-Hand unto him.

He served as the only thing holding Harlaw together for years, until his father died in a tragic "accident", when his bed caught fire. Ralf swiftly took up his inheritance and hammered Harlaw into shape. He rules by sheer force of will. That, and the terrible fear of his name, swiftly repaired the damage done to Harlaw.

He is cruel, ruthless and without mercy. He has bedded many wives - both salt and rock - over the years, and truly has a soft spot for many of them. It has often been observed that he loves children, often being seen tutouring his own personally. He is a born conqueror, and eyes the lands of Westeros with avarice.

    House Goodbrother of Great Wyk
    Sound the Horns!

The Annals of House Goodbrother Unlike the many Ironborn houses that claim ancestry from one of the 16 children of the Grey King, House Goodbrother's ancestry is one of uniqueness among the Iron Islands. They claim to be descended from the Grey King's loyal eldest brother; perhaps it is the loyal brother that they take their name Goodbrother from. The Goodbrothers have ruled Great Wyk, the largest of the Iron Island's rocks, for many generations. Their family is one of many cadet branches; a few existing on their home of Great Wyk and at least one located on the neighboring Old Wyk. Their sons and kings have been notable raiders and capable reavers.

Their coat of arms is a gold-ornate black warhorn against a red background. Their primary residence is Hammerhorn Castle, which resides upon the Hardstone Hills, a known place for rich ore mining. Their title, since the establishment of their house, has been known as the King of Hammers, although, at times, they have always been known as the King of Horns.

    King Harl V 'the Heartless'

Name: King Harl, the Fifth of His Name, of House Goodbrother
Nicknames: Harl the Heartless, Heartless Harl, the Demon of Great Wyk, the Sealskinner King
Title(s): King of Hammers (alt. King of Horns), Lord of Hammerhorn Castle and High Lord of Great Wyk
    Age: 47
Marital Status: Married to Gwin of House Sparr alongside a few salt wives (may change this eventually)
Children: 6 offspring; 3 boys and 3 girls (3 of which were saltborn)
    - Torwyn Goodbrother (Twin of Meredyth) (Age 26, Unmarried)
    - Meredyth Goodbrother (Twin of Torwyn) (Age 26, Unmarried)
    - Harrald 'Black Harry' Goodbrother (Age 24, Unmarried)
    - Mella Goodbrother (Age 22, Unmarried) (Saltborn)
    - Dagmer Goodbrother (Age 22, Unmarried) (Saltborn)
    - Gysella Goodbrother (Age 19, Unmarried (Saltborn)
    Traits (11 points): +3 Naval Battles, +3 Survival, +3 Duel, +2 Pillager

Harl Goodbrother is the grandson of the late Wulfgar Greyhair, the Second of His Name, and son of the late Ulf Goodbrother, who died in a seastorm on the way back from the Reach. Harl was the oldest of four children, two of which were boys, Gormond and Veron, and the remainder was a girl, Gwynesse. As a child and young adult, he was viewed a handsome young man who fought alongside his grandfather and father many times during their reaving along the western side of Westeros. Eventually, Harl made a name of own his when the time came to perform his own reavings, bringing home mounds of gold and many captured women. Times were good Harl before the crown was set upon his head. For some believe that when the time came for Harl to take the throne of his grandfather's kingdom, everything changed... for the worst.

Harl ascended the throne of Greyhair at the age of 31, becoming Harl, the Fifth of His Name. It did not take long for some undesired, if one could say such words, to appear. One evening, Harl would venture for the chambers of what he called 'his most prized salt wife' only to find her praying to the Seven in her bedchamber. Outraged, Harl would bludgeon her to death with the figurine she was praying to. Another incident occurred when a new salt wife of Harls desired him to be gentle to her. Enraged, the King would strangle her to death, out of spite to what she asked for. His anger and violent reactions became legendary not only on Great Wyk and within the halls of Hammerhorn, but also among his crew. No one dared slack off nor sleep on the job for fear of Harl's harsh punishments. It was his temper and reactions that earned Harl the nickname, 'the Heartless.' He was even called the Sealskinner King and viewed by outside islands as the Demon of Great Wyk. The only ones spared his violent tempers were his children, under the guardianship of his true wife, Gwin Sparr (WIP). She was a stern woman, a trait rubbed off onto their only daughter. Her personality was able to placate and match that of King Harl, ensuring that his immediate family was untouched.

Despite his violence and heartless manner, King Harl is a journeyman reaver and noteworthy seafarer. He had seen the shores of the barren North, the river-filled Riverlands, the rich hills of the Westerlands and the vibrant green fields of the Reach. He savored the wine brought home, the various weapons of iron and Andal craftsmanship and prized his salt wives taken (despite many of them having short lives).

    Members of the Goodbrother Household
    Siblings of King Harl V
    - Gormond Goodbrother, Age 44, Sea Captain of the Great Wyk Navy
    - Veron the Saltspeaker, Age 43, Drowned Priest of Hammerhorn
    - Gwynesse Goodbrother, Age 39, Widowed and Lady of Hammerhorn

    Wives of King Harl V
    - Lady Gwin of House Sparr, Age 41, true wife of King Harl
    - Janei of the Westerlands, Age 26, salt wife of King Harl
    - Maege of the Rivers, Age 28, salt wife of King Harl
    - Daella the Green Lady, Age 21, salt wife of King Harl

    Sons of King Harl V
    - Torwyn Goodbrother (Age 26, Unmarried) (7 points: +2 Naval Battles, +2 Pillager, +2 Duel, +1 Survival)
Torwyn Goodbrother is the eldest son of King Harl the Heartless and heir to the Goodbrother throne. He is capable reaver and known for being ambitious. Once the boy was handsome, for Ironborn standards, till Greyscale scarred his face badly and left him a disfigured heir. Despite his scarred face, Torwyn is a rather strong Ironborn and known for his crew of the Maidensbane. He has been quietly mocked as the Prince of Bastards due to his womanizing actions. It has become a common sight to see at least one servant with child in Hammerhorn. It is unknown where the bastards go however, although a few have been kept by Torwyn and watched over by his childless uncles.

    - Harrald 'Black Harry' Goodbrother (Age 24, Unmarried) (6 points: +2 Naval Battles, +2 Assassin, +2 Survival)
Harrald Goodbrother is the secondborn son of Heartless Harl who has been seen as a younger version of the ruthless King. Some view him as a demonspawn; as a child, Black Harry would torture rodents and kill them for fun within the corridors of the Hammerhorn, thus earning him the nickname, Harrald the Black or Black Harry. The second son of Harl is a cruel and cunning man, taking delight in tormenting his foes. He has a couple salt wives which were taken by the crew of his ship, Iron Scourge. Harrald is believed to be a true lunatic compared to his father, who is seen as a madman due to his overly violent temper.

    - Dagmer Goodbrother (Age 22, Unmarried) (Saltborn) (6 points: +2 Pathfinder, +2 Rearguard, +2 Survival)
The youngest son of King Harl, named Dagmer, is the saltborn son of a late salt wife, who died giving birth to him. Unlike his more cunning and ambitious brothers, Dagmer is a slow and thick-headed male. Noted for his piety and loyalty for the Drowned God, young Dagmer was crippled badly by a fallen sea rock. The rock mangled one of his legs, that eventually healed, but made the Ironborn have a limp. Sometimes he is forced to use a cane to help himself walk. Some believe it was the actions of Dagmer that crippled his younger brother, but others believed that the youngest of King Harl is cursed by Drowned God or the Storm God. Despite his injuries, Dagmer spends much time with his uncle Veron and learns the ways of the Drowned faith from him. Dagmer has no ship of his own, but still attends reavings with his father and older brothers.

    Daughters of King Harl V
    - Meredyth Goodbrother (Age 26, Unmarried)
    - Mella Goodbrother (Age 22, Unmarried) (Saltborn)
    - Gysella Goodbrother (Age 19, Unmarried (Saltborn)

    House Farwynd of Sealskin Point

    Regnor Farwynd, Lord Whalebabe

A second son, Regnor never spent much time with his father. Instead, he found himself being cared for by the warriors who clustered around the modest keep on the Point. It was during his youth that the future lord engaged in his first reaving, sailing up and down the western shores of Westeros. He thrived with the independence, cataloging loot and setting ashore on foreign lands. While he did not return with much in the way of his own riches or as a glorious warrior, Regnor was proud of himself nonetheless. He had survived in the world of the ironmen, something not all could lay claim to. No, he was a disciple of the Drowned God and was set to live a long and fulfilling life.

Following the twin deaths of father and brother due to the tender mercies of the Storm God, Regnor was forced in to a position of responsibility as regent for his infant nephew. Others would have taken the chance to further themselves, to slay the babe and claim the lordship for himself. Something stopped Regnor from doing so, a young man full of ideals. No, instead he cared for the child and the lands which were his by virtue of birth. Even so, the iron isles are not a place for children, for a weak child too young to say his own name. The child died during one winter's night, leaving Regnor to take the mantle of lord.

As lord he has acted as any reaver from the isles should: you has waged war for his liege, for the Drowned God and for himself. He has seen distant lands beyond the setting sun and brought back such riches as to drown a greenlander far from sea. Now an old man, the fire which once propelled him seems to have faded, a vanity replacing righteous pyres. All he cares for now is the undivided love and affection of his household, of the name of the Farwynds at the table of Kings and Lords.

    Age: 52
    Nicknames: Lord Whalebabe
    Traits:
    - 3 wealth
    - 3 survival
    - 2 naval battle
    - 2 battle
    - 2 charisma
    - 3 naval battle
    Asmund Farwynd, the Broodmare

Raised in much the same way as Regnor himself, Asmund was left to go feral with the rest of the Ironborn reavers and soldiers. Lustful, hot-blooded and completely unaware of how to be offer deference, Asmund has a great brood of children to crofter wives and fishermen daughters who all squabble for his affections. Despite his ability to foster children on the smallfolk, for years he and his wife have been unable to spawn their own child, aside from the sickly girl Fahia. There have be other children, malformed creatures and pink fleshy things who did not resemble the supposed father at all.

He is a tested warrior, reaving the very same shoreline as his father before him. He has a score of saltwives at present, blonde-haired angels and silver-lined swans. To others this would be a mark of prestige but to Asmund they are less trophies of his victories but a raw reminder of a land outside of the control of the Ironborn. He has haughty ideas for the lands of the greenlanders, of continent-spanning tithes and king's ransoms with which to take the Drowned God's way to the highest peaks.

    Age: 30

    Traits:
    - 2 Survival
    - 2 Charisma
    - 2 Battle
    - 2 naval battle
    Wyn Farwynd, Sealwife

Grown old before his time, Wyn was always the favoured son of Regnor. Wise, witty and content with his lot in life, the middle son is the one who most closely resembles their father. He has a great personal attachment to the name of his family and their House, to the future of the Farwynds in the Iron Isles and Westeros as a whole. This often leads him to face off against his elder brother, who appeared to have no interest in what happened to the family.

Commonly found on the beach or in a cove, Wyn is often rumoured to be a skinchanger, a man who takes over the body of sea creatures to perform sickening bedding rituals. This often cuts deeply, an insult he cannot but answer with naked steel.

    Age: 28

    Traits:
    - 2 survival
    - 2 wealth
    - 2 duel
    - 2 naval battle

    Ealrig Farwynd, the Hornless

The youngest of Regnor's sons, Ealrig is often considered a coward by his fellow ironborn. He does not participate in reavings, nor does he call out the followers of the Seven heathens. Instead, he spends his time at the side of his ailing mother, speaking of such radical ideas with which to completely redefine the Iron Isles. None of these proposals are ever given any real thought, expect to proclaim them blasphemies against the Drowned God.

He is a quiet man, diligent and temperate but not without his own ambitions and desires. Faithful to his wife, he has yet to have a child. This is an issue which sometimes comes to the fore with his older siblings, given that they had families of their own. It is also an easy wound to open for his foes and opponents, calling on his inability to sire a child proof of the Drowned God's displeasure with his schemes.

    Age: 24

    Traits:
    - 2 survival
    - 2 duel
    - 2 charisma

    House Merlyn of Castle Pebbleton

Sargon Merlyn, Lord of Castle Pebbleton

    Sargon Merlyn
    Lord of Castle Pebbleton

Like every free man of the Iron Isles, Sargon is an accomplished sailor and reaver: the twisted sigil of House Merlyn is one of dozens of symbols known up and down Westeros' western coast as a symbol of piracy and death.
He does not regard himself as a cruel or sadistic man, certainly no more so than the standard for the Ironborn: his slaves aren't treated too harshly, his raids aren't too wantonly violent, his rulings aren't usually arbitrary or heavy-handed.

He rules Castle Pebbleton, a small stone fortress sitting in the hills watching diligently over the town of Pebbleton - one of the very few large settlements on the Iron Islands and the principle port on Great Wyk - that sprawls out along the flat grasslands below, sheltered from the winds by the cove that created the ideal natural harbour conditions for the settlement. Being upon those hills, however, makes the castle a windswept place.
Beholden to the senior branch of House Goodbrother, the mightiest branch of a family that has multiple holdings upon the island of Great Wyk, Sargorn acknowledges the Petty King of Great Wyk just as every Ironborn acknowledges whatever Petty King rules their particular island: by attending reavings alongside their ships if summoned.

    - Kaila Merlyn, Age 21 (27 years Sargon's younger)
    - Criston Merlyn, Age 17 (31 years Sargon's younger)

    Theodan Merlyn, Firstborn Son

    Theodan Merlyn
    Heir to Castle Pebbleton

A calculating and capable sailor, Theodan learned the craft of piracy from his father and his best men. Often commanding the ships of his father's raids while his brothers take the landing force ashore, Theodan is a daring naval tactician and makes great use of his Longships' ability to sail in shallow water and into river systems. He has taken loot and women from as far afield as the Trident and the Mander, hauling his vessels through the swamplands of Seagard in order to spread fear and chaos far downriver where Ironborn pirates are a challenge the locals are rarely prepared to face.

    - Gregor Merlyn, Age 6 (27 years Theodan's younger)

    Uthor Merlyn, Second Son

    Uthor Merlyn
    Second Son to Sargon Merlyn

Uthor is somewhat of an oddity among Ironborn, in that he views the sea primarily as a means to get to other shores. He believes the future of the Ironborn is as conquerors, subjugating the Greenlands and their soft peoples beneath their martial might. Where ever there are shores or riverbanks, the Ironborn can rule, so says Uthor.

As a result of this Uthor takes a great interest in the raiding aspect of Ironborn life, and in the study of the tactics of battle rather than the tactics of picking a weak, but lucrative, target. He dreams of conquering for himself territory to call his own.

    - Tarah Merlyn, age 6 (21 years Uthor's younger)

    Haegon Merlyn, Third Son

    Haegon Merlyn
    Third Son to Sargon Merlyn

Much like his immediate older brother, Haegon is more comfortable with an axe in his hand and a shield wall at his shoulders than he is on a ship at sea. Capable of commanding a warband and a better outdoorsman than many, he is adept at tracking and moving across all manner of terrain with great speed. He has lead his men to appear impossibly far inland only to vanish and re-appear elsewhere on enemy shores with great speed, frustrating attempts to rally a force to repulse him.

    Urron Squideater

    Name: Urron Squideater
    Age: 41
    Traits (10 points):
Survival +3 "What is dead may never die, but rises again, harder and stronger."
Duel +2 "Hard places breed hard men, and hard men rule the world."
Capture +2 "Those who serve the Drowned God must be vigilant of the machinations of the Storm God."
Charisma +3 "When a Drowned Man speaks, the Ironborn listen."

    Bio:
Most men only live one life, but sometimes the gods have other plans. The first life of the Drowned Priest is a mystery, a forgotten past no longer important. Some speak of a fisherman who ventured out on a day when the Storm God was wroth, others say he was a lord who was thrown into the sea during a reaving. What is known is that he was found by a Drowned Priest on the shore of Harlaw, and the priest brought him back to life. With only visions of the Drowned God's watery halls in his mind, the man took the name Urron and devoted his entire being to the Drowned God.

The Squideater has preached on the islands for at least 15 years. His blackened and hardened feet have walked across every shore, his withered hands and saltwater have blessed countless men and ships over the years. There is no place he calls home but the islands themselves, and he frequently can be seen as a guest in the houses of commoners and the keeps of lords and kings. Many times, however, the Drowned Man eats, sleeps and lives on the shores, with the cliffs as his bed and the sky as his roof.

Urron Squideater is always dressed in old and ragged robes, a patchwork of greens, blues and greys. Around his neck is a necklace of seashells, fish bones, rocks and bird feathers. His hair and beard are long and unkempt, their once nut brown colour turning to grey. Urron is never without his cudgel, which also serves as a walking stick, and his sack of saltwater.

    Greyjoy

    We Do Not Sow

Eiric Greyjoy, Lord Reaper of Pyke

    Age: 40
Traits: +3 Naval Battles, +3 Battles, +2 Survival, +2 Duels

Eiric has sat the Seastone Chair as the Lord Reaper of Pyke for over a decade. In that time he had been blessed with sons, witnessed the fall of the Greyiron Kings, and covered himself in glory raiding the Green Lands beyond the horizon. He usually carries his hand axe and round shield into combat, but has also been known to fight with a bastard sword. Never quick to anger, fiercely proud, and convivial.

His wife is a shadowy creature who rarely ventured further than the castle, she is rumored to be insane.

    Herleif Greyjoy

    Age: 21
Traits: +2 Battles, +2 Naval Battles, +2 Survival

Herleif is the heir apparent to the Seastone Chair and a frequent and enthusiastic Reaver. As heir to the throne, he would be expected to show his martial prowess.

    Rangvaldr Greyjoy

    Age: 19
Traits: +1 Naval Battles, +1 Battles, +2 Survival, +1 Pillager

As second son, it seems unlikely that Rangvaldr will ever rule, but he still seeks to cover himself in glory and look for opportunities to inherit. One well aimed arrow separated him from the Seastone Chair, and he knew it. He would whet his skills and seek the approval of his father's men.

    Asger Greyjoy

    Age: 15
    Traits: +3 Survival, +2 Scout

Asger was born with a crippling deformity to his foot which renders him unable to walk without a heavy limp. IN a warrior culture this has made him somewhat of an outcast despite his best attempts to learn to master the short bow, he has mostly given up, contenting himself to serve perhaps a spiritual path of his people by worshipping the Drowned God and becoming his agent.

    Household Retainers

    Hild

    Age: 20
    Traits: +2 Survival, +2 Duel, +2 Rearguard

Hild, a fearsome warrior despite being a woman, is the friend and sometimes lover of Herleif. She is aggressive, choosing to fight with sword and shield instead of spending her days sewing and cooking. At first the man balked at her, but her frequent demonstrations of courage have changed their minds.

    Bjorn

    Age: 37
    Traits: +2 Battles, +2 Naval Battles, +2 Survival, +2 Duels, +1 Scout

Bjorn is a commoner, but a fearsome warrior, friend, and counselor to Lord Eiric. He was the Lord's frequent companion on numerous raids, and on more than one occasion saved his life.

    Esgred of House Volmark
    Terror will Rise

House Volmark of Volmark is a noble house from the Iron Islands. Their seat of Volmark is on the island of Harlaw, and they are sworn to the house of the same name.
They have large holdings on the island and have a decorated history.
They blazon their arms with a black leviathan on a grey sea. Their words are Terror will Rise.

    Name: Esgred Volmark
    Age: 31
    Marital Status: Unmarried
    Children: None
    Traits: +2 Battle, +2 Naval, +2 Survival, +2 Duel

Esgred Volmark posses an aggressive, powerful personality. She is battle-hardened and boats about her skills in battle more often then not. She wants to prove that her strength is equal to every man. From a young age she has seen that woman are treated in a different manner from men. Ironborn have proven themselves to be better in realizing that woman too have power and strength, but still it is not enough in her opinion. Her mother was his fathers favourite wife, she however was only a salt wife. Abducted from the shores of near Starfall. Rumoured to be the daughter of a noble knight. However, it is as likely that she was just a daughter of a fisherman or a goat shepherd, only claiming to be of noble blood to boast some standing in her new home. Jyzene was strong, independent and beautiful, she quickly adapted to her new invirement. She converted to the Drowned God swiftly and was admired for her strong personality - a trait inherited by her daughter and complimented of her Ironborn husband. She was a great rival of the Rock wife of Endehar Valmark, but soon it was she who was his true wife in all but name.

This in anger of Esgred's half-siblings, who saw their mother being set aside for a salt wife. They bullied their half-sibling Esgred and made her life miserable. Ironborn culture was harsh, living with elder siblings was even worse. Her father did little to protect her, as he was always away on sea. So from a young age she had to stand up for herself. She grew stronger in the years and soon the other kids where scared of her. Becoming older, shy of being a maiden, men begane to pay attention to her. And not always wanted. She knew that it would never be over. She would never be completly safe, if she did not make something of her life herself. She had no talent of subordination so she never dreamed of becoming just lady wife. Instead she picked up a sword, becoming a shield-maiden. Her father was proud of this and took her with him on his ship and raised her to become an warrior.

At 31 she found herself the ruler of Volmark. She is unmarried and childless. She is known to have enjoyed the company of men, especially very comely men. Her bedmate is a large man of the Summer Isles. She once stated that she should be entitled to have Rock and Salt husbands, like her male counterparts. She is known to have said that she had relatives enough to ensure that house Volmark would continue, but also that she would marry a man who proved to be her better.

House Farwynd of the Lonely Light

A cadet branch of House Farwynd of Sealskin point, the Farwynds of the Lonely Light are a seclusive and mysterious House. There tales abound the Iron Islands that the men of Lonely Light are skinchangers and can take the form of seals, sea lions, walruses and spotted whales. This of course is nonsense, even if they are a bit queer so to say. Their lands are the island of Lonely Light and the thirteen smaller rocks clustered around it, this archipelago lies eight days sail northwest of Great Wyk and deep into the Sunset Sea. These islands are the last bastion of land in the west before the world turns into the endless blue of the Sunset Sea, at least so do the maesters claim.

    King Balon II Farwynd

Balon Farwynd, second of his name, King of the Lonely Light and Lord of the Sunset
    Age: 56
    Traits: +3 Naval Battles
    +3 Survival
    +3 Wealth
    +3 Capture

Bio: The patriarch of the Farwynds of Lonely House was a mighty sailor and raider back in his day, he reaved the coast of Westeros from North to South and claims to have ventured even further beyond into Essos. During this time he furnished his keep with foreign furniture, filled his mines with foreign thralls and filled his bed with foreign women. When Balon reached his late thirties however he started to suffer from a great pain in his back and despite the best efforts of every healer in Lonely Light and Drowned Priests from all the Isles he could not be healed. As his pain grew so did his fury at this condition and his overall bad mood as an example of such rage he ordered slain every healer and priest who failed him aswell as many others who had angered him. Eventually as a last resort he brought a captured Maester from the Greenlands and command him to heal him or die, the Westerosii medical skills worked and Balon was cured from the pain, as long as he did not walk too much or do any tiring activities.

King Balon has sired many children but only one of them by his true wife, his own cousin Asha Farwynd, a boy named Torreg Farwynd. He holds his true wife no particulary warm feelings and neither does he love his son too much for that matter although he shows great affection to his younger daughters and some of his salt wives. Balon has no regard for religious men, not ever since a thousand holy baths in salt water could not cure his back pain and actually exiled his third son, Harras, who was a Drowned Man for angering him with his holy nagging. The King of the Lonely Light gives only passing thoughts to what others think or call him and so long as he controls his homeland, which he has been doing with renewed care and devotion since he was forced to stop raiding, Balon is a happy man.

    Torreg Farwynd

    Torreg Farwynd, raider and madman.
    Age: 32
    Traits: +2 Duel
    +3 Pillager
    +3 Pathfinder

Bio: Some say the men of the Lonely Light are skinchangers and they could not be more wrong however little can be said to dispute the fact that prolonged isolation at the edge of the world has made them odd. This goes double for Torreg Farwynd, the only true son of King Balon, his heir and a completely unhinged soul. Ever since he was a little boy Torreg loved exploring and adventuring, one time he went missing for nine days and was later found living in a rock among the seals and sea lions. However, no one expected that as soon as he was a grown man he would gather a crew and venture off to explore and raid not the East as was common in that time but the West. His mother pleaded with him not to go and all the experienced fishermen told him there was naught there but an endless ocean. Still Torreg ventured forth, in a single longship with two dozen crazy men as crew.

As expected he vanished and no one heard about Torreg Farwynd for the better part of a decade until one day a raiding party that had gone south to attack the Reach and the Westerlands returned with a thin and crazy eyed young man, Torreg himself. Not one person in Lonely Light believed in his stories of marvellous and rich lands to the West where every man was King and every woman was Queen but nobody had any idea how he appeared in the West coast of Westeros either. Any joy in his return vanished quickly as he reminded everyone why they had been glad he left in the first place. Torreg took pleasure in duels and laying with woman, even if they be married to another raider and delighted when both of those happened to go together. Despite his constant annoying of his Kingly father his skills as a raider and sailor awarded him the command of the Farwynd ships, since Balon could no longer raid due to his health problems. That is, as long as he kept his activities to lands his father knew existed.
"We all know whatmy brother would do. Robert would gallop up to the gates of Winterfell alone, break them with his warhammer, and ride through the rubble to slay Roose Bolton with his left hand and the Bastard with his right. I am not Robert. But we will march, and we will free Winterfell … or die in the attempt."

    House Drumm of Old Wyk

The Drumms of Old Wyk are a proud, ancient family among the Ironborn. For generations, the Dumms have dwelled in Old Wyk as the undisputed kings and masters of the island. It is on Old Wyk that the Grey King ruled; he who took a mermaid for his wife and ruled over islands and ocean for a thousand years from the Seastone Chair. It was on Old Wyk that the Grey King slew Nagga, the great sea dragon, and built the hall where the High Kings of the islands would be chosen thereafter, among the decayed remains of that ancient monster. However, despite the proud history among the island and its sacred tradition among the Ironborn, it is barren and poor; nothing more than a rocky outcrop in the ocean. This has driven the Drumms to look to the seas as their source of wealth, raiding deep into the Westerlands and Riverlands.

    House Drumm of Old Wyk

Dagon Drumm, King of Old Wyk
    42 years of age

Also known as bastard, saltborn, kinslayer, and the godless, Dagon is a man of fearsome reputation - one that is well earned. The offspring of King Regnar Drumm and one of his numerous salt wives, Dagon was always in conflict with his trueborn brothers for the right to rule in Old Wyk, a conflict he eventually prevailed in after cutting down his last remaining brother in single combat. Callous and ruthless, Dagon does hold ancient laws and traditions close to him but ultimately believes that only the strong survive and rule in the world. This is a philosophy he adheres to in all he does - especially the frequent raids that he conducts down the western coast of Westeros, capturing salt wives and plunder. Although undoubtedly seen as cruel and brutish to many, Dagon is not overly ambitious, and would prefer to retain his current way of life rather than seek to rise up to kingship over the Ironborn. He is loath to go to war with fellow islanders unless provoked, although when provoked, he is a fearsome foe indeed, pillaging and slaughtering with reckless abandon. Some whisper that his brutal rage is a curse from the Storm God for slaying his brother, and it is said that his family would not even be spared should the red mist take him, such is his lust for violence.

Dagon is not a comely man, by any means. A monumental figure standing well over six foot, the Ironborn lord's body is decorated with scars, souvenirs of past quarrels with his foes. He keeps his head clean shaven, but often sports a bristling black beard.

    Traits:
+3 duels - Dagon is a skilled fighter, possessing a natural talent for swordplay that was honed by ventures into the disputed lands.
+3 naval battles - Dagon has lived on a ship all his life, and knows ships like the back of his hand.
+2 survival - What is dead may never die.
+2 land battles - Dagon has fought many enemies, all with different tricks and tactics.

    Relations:
Euron Drumm, known as 'Bonehand'. Recognized for his melancholy moods and cynical japes. Son of Lord Dagon, aged 25.
Dalton Drumm, known for his quiet, introvert personality. One of the only Drumms that can read. Son of Lord Dagon, aged 23.
Harwyn Drumm, tall, fair, and handsome, yet awkward, still in his youth. Son of Lord Dagon, aged 15.
Alysanne Stonetree, graceful and quiet. Wife of Lord Dagon, aged 42.

Theon Drumm, 'The Skeleton'. Old and thin, with fifteen salt sons. Great uncle of Lord Dagon, aged 77.
Harren Drumm, tall, dark, and lean, and a fearsome warrior. Grandson of Theon Drumm, aged 29.

    Traits (9):
    +2 Survival
    +2 Wealth
    +2 Duel
    +1 Assassination
    +1 Charisma
    +1 Logistician

    BIOGRAPHY:

Harmund Hoare was a man worth his reputation, an avid raider who plundered and sacked from Fair Isle to Braavos. However, he followed those odd customs usual on his line and married outside the islands; profiting from the eternal rivalry between Lannisters (watchful and weary of Ironborn raids) and the powerful Reynes Harmund married the resourceful Lady Ellyn Reyne. The Westerlander didn’t precisely balk at the prospect of becoming Queen, but the reality of the Islands was harder than expected. The weather, the customs, the very nature of the Islands was sickening for the Reyne Lady, not used to such a place. Still, she endured and rose again, harder and stronger, slowly controlling her husband, who beyond raiding was capable of little else. And finally, she reigned supreme, using the wedlock as a weapon against her husband and Harmund became her servant and she ruled over Orkmont in all but name. A son and three daughters were born from their marriage.

Harmund loved coin, and coin above everything else, for the Hoare delighted on the pleasure of hoarding wealth and his greed only became larger with age, his thirst of gold and riches, unquenchable. Slowly, he became more and more suspicious of his retainers and followers, his paranoia turning him unstable, violent and cruel. Less and less he shared with his retainers and ended hoarding all the fruit of his endless raids, alienating his followers and kin. The hatred towards the King grew considerably and he finally was murdered on his bedchamber, while Reyne could scape unscathed through the sewer. Soon, she proclaimed her young son King of Orkmont and her own regency. The conspirators were some disgruntled nobles and three cousins of Harmund Hoare.
Thinking that a feeble woman could not harm them the murderers boasted much about their crime and even returned to the Hoare’s court. However, they did not count on Harras Hoare.

Harras was a silent boy, dark in mood and temper. Always watchful and prudent he was a hard-working kid, who learned faster than most. Still, he was a true son of the Black Line and his ways were authoritarian, ruthless and commanding. The murder of his father only darkened his temper and he deeply resented the actions of the conspirators, who feasted on his very halls, for they were popular among the retainers of the late Harmund and Reyne could not harm them directly. But, one day Harras invited his father’s cousins to feast and dine with him and once their loyal warriors were as drunk as their masters, unsuspecting any foul treason, the swords were unsheathed and after a mockery of a trial the three cousins were swiftly executed. Harras gifted their heads to his mother. Reyne in turn placed the heads over the ramparts of Orkmont as their belongings were forfeited. Every sympathizer and follower of the accursed traitors was put to the sword.

His rule secure, Harras became the Hoare, the Lord Reaper of Orkmont, head of the Black Line. Ambitious, lacking compassion and cold he became an efficient ruler who controlled his small realm with an iron fist, effortlessly. Failure is punished gravely and offenses, most harshly. Calculating and prudent he considers raiding to be but a fruitless effort, when Ironborn should focus on seizing and occupying new lands instead; richer and more fertile than the rocky hills of the Islands. His wild ambitions drive him further and further into a path of domination and expansion. However, he doesn’t waste his strength and while the dockyards of Orkmont are always busy the ships of Hoare are rarely glanced in the petty wars and squabbles involving the many war-mongering kings of the Iron Islands. The ominously black sails and hulls under Harras’ personal command do not seek fruitless glory in insignificant conflicts, still he leaves his vassals room to do as they please, for it’s in the nature of an Ironborn to raid, pillage and kill. Still, Harras waits patiently and amasses his strength, wealth and manpower.
Ellyn Reyne remained by his side, ever watchful, domineering, imposing and ruthless. She personally chose his son’s wife, Lady Asha Hoare, his eldest cousin, a potential claimant and menace to his rule had she married outside the family, for she was the last remnant of a cadet line.

    BIOGRAPHY
The latest chieftain of the Orkwood, Norne Orkwood, son of Hafren Orkwood and Sussanna Stonetree, came to lord over the Nettlebank and the Orkwood by way of the finger dance. Norne had been out at sea with his young sister Vursa and their cousins the Stonetrees, when his father Hafren succumbed to greyscale, which had been plaguing him for years.

Hafren had also taken the chieftainship from siblings, during the days of treachery between the Reyne Queen over Orkwatch and the Hoare clansmen. Hafren, a youngest son whose older brothers sided with the Hoare cousins, approached Orkwatch and swore fealty to the queen and her son, Harras Hoare, who would become known as the the Half-Andal. When it was all over, Hafren was the new chieftain of the Orkwood, and his brothers were all put to the sword.

Now, Norne's older half-brother, Jürgen, born of a Dornish salt-wife, set himself up as the new Chieftain of the Orkwood, his Dornish mother likely having much to do with influencing much of the household to accept it. When Norne returned with his sister to the shores of Orkmont, sailing into the small cove beneath Nettlebank, he was met with a volley of archers' arrows, darting through the sails and into the deck, killing three of the reavers.

They took refuge with the Hoares at Orkwatch, who without hesitation agreed that the situation was an unlawful theft and usurpation - likely to gain favor with their new vassal, Norne. But the Stonetrees advised their cousin other than to let Hoare swords breach the walls of Nettlebank, and suggested he find another way, to keep their household in tact.

Jürgen Orkwood awoke to yelling at the dawn of the Grey King's Day. Norne sat upon a horse beyond the gate's small bridge, with a small band of warriors behind him, including Vursa. A challenge to the finger dance was put out. At the end of it, Jürgen lie on the bridge, his guzzle bleeding out through the wooden boards and into the fjord below, while Norne stood grasping his left hand with a grimace, having lost the middle and little fingers. The Dornish salt-wife, named Liane, became Norne's first salf-wife, though she never saw the outside of Nettlebank from that day forward, and was buried some months later.

    House Saltcliffe

    of Saltcliffe

House Saltcliffe are the Petty Kings of the Island of Saltcliffe. Their seat is a keep named like the island, Saltcliffe. House Sunderly of Saltford is the only noble house that swears fealty to them.

    King Qarl Saltcliffe,
    the Unloving
47 years old as of year 0.

Qarl is the firstborn of Harran Saltcliffe, who also had two more children younger than him: Urron, his brother, and Sigrid, his sister.
He was raised alongside his father and accompanied him to battle. As a youngster he learnt the ways of the sea. He showed prowess with the sword and the axe and soon he was commanding his own longboat.
When his father perished in a raid, nothing unusual in the Iron Isles, Qarl moved swiftly and secured the Saltcliffe crown for himself. His brother Urron was enraged at this and left the island. He would return five years later, after being recalled by Qarl. Urron would become his most important commander, even if the ruler of Saltcliffe didn't fully trust him.
He married a woman of House X. Qarl never loved her, but at first their relationship was good. But the years passed and the couple didn't produce a male heir, only daughters. This helped to deteriorate the marriage and nowadays Qarl barely stands her sight.
His harshness towards his wife and his daughters is the reason he became known as the Unloving.

    Name: Daegon the Iron Bastard
    Age: 36
    Marital Status: Unmarried
    Children: None
Traits (9 points): +3 Naval Battles, +3 Survival, +3 Duel

Daegon is the bastard of an unknown Ironborn father. He claims to be from the island of Orkmont which makes many wonder who his parentage truly is. Despite his rather unknown origins, Daegon made a name for himself as a raider and a reaver for hire. The money earned from joining a reaving crew ensured he had a roof over his head, food in his stomach and mead in his veins. He was given the nickname 'the Iron Bastard' due to being an Ironborn bastard of Orkmont. Currently, Daegon resides on the island of Pyke, looking for work where he can.
